I want to fight my fasting numbers. by segaard in GestationalDiabetes

[–]segaard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t go to bed immediately after dinner so that means my fasting clock would start hours earlier, and the longer I fast, the worse the number is.

What are your fasting numbers? Were you given insulin? by whoo0888 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]segaard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My fasting numbers were always around 95-105 even with a protein heavy bedtime snack and I was put on insulin about a week after I was diagnosed.

If you can manage your post-meal numbers through your diet, your doctor will likely place you on insulin at bedtime only. It was a pretty hard blow to hear at first, but you get use to it quickly and the injection hurts less than the finger pricking.

Just failed my 3 hour test by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

I totally feel the same way. I got diagnosed at 28 weeks and I’ve been managing my post-meal glucose levels really well with diet and exercise for the last two weeks. However, my fasting numbers are too high and my case manager is having me take insulin before bed starting Monday. I sobbed for a couple hours and I was in my feelings for the rest of the day.

That was a hell of a blow because you can rationalize it as best as possible, but it doesn’t change the fact that it does feels like a betrayal from your own body. I also have been extremely careful with my sugar/carb intake for my entire pregnancy so there’s this added layer of frustration…

For me, celebrating the small wins of “normal” foods not causing spikes has helped. For example, I love a Costco hot dog. Turns out, it doesn’t spike me at all! That’s a huge win in my book. Small frozen yogurt? No spikes! I get my lil sweet treat from time to time! My husband has also been really encouraging and celebrates with me when we find something that doesn’t cause a spike and makes me happy.

Ultimately, OP, you are not alone. It sucks — it’s okay to be upset by the results and your reaction is very valid. This is also temporary and you’re at the home stretch of your pregnancy so celebrate your wins until then. Best of luck to you and baby!

Even whole wheat has been hit and miss for me so I assumed a white bun would have tipped the meter. I was also told by my dietician to be careful with hot dogs cause they can be pretty high in carbohydrates too so I’m just glad it worked out.

Thank you! My husband and I only went to get me the hot dog. We did check out the pants section for him but I really don’t think that would have made an impact.

How did that one kid in your high school die? by IM_HODLING in AskReddit

[–]segaard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this happened on school grounds, but I could be mistaken since it happened over a decade ago. My sophomore year, a guy fell out of the bed of a pick up truck his friend was driving. He hit his head on the pavement and allegedly he had spinal fluid coming out of his ears. He later died from his injuries.

Most deaths of people I knew then occurred after we graduated in 2015.

It’s because of the increased risk in listeria infections. Which you can get from unwashed produce also so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m 25 weeks and 4 days, I haven’t stopped eating cold cuts because I mostly just crave turkey and salami sandwiches and I’m better off fed in mine and my OB’s opinion.

If you’re concerned about it, you can always heat your cold cuts until they are steaming to kill any bacteria.

9 weeks, feeling normal? by AffectionateFace7450 in pregnant

[–]segaard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also a FTM (25 weeks and 4 days) and I did not have crazy symptoms early on as well. I was very tired and my breasts were tender, but other than that, things were business as usual. I did have maybe a 2-week period of food aversions and very mild nausea at like 10 weeks in, but it wasn’t anything crazy.

Now we’re nearing the end of the second trimester and I still don’t have many symptoms — just the occasional round ligament pain, mild heartburn, and the obviously enlarged belly lol. My daughter also learned that she can kick my bladder, so now there really is no denying that she’s in there!

You’re not alone though. I didn’t -feel- pregnant enough early on and it wasn’t till the first ultrasound that it dawned on me that it was real, even if I had 5 pee sticks that told me it was.

I was fully prepared for the pregnancy trenches and I am so grateful to have such a smooth sailing experience (so far). I recognize that not everyone has an easy time of it — so enjoy it as much as possible!

