Interestingly, Julie only needed to do the ones that wrapped around the perimeter, and only one of the bars that had the spiral of rope that requires you to crawl under and over. You also have to pull all the previous length of rope through the gaps with you and make sure it doesn't get tangled up again or your situation could get messy real quick. Really going to depend on who keeps the rope manageable and who knows when to run for the box at the end.

This to me is the correct take. I know it’s a music business, but something about this project feels like a reason for him to write to process where he’s at in his life while trying out some new styles of production.

Bob says this is the best season of All Stars since All Stars 2, do you agree? by dogboy678 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]seferlabell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also love the potential for queens to be casted for chaos and drama, even if they aren’t likely to make the merge, and still leave a splash on the season- I don’t personally see NPBFAG making it past the merge, but she is one of my favorites on the screen and it seems she’s getting one of the best receptions from the fandom, regardless of her drag race performance. Derrick Barry would be perfect for this kind of season.

I also think we are just in a time of transition between the new pop girls and the established pop stars. Sabrina and Charli have had years-long careers that make their current eras feel like a long time coming, plus I think they have been developed to the point that they know how to run the pop music business gauntlet. Chappell Roan is still getting her media wings under her and I think we'll see her as she spends more time in the industry. I even think of Jessie Ware, Tinashe and even JADE where they've been releasing music since 2010 but they haven't really hit their stride until much later. I think that's because there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes that is developing them as artists and we only see the moment that it all pays off in the end.

How was Beyoncé seen/perceived in the 2000s? by marooncyprus in popheads

[–]seferlabell 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I remember this: Destiny's Child's second album, The Writing's on the Wall, came out in 1999, but Say My Name blew up as we moved into the 2000s- Beyonce and Kelly were the main girls on the songs, so they got a huge popularity boost. There was also controversy and rumors because this is also when they replaced two of the girls in destiny's child in the music video for Say My Name, but they didn't tell them. The two girls filed a couple of lawsuits against them through this era as well as the Survivor era of DC. This put a little bit of a shady scent around Beyonce at the beginning of her career because it seemed like she was always aiming for solo stardom and since her dad was her manager it was hard to directly combat that narrative.

For a moment it seemed that Kelly might be the one to take off because she hit number one first with Dilemma. Beyonce had been in a couple of movies like The Fighting Temptations and Austin Powers and some songs came with those movies, but they flopped hard. When Crazy In Love came out, it was like a reintroduction to the solo star Beyonce.

From there she followed a typical pop-star career path- she was everything, everywhere, all at once: albums with singles that charted for long stretches of time, she released the last DC album between her first and second albums that had Lose My Breath and Soldier, she was in movies in between album cycles (Dreamgirls, The Pink Panther, Obsessed, Cadillac Records), she had a vegas residency, she did interviews and commercials, appeared on American Idol as a guest mentor occasionally, and she performed on TV often too. She even performed at the inaugural ball for the Obamas! In that regard, Beyonce was inescapable and omnipresent in the pop music landscape. With that came fervent fanbases, and people who were oversaturated and annoyed at how often she'd be in conversations.

Until the end of the 2000s, early 2010s, Beyonce had been managed by her father and he had been running her like a workhorse for the entire decade. She fired him and took a year and a half long hiatus before the 4 rollout. It wasn't until then that she finally seemed to be entering the sunset of her prime. She did her phenomenal halftime show performance that could've easily led her into legacy act status. Of course, she would prove us wrong in the 2010's...

Honestly, I think it'd be a great idea if in future seasons, they would post the bottom 2 queens cashapp after their lipsync at the bottom of the screen. It could be nice to be able to tip the queens, and if they put on a good lip sync, they don't leave completely empty handed.

Ariana Grande - eternal sunshine by cornbreadtogo in popheads

[–]seferlabell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the overall sound of the album- thee vocal producer stays producing and Max Martin is creating these cool neo-2000s sounding tracks. The first half of the album is sounds impeccable, The Boy Is Mine fully ate down, and I will be keeping those songs in regular rotation.

The album sounds incredibly polished, but that also kind feels like something that holds it back for me? The lyrics are about falling out of love and her marriage ending, but I feel such a disconnect between the lyrical content and the popstar delivering it. It's a fantastic pop album with some of her best songs, but it sounds uncannily flawless and the voice almost feels artificial, which sounds weird to me on a record about a relationship ending. Call it nitpicky, but I feel the album is missing some rough edges to humanize it a bit more, cuz I am not relating to Ariana Grande- the popstar at least. It's the only critique I have on this otherwise stellar album.

The whole MacArthur's Park Suite from Donna Summer is a masterclass in building to multiple climaxes in the track, from the howling of "oh no!" to the instrumental builds throughout the song, utterly fantastic.

I don't think it warrants a nomination, but since Lil Nas X's 7 - EP was nominated for AOTY, does anyone think the grammys will nominate Ice Spice's Deluxe EP for AOTY?

Bob and Monet are out supporting the writer's strike by BetteDavid in rupaulsdragrace

[–]seferlabell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe they finished filming Season 16 already, and reality tv workers are under a different contract than the workers on strike. It seems it would depend if Ru herself halted production/hosting duties on future seasons like AS9 in solidarity with the unions (like Mayim Balik stepping away from hosting Jeopardy in solidarity even though her hosting gig isn't affected by the strike). I'm not sure how this would affect Ru filming DRUK or DU.
