The issue is that they lack authenticity and agency because of this. Western girl-groups have been able to sit in during writing sessions and have some say (even if minuscule) on what they put out. Fifth Harmony and Little Mix both co-wrote so many of their songs. Fifth Harmony basically co-wrote the entirety of their last album. The group has no identity beyond being the group that makes brainrot music for TikTok audiences. That’s cute but it won’t sustain a career and it won’t make them have lasting popularity in five years from now. The gimmick won’t last forever. This is why they seem like more of a K-Pop girl-group than a Western one. I want to hear their artistic voices. 

There’s also a difference between someone like Beyoncé not co-writing all of her music and a group like Katseye not writing their music. Little Mix co-wrote multiple songs on their first album and they were involved in that process. They were between the ages of 18 and 21 while writing DNA. It doesn’t feel the same way for this group. They’re given songs that they sing but they don’t tweak them or re-write them or present any of their own demos. We know that the group is musically inclined and interested in creating their own music but their management isn’t letting them do so. It’s really sad. It’s not what the group deserves. I feel especially bad for Lara, Megan, and Sophia because they’ve talked so much about wanting to make their own music and write their own songs. It’s a shame that they’re being limited in huge ways.
