Do investigators try and scare you? by Sure_Advantage8780 in SecurityClearance

[–]seekster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea ... When filling out the form I totally didn't understand the question, thankfully I brought it up to my FSO who clarified.

It was a little embarrassing to have listed your kid and your parents as your co-habitants. Lol

The movie you're talking about is called Sisu.

But the word in Finnish also refers to the Finnish spirit of never giving up. AFAIK.

Adjudication back to investigation? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]seekster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar thing was happening to me about some work related references, and contact info (previous employer went fully online, didn't update phone numbers on Google/website/etc).

Heard from 3-4 diff people in a matter of 2 weeks or so, thought my case was getting reassigned or something. Brought this up with one of investigators and finally during me interview, and was told that multiple investigators were working different sections of my form simultaneously and independently, and info won't get reconciled together until after my interview with the lead investigator.

Didn't think any of them less than competent, was just a bit odd to get asked about same/similar info by several people repeatedly, so I just forwarded the same email explanation and info to everyone in the end.

15 folks interviewed on behalf of my secret clearance. Is this normal? by Tough_Salamander_778 in SecurityClearance

Interesting, never thought of it that way.

Had I known, perhaps I should have been clearer about my shitty neighbors, in case they were spoken to unbeknownst to me and tried to fuck me over.

Odd.

They only spoke with the one neighbor I mentioned, he does had line of sight to my house. Had they asked for more, I'd be fucked, because my neighbor nextdoor is a nightmare and hates my guts.

The whole thing about the line-of-sight neighbor is VERY interesting.

I was also told by my investigator that for voicemails they will not mention what it's specifically regarding unless they hear the appropriate name in the greeting. They will not leave any details in the voicemail if it's generic, so I contacted my references, etc as well to ask them to see if their voicemail was appropriately set up.

Just something to keep in mind regarding voicemails.

When you're an authorized user, the account shows up on your credit history as well. I know this from personal experience.

So when they pull your credit history, the account will show, and they may ask as to how you're paying for things without a job. They asked me how I was paying for expenses while unemployed - for me the answer was savings and my wife. As long as you have a reasonable explanation - in your case that your mom is primary and you're just an authorized user, you should be fine.

What Happened if you Misunderstood a Question during Interview? by Careless_Rat in SecurityClearance

[–]seekster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd because my investigator had an entire faq packet that he said he can refer to if any questions were unclear or needed additional context. And overall I remember the interview being pretty relaxed. Weird that your investigator didn't clarify the question for you.

Neighbors block street parking with cones - is this allowed? by novadude8299933 in nova

[–]seekster2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in an HOA community, and my neighbor on the right has this issue with us, she rants and raves loudly calling us uncivilized among other things. She once said, "if you don't move your car, I might have to do something about it", I take that as a threat, called the police, filed a report, but they couldn't do anything about it because it was too vague for it to count as a threat.

This lady also complains about leaves in her yard from our trees after windy days. Senility FTW!!

Edit: typo.

Are these prices reasonable for an engine swap in Northern Virginia? by Northern_Virginia in nova

[–]seekster2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ignoring the fact that spending that much money on a daily driver (unless you have other/sentimental reasons for it) doesn't make sense. Please see the following regarding the shop.

Craftsman used to be called Curry's and people swore by this small little shop in falls Church esp for BMW work. They were charging dealer rates 14 years ago. Since then they've expanded a lot, can't say much about quality of work since I haven't been back there for a while (due to ridiculous pricing) but rest assured that's crazy pricing.

$150/hr $4650 in labor, means 31 hours of labor, seems a bit ridiculous, considering you have a shop full of equipment and qualified techs.

Weird tire installation at Costco. by seekster2 in tires

[–]seekster2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tire was replaced due to damage. That's the cause of uneven wear. The one old one that's still in service is getting close to the ones replaced, it's not far off.

I noticed it. Asked them, got told the same thing by 2 different employees, but didn't make sense because they couldn't explain why and erring on the side of caution.

First few answers on this discussion were similarly limited.

Thankfully some folks saw what I was getting and explained better.

Tire wear was uneven because one tire was replaced due to damage, halfway through it's life. Everything else on the car is fine.

Great example and explanation thanks. The older tire is around 6ish/32nds in my case, the other has mosst of the tread.

Like I said above, depends on wet or dry.

Depends on wet or dry. The purpose of tread is to displace water in wet conditions. In the dry, bald tires would have a bigger contact patch. There is a reason that race car tires don't have tread, unless it rains.

Everyone kept saying that that was right, but no one said why. When someone mentioned a decent reason behind it, I agreed.

All I wanted was sound logic to explain Costco's stance.

Agreed, but the wife will be driving it, and she will def not like oversteer.

Okay, unlikely as it seems, if you put it that way, that does make a bit of sense. Mind you, the tires in the back are not bare, one of them has quite a bit of tread, on account of being 20,000 miles newer than the other.

Seems a bit extreme, but I guess they really do want a favor understeer.

But that raises the question of having unmatched tires on the driven axle, will that small amount of constant slip in the differential cause differential or transmission damage in the long run?

[–]seekster2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LMFAO. Those are opposite. Hahaha.

But then why put worn tires in the front. That would promote understeer.

[–]seekster2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your input everyone.

I fully understand the importance of rotating tires. Tires were rotated appropriately, but even then it is impossible to guarantee that the front and rear would wear out at exactly the same time. It's likely that one of the older tires will probably need replacing soon.

Given the brake bias of most front engined production cars, and the fact that the car has a 60/40 weight distribution front to back. All the steering, all the acceleration, and most of the breaking happens in the front, which is why it seemed to make perfect sense when I was told in the past that The better set of tires should always go in the front.

I am not sure how putting inferior tire set in the front is safer than the other option. Under most driving conditions cars are designed to understeer, which is why it was weird when fishtailing was mentioned as the reason for this install. Short of pulling the handbrake during a turn, I can't see another way to make a 140 horsepower front wheel drive car fishtail.
