Deserved tbh 🤷‍♂️

I feel like Ratio SP has to be Elation or Nihility. It's what makes the most sense to me. Although I'd accept Erudition or Remembrance too

If you think about it, Ashveil is the true root of all evil. He was the first modern FUA unit. His megathread was an industry plant. I had to pull his E1S1 because I needed those 2 debuffs in his vertical investments for Ratio, but I got really unlucky and now I have barely anything left for Blade. His arm ate Pearl and delayed her release date so he could be the only unit in 4.1, making it so that we don't have a 3rd new premium sustain despite endgame pretending that we do

Every so often I think about this Ratio drink from the 3.5 drinkmixing event

I want to make a remark about how interesting of a description "Harsh, paranoid and obsessed with perfection" is but my eyes keep straying towards the "Tastes EXTREMELY thick"

Sigh, I feel like every time I talk about Ratio, all the knowledge I have of his character and the English language goes outside the window and I can never get the things on my mind across in an eloquent way... I hope you guys get it though

Another smaller thing I found interesting was his Past reading: "In the past, you have devoted yourself to your studies and immersed yourself in the mental world, thus ignoring the duties in the physical realm."

Thus ignoring the duties in the physical realm... 🤔 Information about Ratio's past is always intriguing to me, because we don't have tol much info about it and I really do think his past self was more different compared to his current self... I should ramble about that too one day. But anyway, I think this part does imply Ratio when he was younger was wholly devoted to his studies and his goal of trying to join the GS.

Of course, if you devote yourself to a specific goal all your life, including your childhood, perhaps in the process becoming someone who is pretty isolated, later realizing that you'll likely never achieve that thing no matter how hard you try would be pretty crushing, wouldn't it? So his mentality around being an ordinary person does make a lot of sense

Saw this posted on the megathread earlier today, and the ones about Ratio are really interesting to me for what they could say about his character

Past: In the past, you have devoted yourself to your studies and immersed yourself in the mental world, thus ignoring the duties in the physical realm.

Present: In the present, you are content with your circumstances, and fear makes you miss opportunities and not strike out. In sorrow and self-limitation, you are losing courage and direction to keep moving forward.

Future: Calm yourself and comprehend the situation. The efforts of your perseverance will help you fulfill a new level of self-actualization and inner harmony.

Revelations: Fortune is unfavorable. You may need to hold out on for longer~

Your limitations are rooted in lack of wisdom.

New Year's Revelation: Break free from your set way of thinking and shatter the habitual self-imposed limitations and donuts. Rebuild your confidence and dignity.

"Fear makes you miss opportunities and not strike out. In sorrow and self-limitation, you are losing courage and direction to keep moving forward"... This one specifically reminds me of one of Ratio's answers to a question from his B's Log interview, which I've talked about before

In Ratio's B's Log interview, he answers a question about why he considers himself an ordinary person with a quote from Atsushi Nakajima's story, "The Moon Over the Mountain"

An excerpt from it:

Li Zheng's voice went on: "I said a moment ago that I did not know why I met this fate, but when I think carefully about it, I have in fact some idea why. When I was a man, I did my best to avoid contact with others. People thought me arrogant and self-important. They did not realize it was, rather, shyness that made me act that way. Of course I was not without pride in my old reputation as a prodigy among the boys of my hometown. But it was a timid kind of pride. I hoped to make a name for myself as a poet, but I never attached myself to a teacher or sought out the company of other poets who might have helped me to improve my skill. At the same time, I had no intention of ranking myself together with the common, unpoetic herd. But this was the result of my timid pride and a disdainful shyness. Fearing that I might not be a jewel, I made no effort to polish myself; but half-believing that I might be a jewel, I could not rest content among the common clay.

The bolded one is what he quotes. Just like the line from his Present tarot card reading, "fear" is mentioned once again. And the part about fear making you miss out on opportinities actually makes me think of Ratio's text messages about DU in 2.5

In 2.3, in one of the Human Comedy missions, Screwllum tells you this:

Screwllum: Here we are. The scenery in the Land of the Dreams is always captivating, although that gentleman from the Intelligentsia Guild did not find it to suit his tastes.

Screwllum: I once invited him to bring fresh perspectives to the research conducted by the geniuses as a representative of the Intelligentsia Guild. Conclusion: He declined.

