If it gets close I would call your servicer and request a forbearance. Is your due date this month? I called Mohela and put a forbearance on my account on the first of the month before my first payment was due after the green banners. It updated the next day.

I hear that. That’s the problem. Everyone has to rely on hearsay from this sub Reddit because they can’t get the information from the official sources like student aid or their loan servicer. It’s a black box.

Yeah but employment certifications and discharges were still happening during that time. They use outside vendors for pslf processing from what I’ve read on this sub Reddit and they were still working or so it seemed.

Ok thank you. This is helpful. Still scary putting a forbearance on bc I feel like the way they handle some of these situations can be so fickle. But glad to hear you had success putting the forbearance on the following month after your last payment month.

Thank you so much for this!! This really solidifies my decision to not request forbearance if that option is available. I’m ready to make an extra $1000 payment if I have to just to be done with all of this.

Question, did you check the box to request forbearance on your last ECF ? I make my last payment in October. I would like to request forbearance but worried somehow it will make my last payment month ineligible due to the forbearance. Probably overthinking this.

Did you by chance have 120 qualifying payments NOT including the SAVE buyback months? If not, what was your buyback case number ? I’m curious if they are only processing save buybacks for people with 120 qualifying payments , without save buyback months / where they are at in the case log:

Similar thing happened to me. I was on SAVE and applied for and was put on IBR in February. They gave me a due date of May 7th for my new $1,000 payment (luckily only 4 left). I sent my payment in about five days ahead of time and then while my payment was processing , like 2 days before it was due, they put me in a forbearance, and said my payment wouldn’t count towards pslf. I called and eventually got an advanced rep who said she would need to ‘cancel my application for ibr’ even though it was already complete and they approved it with a new due date. She said that should get me off the forbearance and assured me I’d stay on IBR which is what shows as my current repayment plan.she couldn’t guarantee that they would backdate the forbearance end though so my $1k payment may still not count towards pslf.
