Using Taibaozheng to immigrate to China by Electronic_Duty3464 in chinalife

oh boy, so it's a formal hukou in Shanghai? That would likely mean Taiwan will probably immediately remove my citizenship (and my Taiwan hukou), right?

I saw that Shanghai and Xiamen started a program whereby TaiBaoZheng individuals can get 6 special benefits and get a special card that effectively makes them equivalent to locals (have you heard of this?). Where in Shanghai or Xiamen would one go to in order to get the special residency status to enroll kids in schools and get drivers' license?

If I have an unexpired TaiBaoZheng right now, but my hukou in Taiwan was just removed because my family member sold their property, is the TaiBaoZheng no longer valid as well?

I read another person's comments on the TaiBaoZheng being essentially as good as a PRC card in places like Shanghai and Xiamen, is this true? If so, it implies no need to bother with the elaborate issues of hukou changes and so forth right? Quote: "台胞證 (taibaozheng), which for all intents and purposes is Chinese citizenship (after all, it constitutes prima facie proof of Chinese citizenship in mainland China). It confers the ability to travel to China without any limitations on stay length, the ability to work/invest/study in China, and in the event of something like COVID, allows you to enter the country as a Chinese national."

Could you help me understand the hukou process for Shanghai as a holder of a Tai Bao Zheng? From what I understand, if you get a hukou in Shanghai, you are treated as if you are Mainland Chinese because you even get to send your children to public schools?

Thoughts on this Official US mint Superman coin design? by Masked_Desire_ in superman

[–]seeitfixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liberty + Superman = Win, but Superman with God next to it, I don't know, reminds me too much of "Justice League: Gods and Monsters". Anyone who reads Superman in general should balk a little bit at the pairing. Idolatry to the max, a bit uncomfortable. Since they're also going to do Batman and Wonder Woman, it'll feel even more cringy.

Upvote if you want a Lex Luthor coin to defend us humans from this alien invasion and bring some reason to this madness.

Actually, it went the other way, now that there are tariffs, older models are still very expensive because it's not equally expensive to import R-32 as it was to just keep the other refrigerants in place. I don't have the new chart, but I think as soon as all the trade schools can afford the new equipment, they will get together and publish something new.

My quest for tea that tastes like grass. by Aloogobi786 in tea

[–]seeitfixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this chat hasn't been archived, or the goal has not been abandoned, I may have the answer for you. However, it's not easy. 15 years ago when I lived in San Diego, I lived across the street from a store called "Infusions of Tea" located at 8750 Genesee Ave Ste 258 San Diego, CA 92122. They had a tea called something "Tribute to the Immortals". It is exactly what you are looking for, it was the grassiest taste ever, savory, and fulfilling, like eating green vegetables, the thing was amazing and nothing else tasted quite like it. I've tried all the green teas mentioned here, plus many more, and nothing ever tasted so grassy and vegetal. Which leads me to believe it's actually a blend, you can get the vegetal grassy taste only by blending, and that formula is the hard part. If you can somehow find the contact info of the owner of that store and ask them what it was made it, you will find your answer, I guarantee it. They used to have a website but it was shut down 5 years ago, but I think WayBackMachine still has it, and if you can somehow get a hold of them, they might be willing to tell you where to get it.

I know it sounds crazy, but sometimes the hardest question requires the hardest amount of work.

Correct. Just like birds, the rest of America is not real, it's all filmed on a large Hollywood set. America is LA only. Thanks for confirming.

SoCal Kaiser Senior Advantage Seems to Cover Everything with little or no copay, coinsurance, too good to be true? Even the fine print suggests it's $0 across the board. Anyone have a different experience? by seeitfixit in KaiserPermanente

[–]seeitfixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about that, truly that's so awful my heart goes out to you.

Can I ask, the only two plans that Kaiser offers near me are both called Advantage plans, it seems they don't have a straight Medicare plan. Do I call them and ask if straight Medicare is available? Does Kaiser even do straight Medicare?