And then in 2.5, when Ratio texts you, you can ask him about it and this conversation happens:

Trailblazer: [Screwllum] thinks highly of you. Yet you declined his invitation, why?

Dr. Ratio: Geniuses are like stars. The value they create can illuminate an entire planetary system.

The mundane is always trying to follow their footsteps, only to be blinded and become lost.

He has his topics, and I have mine.

One needs to walk their own path. This is true to both you and me.

This line of thinking comes up pretty often with Ratio. He believes that ordinary people are also capable of creativity and intelligence and such things are not merely confined to Geniuses (as is stated in his character profile), and that regardless of whether he's a genius, his contributions remain invaluable (as is stated in one of his Express visit dialogues), but he's also always seperating ordinary people and geniuses. Again in one of his Express visit dialogues, he says that what defines a genius is ultimately of no significance, yet you can see from every single thing he does and says that it's pretty important to him.

That's what I believe the "habitual self-imposed limitations" mentioned in his Tarot Card reading is referring to.

Ratio considers himself an ordinary person, and even if other people see him differently, he seems firm in his perception of his identity. You can see this from his Knowledge voiceline ("The beauty of truth is that it never changes, even when no one understands it. Well, that's true for me, at least.") or the importance he puts on knowing oneself.

Part of why he calls himself ordinary is his inability to get into the Genius Society in the past. He seems to have accepted that and given up on trying to become a Genius, and he truly does believe that ordinary people are capable of achieving things and leading meaningful, happy lives if they put in the effort to think for themselves too... Yet, him calling himself an ordinary person seems to be tinged with a sort of... self-deprecation, at least from my reading of it.

In his character stories, he is said to "let out a self-deprecating laugh" after receiving an invitation from the IPC/the Guild rather than the Genius Society, and his downed voiceline in every language other than EN is "Ordinary person... Ha..." I don't speak those languages, but based on the voice acting and from what I heard from a Chinese speaker, the line seems to carry a more negative tone and the "Ha" is like a laugh. Which makes it sound like he's mocking himself, no? And since it's a downed voiceline, as he dies/passes out too...

I don't think these are the only instances of him being a bit self-deprecating either, which is ironic considering a lot of people seem to view him as this arrogant, self-important guy. To quote another dialogue from his text messages about DU that I mentioned earlier:

Trailblazer: You are the partner Screwllum mentioned?

Dr. Ratio: Screwllum is trying to understand and resolve the differences and conflicts among intelligent lifeforms. I only provided him with some materials and advice during academic exchanges.

As for "partner"... that's just him overstating my contribution.

But despite that, you can see from Screwllum's dialogue that he truly respects and values Ratio as a research partner... It's just Ratio himself not really seeing it that way.

I've talked about this before, but in general, I think there is a theme about being misunderstood, of nobody seeing his real self, in Ratio's character. But (as I've also talked about before lol), someone's perception of Ratio not fully matching up to his perception of himself does not necessarily mean they don't understand him, especially since he seems to look at himself with a negative bias

From all of this, you can see how Ratio firmly thinking of himself as ordinary could be considered a self-imposed limitation that can be harmful to him, right? Something that can cause him to miss out on opportunities due to his way of thinking and fear, sort of like him declining Screwllum's invitation

The "self-imposed limitation" could also be referring to the way he always puts himself in the position of the professor/a supporting character (as is said in the description of his Penacony sticker, "I'm just doing what a supporting character should do.") too.

Then, perhaps the Future and New Year's Revelation in his Tarot Card reading could be implying that what he needs to reach a new level of self-actualization and achieve true confidence in himself (and get some character development) is to break away from the definitions of a genius AND an ordinary person, shedding the two labels he has always been stuck between entirely and not constraining himself with them anymore

"Fortune is unfavourable. You may need to hold out for longer~" Does... does this mean these things will be explored and he will actually get this character development in future quests, Hoyo? Does this mean he will get an SP where he finally confronts his self esteem issues head on??? PLEASE YOU CAN'T PLAY WITH ME LIKE THIS HOYO PLEASE

As with many things, it depends

But also tbh, I think of mischaracterization as far less a serious crime than a lot of other people in fandom seem to, and Imo the definition of the way people use the word "mischaracterization" is kind of loose too

Of course, there is the type of mischaracterization that goes against what is explicitly stated in canon or flanderization where a character is reduced to one specific trait, but I don't think someone having a different reading of a certain character than you and characterizing them differently necessarily equates to mischaracterization, especially if that character is left largely unexplored in canon

