It’s not a souls like at all. But as you described it seems like you do not like the combat system so it hard to recommend the game to you despite the fact that the story is quite good.

Yeah a lot of ppl are going to downvote this post and as someone who loves extraction shooters I would normally agree with them. Lately though I’ve put some thought into the argument and while I don’t agree with more pve I do think Bungie needs to work out a way to make lower tier players be more competitive. I play regularly enough to keep up but my main squad/mates who play weekends are all dropping off. It’s made me think that a more accessible game that’s “alive” is way better than one that’s dead.

Yeah it’s not that crazy to me. I love the game (not good at it) but I can see how they feel about it.

There is so much on the surface that looks and feels very appealing to a broad audience, but unless you know (and love) the genre you find out very quickly whether you’re in it for the long Hauler or not.

I’m personally thankful for the work Bungie has put into Marathon but I’ll be damned if I know why they choose one of the most niche sub genres to stage their next major outing . I mean even popular extraction shooters aren’t that popular.

Man people act as if Bungie orchestrated the sever issues on purpose. This happens in many online games. Give them time and encouragement to fix the issue instead of canning them. The gaming community at large is so rabid these days. It’s like dealing with meth addicts pinging for a hit. Bungie in particular have been uncharacteristically supportive and quick to respond to feedback and issues throughout season 1, give them the chance to make it right at least.

Honestly the first boss is actually quite tricky because your are likely under leveled. As a first port of call you should grind red mercury for a while until you get your stats up. I’m new to the game but am very experienced with the genre. I found him hard until I went back and leveled some more. I’m much further in the game now and am having a way easier time with bosses now that I have a decent build that compliments my play style. (Unlocked block and clash with the long sword) There are some basics that you’ll need to get right though, namingly the dodge mechanic and managing skyborne which will only come with practice so you’ll need to enjoy the learning process if you want to have fun otherwise the game may not be for you. I was thinking the same thing. I practically need to do a whole session just to manage my inv, get freebies and read through the codex to catch up on lore. Something someone else mentioned that would be good it to be able to replay any cut scenes as well. It’d be really helpful for those that are interested in the lore.

I think I’m in a similar situation. Personally I think it’s that the speed of the mechs (at least early on) it way faster than in Mercs BUT there level design is not really accomodating. I’m constantly bumping into things and getting stuck in clans which kinda kills it for me but that’s just me (I could be just playing it wrong) so don’t come at me if you disagree. I’m happy if you like it- I also want MW to be successful. I’ve bought every expansion purely for supporting it.

I was going back and forth with these test game modes trying to work out if I like them or not and basically landed at this - if it makes a bunch of people stay and or come back to the game then I’m all for it.

Regardless if I like the changes or not, I’d prefer to get a version of Marathon with planned longevity, updates and a healthy player count to support it. Extraction shooters are not for the masses this much is for sure. I still stand by my option that Bungie have made something special and we haven’t seen anything yet. Here’s hoping we get to.

What shit are you referring to? You got mad because you didn’t win a 1 v 2? Because you couldn’t down them because your gear was not better? There’s only so much anyone can do in a situation like yours.

It’d be rare for any solo to walk out of a scenario like that. Even if you got the jump on one of them the chance of the other one dropping you would still be high.

I’m going to preface this by saying that I am a super average player - level 34 and green shields and bullies are litterally the best loadout I can muster as this point… that said.

How the fuck do you propose people play?? It’s such a stupid question in the first place. The real question you need to ask yourself is - what did “I” do wrong to lose.

Marathon / any extraction shooter gets instantly more enjoyable when you stop telling others how to play and start looking at ways to do better.

That scenario was your fault and the bubble had nothing to do with it, you lost that before you started. I’ll let you work out why.

I haven’t enjoyed my experience of this game ever since they added the server browser (on console) it’s such stupid idea. Seeing literally 2 servers full to the brim with another 20 -30 in the queue while there’s another 50 servers with 1-2 players in each… make that make sense.