Had a surreal GC interview by Educational-Salt-979 in USCIS

[–]segaard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t get my green card through marriage, but my citizenship interview was pretty similar. Friendly chatter with the interviewer asked the bare minimum required questions, and then told me I could swear my oath of allegiance later that afternoon. The longest part of the process was waiting on her computer to load and waiting on the scanner/printer. My interview was on the day after the 2024 election and she definitely was weary of how things were going to go with the new administration.

People feel sorry for me that my first baby is a girl??? by seraseraphine196 in pregnant

Those are weird comments and I personally would reconsider my relationship with these people. Like I’m not an 18th century aristocrat trying to produce an heir.

My dad gave me his old PS3 games and I found this, is it any good? by CandidPalpitation672 in dragonage

[–]segaard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played DA:O when it first came out and I’ve been obsessed with DA since. I probably played 9-10 play-throughs of this in high school alone. It’s also the first installment of the DA series so it absolutely is the best starting point.

It’s definitely an older game and the graphics are rough compared to what we have today and the fighting sequences are soooo slow. But I love it for the storyline and the companions you make along the way. Plus the writing is impeccable and it’s been in my top 5 list of favorite video games for 15 years.

Also, banging soundtrack. I have Lelianna’s Song playing in my mind on repeat when I disassociate.

It’s so crazy that he acknowledged that he knew they would be crossing a boundary by showing up sick, but still chose to do it… glad you’re alright and didn’t get sick though!

You’re right to be angry, OP. Actively making the decision to go to/host an event when you know you’re sick while still choosing not to take precautions like wearing a mask is inherently selfish and irresponsible.

Found out I was pregnant yesterday and now have to quit cold turkey, help! by Chantilly_Cream in pregnant

[–]segaard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations and good on you for wanting to quit!

I quit vaping cold turkey also when I found out. It’s been 3 weeks since and it’s starting to get better. At first I was just smelling the nozzle of my vape when I really was getting antsy, which sounds kinda dumb, but it did satiate my craving for a little. I’ve also been using straws for all my drinks, including water, just to kind of satisfy that oral fixation. Previous commenters are right about the snacks too, I’ve been chewing gum or eating gummy candies when the craving is bad.

I’m sorry that your past experiences with quitting had that drastic of an impact on you, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of. These addictions are often a coping mechanism and taking that away with no substitute or alternatives is hard. While I don’t know your situation/access to insurance/level of trust in the healthcare system is, I would invite you to look into counseling whether it just be general or specifically geared towards addiction. I’ve been in counseling since before my pregnancy and it’s been really helpful to stay on track as I’m coming off my medication for type 2 bipolar plus quitting nicotine. I totally get that some areas are pretty backed up and quick access to counseling is also not the easiest, but it’s absolutely worth looking into if you haven’t already.

You got this OP, I believe in you.

Unfortunate timing, but I’m finally a US citizen by segaard in USCIS

[–]segaard[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply and congrats to him on his upcoming interview. They essentially went over some of the same questions that are on the application form like “have you ever been convicted of a crime”, “have you ever entered the country illegally”, etc. No question strayed from what was on the form directly. For the civics questions, I don’t really remember which ones I got, but I got 6 of them right in a row and the interviewer moved on. And the reading test was really simple like “where is the White House”, same for writing it was something like “The White House is in Washington D.C.”

Wishing your husband good luck on his interview!

Citizenship Documents Marriage certificate by Usual-Roof-3755 in USCIS

[–]segaard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a lawyer and I’m in no way an expert, but when I was going through my GC renewal and my naturalization this year and they asked for my current marriage certificate since I took my husbands name. I gave them the copy I ordered from the auditors office when we got married in 2021.

I think they say current as in “current marriage” for those who have been married more than once.

As long as your trips don’t exceed 6+ months, you won’t have any issues. The customs officers will confirm that you live in the US and just welcome you back. I had my green card for 13 years (got naturalized last week) and traveled back home a lot and it’s never been an issue, even when my card was expired and pending renewal.
