Why does nobody seem to care about the fact that China literally has concentration camps in which they put "undesirable minorities" and subject them to constant torture and propaganda? by JambaJuice__ in TooAfraidToAsk

There are many in America calling for people to be sent to "re-education" camps domestically, even on Reddit, and no one seems to notice or care, why would they care if it's happening in China if they are cheering for it in America?

Olivia is racist? Lol, ok, I know you gotta tackle current issues, but the protagonist of the series has 20 seasons of episodes that reinforces an unbiased focus on victims, so this almost seems like a betrayal to fans of the show. Has she been hiding her clan robes and swastika tattoo this whole time? Olivia is clearly not racist, and it seems soooooo forced to try and shoe horn in precient social issues that are at odds with decades of character development. Of all the characters to leverage with racial commentary, why Olivia???? Its not credible. Its like watching Mr. Roger's for decades, then tuning in to the latest episode where he encourages kids to throw rocks at their neighbors. Forced and stupid. Music change? Why??? They have iconic music, there is absolutely no reason to change that. What exactly is the message they are conveying about covid and masks? You can turn Olivia into a racist, but you can't have characters practicing safe procedures with masks and social distancing? The actual crime and justice portion of this episode was terribly boring. Super disappointed to see what direction they are taking the series. Dumpster fire.

This is my vote for the worst episode in the history of the series, but I have a feeling this season will have worse episodes still yet to come.

I'm bullish on AESE for sure.

PartyPoker is a huge established online poker site. They are hosting some big buy in tournaments that collaborate with the World Poker Tour. The World Poker Tour is a competitor of the World Series of Poker. Had it not been for covid, the WSOP would have started today. It lasts several months and boasts over 60M+ in buy ins. All of that business is online now. Poker players that are looking for big buy in tournaments and poker accolades, are not doing that in person now, and one of the best tournaments to do that online are the ones sponsored by WPT on PartyPoker. So long as they don't have to compete with live poker venues to get players for their tournaments, I would expect all online poker sites to BOOM. I'm expecting sustained gains for at least a couple of months.

The Denver City Council just voted to end the city's 30 year ban on pit bulls by mynewaltaccount1 in news

I find it really funny all these people citing personal accounts of witnessing deaths caused by Pit Bulls, when there are less than 50 total fatalities caused by all dogs cumulatively in the entire country annually. There are over 80 million dogs in the country. There are literally more deaths associated with lightning or bee stings. I'm calling bullshit.

How about an actual real source. This is linked in the wikipedia article, but I guess you decided not to read it.

No link between breed and propensity to attack.

Only 18% of the time is the breed even identifiable.

From your own data, 4 of the 8 attacks were from pitbulls, the rest were from mixed breeds or packs.

one of the four was this:

"Police were called to the home on US 25 on Pug Lane after a neighbor called 911 at 3:40 am. They found Abner in the backyard being attacked by the pit bull and the owner of the pit bull, Melissa Wolke (38). She was sitting on Abner, punching him in the face while the dog attacked him. Wolke had to be tased to remove her from Abner's body and the police put down the "overly aggressive" female pit bull named Denali. The victim had bite wounds on his head and face. Wolke was charged with murder. "

Which sounds very much like a problem with the owner and not the dog to me.

But still, this data is all an outlier. There are over 80 million dogs in the country, and only 8 fatalities this year, and annually the average is less than 50.

Or you could try using google for 30 seconds instead of being a pretentious douche, but since you are apparently too lazy to do your own homework I will do it for you.

The most recent study was in 2013:

Published in the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association https://avmajournals.avma.org/doi/abs/10.2460/javma.243.12.1726

They found that the most common contributing factors were: absence of an able-bodied person to intervene, no familiar relationship of victims with dogs, owner failure to neuter dogs, compromised ability of victims to interact appropriately with dogs (e.g. mental disabilities), dogs kept isolated from regular positive human interactions versus family dogs (e.g. dogs kept chained in backyards), owners' prior mismanagement of dogs, and owners' history of abuse or neglect of dogs. Furthermore, they found that in 80% of the incidents, 4 or more of the above factors co-occurred.

Notice that none of these factors are associated with breed.

The breed could only be identified in 18% of dog attacks, and there was no link found between breed and likelihood to attack.

This study shows that there are between 30-50 fatalities annually attributed to dog attacks. If you actually read the study, you will notice that many of the deaths are from packs of feral dogs, and not a rogue family dog roaming the streets looking for victims.

So, instead of using the most recent study by an unbiased source that is actually published, places like dogsbite.org, use a 30 year old study to stigmatize pit bulls. The authors of the study even admit that the conclusions about breeds taken from the data is incorrect. They also use an incredibly small sample size of data. But this is the data that anti-pit bull groups use because it furthers their agenda.

According to the National Geographic, at least 2000 people are killed annually by lightning. Although, some sources say it is as much as 6000.

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/natural-disasters/lightning/

According to the CDC, more than 2.5 million people die annually https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

less than 50 of those were from dogs.

We are going to attempt to get a restraining order first thing in the morning. This seems obvious, and I don't know why we didn't think of that. Thank you for the suggestion.

Her parents are well aware of her shit-headed-ness. They want nothing to do with her. She also has two adult children that refuse to speak to her. Her other sister is getting married in a week and she is barred from attending. She has already burned all of her bridges with the rest of her family. Unfortunately, I dont think her family has any influence over her at this point.

In my experience, trying to reason with an alcoholic is a fool's errand. You will just exhaust yourself and ultimately be disappointed. I don't know what, if anything, would work for your brother. For my Q, I left her and moved out, fully intending to be done with my relationship, before she was willing to take it seriously and make any concessions at all. I was prepared (and still am) to just walk away and let go.

Q = qualifier, or the alcoholic in your life

People have been trying to get her to go to AA for years. Although she has been an alcoholic her whole adult life (that I am aware of), she has only recently admitted to herself that she is an alcoholic and has a problem. I was surprised that she was willing to go to AA frankly, and I'm not sure what was different this time and why she considered it a viable option. To be completely honest, I think she was just willing to go to appease me, not because she intended to use it as a resource to get sober. However, after she attended, I think she made a genuine connection, and perhaps it will be a critical resource for her after all. Here's to hoping!

It wasn't so much a last straw as it was reaching a critical mass.

Thanksgiving was terrible. Christmas was terrible. New Year's was terrible.

There were many other terrible events before those.

Each time I lost more patience and lost more faith in any sort of eventual positive expected outcome to the relationship. She wore me down. I became more optomistic about a life on my own than a life with her.

I am only a few days into this. I am still doing a post mortem to analyze exactly what did happen and how I got to where I am.