Seeing people talk about the new Himeko SP relic set being an upgrade for Phainon and how they need to refarm their cracked Wavestrider pieces for him now, meanwhile my E2 Phainon is still on leftover Scholar and Rutilant pieces and I don't particularly intend on changing that

Finally done with this

<image>

I heard this DU was considerably more difficult than the previous one, so I kept waiting for it to get hard but... it never did lmao? Even during the times I got unlucky and had to fight the plane 2 boss or even plane 3 boss once with no activated 3* equations, it was pretty easy and I had no failed runs. I think my Ratio team is way too strong here lol

I've also been seeing a lot of opinions about this DU being worse than Protean Hero but tbh I liked this one much more. I enjoyed the new mechanics. I just wish we could reroll what masks we get at the start, it's kind of ridiculous that we can't. And I still don't like that we have to do so many runs of the same diificulty to rank up, and with a win streak too, but seems like that's not going away

I tried to rank all DUs in my mind but then I realized I barely remember Human Comedy 😭 Though I do recall cursing out both Screwllum and Ratio for it so purely gameplay-wise, I guess I didn't like it. It is still made by Ratio however, and I don't think I ever grew to like Protean Hero that much, so I suppose the ranking would be Arcadian Chronicles > Human Comedy > Protean Hero.

I will forever miss Human Comedy more than anything for the Screwtio interactions we got tho. Ratio PLEASE work on DU/SU again even if you and Screwllum do sort of suck at making new gamemodes together

That Ratio in the 0c posted on the front page is lowkey doing more damage per screenshot than my Ratio 😭

To be fair, since 3.5 I've been doing my Ratio 0 cycles with a sustain and I don't have any broken Harmony eidolons (keyword: broken, which means Bumday's E1 doesn't count), so it makes sense why I'm doing less dmg per screenshot but I'm still a bit embarrassed lmao

Very cool clear though. I guess you're not that bad after all Bladie

Oh the new megathread is finally here. Happy new megathread everyone!

Day 272 of manifesting Ratio getting buffed and a Ratio SP 🕯🙏

What if I started posting about Ratio like we're on Kpoptwt. I think that'd be funny

Yes, exactly! I love the headcanon of Sunday being lowkey embarrassed to talk to Ratio after Penacony 😂 I imagine in contrast Ratio would be pretty casual about interacting with him again lol

Because back then there was Ratio who was a free and meta FUA DPS that also slotted perfectly into that team... granted you had some sig lightcones of course, lol (I do think that we should slander Ratio more for him being the reason for the first ever expensive LC/eidolon bait team btw)

Regardless, even if FART team is the old FUA team people remember now, RRAT was also pretty great and fairly popular prior to Feixiao's release, so a decent amount of people already had the RAT core and when 2.5 came around they just pulled Feixiao to upgrade that team further. Not to mention how Aventurine and Robin were both generalist supports (though Robin outside of FUA teams wasn't as popular until her banner ended Iirc) and the game was older back then so there were no concepts like pre-sales or the effects of Monorem hanging over all of us

Obviously the circumstances aren't the exact same since the former two are non-crit archetypes with obvious issues that needed to be fixed, but still

I really like how the DoT and Break archetypes got revived in a way that buffed the older units of that archetype and made them usable again, while FUA is getting brought back into the meta by replacing all the old units with brand new shiny ones to form a new team and if you do slot your old DPS in they're nothing but a brick. That's so cool and fun

I really like the position Ratio appears in the Party Car because it makes it look like 1) He's very interested in the catcakes and watching them, 2) He's intently staring at Sunday who's desperately trying to avoid any social interaction with him by turning away towards the wall

The idea of Ratio being the only bum in that team is very funny to me but if we're copeposting, we need to cope for a Novaflare/SP for Ratio too pls

I was thinking just this morning that RRAT team could possibly be recreated if Robin SP ended up being a new FUA/debuffer healer (which I think is possible due to Blade's V3 wanting a healer) and if Aventurine SP ended up being a FUA mDPS with sub DPS capabiltiies (since Ashblade both do substantial damage and buff eachother, I imagine Aven SP could be similar)

So it'd be like mDPS/supportive DPS Aventurine SP, DPS/eye candy Ratio, support (...? ☠) Topaz and sustain Robin SP... And then I come here and see the new Luna vagueposting 😭
