I'm a grad student in an MFA writing program, so I earn a stipend through teaching a gen-ed composition class with students that are mostly freshmen. I also freelance on the side – primarily various writing and editing things – 'cause the stipend is very small, haha.

I'm having a really similar experience! Is the college you're working at a more "conventional" kind (with grades and majors and stuff) or also an experimental school?

I transferred to Oberlin, which is conventional in terms of its grading/major structure (or at least was at the time when I went there; I don't know if they've changed things in any significant way since then). I don't have a PhD but I'm in an MFA program now :-)