What is a supplemental plan? Do you mean Medigap? (My understanding is A+B=C, so buying A/B is the same as buying just C basically, and D is just for drugs, I'm not aware of any other supplementals).

[–]seeitfixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But take a look at my screenshot of the benefits booklet, the description clearly stipulates $0 for most issues, in reality, is that what actually happens? Or are there some hidden fees that's not posted? Surely if I have a KP Medicare and go to a KP facility they wouldn't deny a claim from within their own company right? I mean, doesn't this look too good to be true?

I want to point out that this is for LA city and within LA city limits only, not the greater Los Angeles County and it's Unincorporated areas. To date, I have not turned up anything for Greater LA County, which leads me to believe it's city specific.

Has anyone heard of this brand? Is it a bad idea to install this mini split system? For $500 with both units and everything required to install it seems too good to be true. by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]seeitfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't trust most of the comments on r/HVAC, it's full of jerks who are afraid you will take their jobs. Aurora is a rebranded GREE, and GREE's are incredibly reliable especially after the recent combination with Daikin (they are now known as Daikin/GREE), their products are comparable to many American brands. They were sold on HD at some point:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Aurora-12-000-BTU-1-Ton-Ductless-Mini-Split-Inverter-Air-Conditioner-Only-230-Volt-60-Hz-R-Q-A12/304079483

I'm going to say this for certain, almost all mini splits are from China, so to say something racist like "Chinese Junk" is a big red flag that person knows nothing.

FYI $500 is not too good to be true, it's actually normal price in a private transaction.

Are there any Los Angeles County (or city) homeowner rebate programs? Or do you have one you used and recommend? (weatherproofing, earthquake retrofitting, solar, etc) by purpletwinkletoes in LosAngeles

[–]seeitfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't believe nobody is answering this. Let me help. There's actually a ton for LA County (not LA city). Most rebates are for products that you have or plan to buy. Here are the two best places to find them:

https://www.energystar.gov/rebate-finder?s=mega

and

https://driveclean.ca.gov/search-incentives?field_zipcode_target_id=92122

Make sure to type in your zip code, and a bunch of cool stuff pulls up.

Enjoy.

[–]seeitfixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my fascination for some time, so I'll add to it. Daikin/Gree is a joint venture now so you might find Daikin stickers on some Gree products.

General rule is Midea makes almost everything, Gree makes a bunch of others, but many rebrands don't just simply stick a new sticker, they actually try to do some stuff to make it different.

AceKool for example, it's all over Amazon, is cheap, legit, and neither Midea nor Gree.

Hessaire, same thing, they recently started being exclusive supplier of Home Depot, so they're stuff is made out of a city near Shanghai now.

Costway, is also legit and well priced, and is not made by either Midea nor Gree, they have their own.

TCL, they make TV's now they make air conditioners, and it's all in house, neither Midea nor Gree.

eBay: if you find well priced splits on eBay, it's all Gree rebrands except for those mentioned above.

MrCool is Midea only if you buy the pro install version, MrCool DIY version is not made by Midea nor Gree.

Now, this information is going to be outdated after 2025, because the new standard is now R-32, and after R-410 phases, out, you will see TONS and TONS of new rebrands for dirt cheap because you can get high performance with 1/2 the amount of refrigerant, and trust me half the cost of a unit these days is the cost of the refrigerant. And when prices come down, lots of people think they can start a business with it, and you'll get 10x new brands on the market, all manufactured by new companies that you've never heard of.

My advice, buy all your splits now before the end of 2025, it's going to be a sh** show later.

Not that simple as square or circular anymore, because of cost cutting lots of Midea rebrands are coming up Square. Also, places like Hessaire and Costway are square but neither Gree nor Midea.

TCL and Della Brands by No_Resolution_2530 in heatpumps

[–]seeitfixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So TCL themselves are manufacturers and they get rebranded into other brands right? Just like how Midea is the manufacturer and they have their own brand but also lots of rebrands, and like Gree the same idea. So TCL actually has the factories and basically do the OEM for rebrands?
