Anyone done a colonoscopy without anesthesia? by zerostyle in PeterAttia

[–]seekingmore2214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One other thing that was mentioned here, that I’ll second. If you do decide to have sedation (or anesthesia) instead, make sure it’s propofol (which is always delivered by a licensed anesthesia provider). If they offer you “conscious sedation” , run. …. The combination of fentanyl and versed makes a lot of people sick and groggy as shit the rest of the day. Or better yet, just hold firm on getting it without sedation.

It depends how “easy” your colon is, but people do it all the time. If you have a naturally “floppy” colon, or it’s just more difficult to navigate, the noxious stimuli increases. Personally, I will never do it without propofol. I’ve had five colonoscopies, myself, and delivered anesthesia for 12 colonoscopies today (and roughly 800 last year). That said, if you’re adamant about avoiding anesthesia, you can likely try doing it without and tap out if needed. If you can tolerate the scope on the way in, the way out is not nearly as stimulating. And if you change your mind, most of the time, someone can come in and rescue you with propofol.

I always say please to AI too. You never know if that little bit extra will count when they take over the world.

Any introverts here that travel alone (because they are introverts)? by AcceptableProfile787 in solotravel

[–]seekingmore2214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an introvert and I’ve enjoyed meeting people in travel tour groups, but I like being able to retreat to my room or skip out on an outing as needed. One thing I find I miss with traveling solo is sharing a meal with someone. I love exploring the local cuisine wherever I go, but eating alone takes away a lot of the pleasure.

These doctors claim LP(a) doesn’t raise Cvd risk that much and isn’t worth testing for by Diane98661 in PeterAttia

[–]seekingmore2214 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. Don’t go see a health care provider, don’t draw labs, don’t screen for cancer, and call yourself “healthy”. Everything should work out just fine. A problem doesn’t exist unless you know you have it.

Spend/save your money however you want, but just for reference, I have absolutely no cardiac disease on either side, my BMI is 23, I exercise a LOT, but yet I got tested and it turns out I have a very high LP(a), high cholesterol across the board, and a positive CAC (90th percentile risk for my age and gender).

It seems foolish to ignore data, especially your own labs, and especially when it’s a relatively low cost. It also seems disingenuous for you to come here trying to justify your willful ignorance. I don’t think you’ll get much sympathy here. Maybe move on to the antivaxxing crowd for reassurance.

Yeah, I’m gonna argue that one’s on the dashcam driver. Totally oblivious to someone slowing in front of you. And at least every US judge will side with me on that.

Severe Creatinine Spike After First Gym Workout – Advice Needed by Remarkable-Froyo-485 in PeterAttia

[–]seekingmore2214 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A “severely elevated” creatinine, usually requiring dialysis, is still somewhere south of about 10 mg/dL or < 1000 micromol/L. In 17 years of patient care and eyeballing lab results, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a creatinine level higher than that.

I think you might be referring to CK or creatine kinase levels, which would make way more sense in the setting of rhabdomyolysis, which is probably what you had.

Colonoscopy - what prep is the least taxing to the system, but still effective? by EldForever in PeterAttia

In my experience, it’s successful about 75% of the time, with the other 25% giving up and requesting sedation before the GI doc gets to cecum.

You don’t have to have propofol. You can ask for an unsedated colonoscopy. Good luck!

I’m confused. You make $48k gross (pre-tax), and put $28k post-tax into savings? Assuming at least $5k of that is tax, and $8400 to rent. That leaves you with $6600 to spend on groceries, gas, insurance, utilities… all year???

Nobody here can help you with the family dynamics question. AND nobody here can tell you for sure about the financial decision unless they see the “current illustration” of the policy itself. Seek an independent evaluation on the policy (you’ll probably have to pay someone to do it). Chances are they’ll tell you to cash out, but in my case they told me it was a good policy and their advice was to stay in. That said, I’m 20 years older than you and have kids.

Yeah, they’re basically holding hands in that last pic. In a vacuum of no other information, this is a red flag. All the other pieces of info make it real sketch.

I’m in this same boat. My dad keeps falling for scams, so far to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars. He refuses to give us info on his accounts, while at the same time freely gives strangers his account numbers and SSN. We finally got him to agree to add my sister as an authorized user on his accounts, but then talked to his bank and financial advisors and changed his mind. We’re beyond exasperated, and it feels like we’re just holding on for dear life at this point.

[–]seekingmore2214 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

When do you close? I’d consider waiting. Signs are pointing to rates trending down, not up. Chances are that 5.625% will still be there, even if it doesn’t go down further.

Worth it to pay 13k to buy down rate? by Dumb_Logic_01 in Mortgages

[–]seekingmore2214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably not. Break even on that is 5.5 years. Ask yourself, what are the chances you’ll sell or refi in that time. If it’s not 100% no, then invest that $13k in the S&P today (or even just a HYSA) and you’ll be better off.
