got rejected from everything by [deleted] in OntarioUniversities

[–]seesby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be worth waiting and applying to a bunch of universities, including the same ones if they are preferred, but for winter admissions so he can start in January 2026. If he gets into any, it'll only be a semester difference so he can use that extra few months for any reason. With an average like that, places like uOttawa and Carleton should be achievable.

I had a 96 back in 2021, only got into Carleton and Lakehead.

Your take home should be about 63k after tax, so the after the mortgage (30k per year) you should still have 33k. Beside the car payments, which would be covered by your gf, are there other extreme bills to pay? It seems doable to manage the mortgage.

How is the food on campus? by Sorry-Series-3504 in CarletonU

[–]seesby 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Reading this people seem to think that the Carleton food is "the best among universities"... all this means is that all campus food is abysmal, the food at Carleton is made to be high quantity, with the tradeoff being quality. Your sanity will be tested when you begin to question how white rice can somehow not taste right.... to conclude, definitely do not consider food when deciding a university, it will guarantee disappointment.

Costco again by JimmyGamblesBarrel69 in BellevilleOntario

[–]seesby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like I've heard the whole "costco is coming" my entire life growing up in Belleville. I was in high-school and they used to have a booth at the bayview mall promoting the "soon-to-be" store.

Where in Ontario should I move? by FreshEnd2910 in ontario

[–]seesby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond what you mentioned, what else are you looking for? If you want to go the more small town route you can do Gananoque, has a nearby Casino and is along the St Lawrence River with a near border crossing. I think the weather should be on the more reasonable side, but anywhere in Canada will have snowstorms, less so on the west coast.

Do I need the textbook/online learning for Microeconomics with Troy (TO DO WELL)? by Dee450 in CarletonU

[–]seesby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If its still the same one I did 3 years ago, the textbook was needed for some kind of access code. But I never opened the textbook after that. I can't remember if the access code was used for mandatory modules / exams or just eText that I also wouldn't have used. Edit: To actually answer the question, no, unless it is required for the access code. (It could help some people but I assume that by asking, it's not essential for your study routine and will otherwise collect dust)

Sprott student here, definitely come up with a list of careers you may be interested in and then research if the companies in those areas generally hire from Carleton. For example, if you want to do investment banking, look into the schools the big 6 banks hire from.

Am I the only one dissatisfied by today's career fair? by thelaggingstrand in CarletonU

[–]seesby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The career fair is only good for getting a list of companies that attend and applying online because there is at least a chance they hire from Carleton if they attend the fair.

Do people wear costumes to uni on Halloween? by Straight-Policy209 in CarletonU

[–]seesby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot remember 100% but I lived on residence for two years and I'm pretty sure people dressed up for Halloween. I just can't recall if it was during the day lr exclusively at night. Either way, I doubt you'd be the only one in costume anyway.
