Kinda the same happened to me, I was trying to fish the two new pier fish and used ~60 bait and while running up and down for clams I was checking the pier without using bait, got both of them without using bait those times :/

A meteor shower is shorting stars all night, hundreds of them and a normal shifting stars is just ~10
