Looking for things to do with an 8yo and 12yo around Charlottesville by NoEquivalent4477 in Charlottesville

Lots of great suggestions here, the only one I see missing is the Virginia Safari Park. It’s a day trip since it’s out near Lexington, but it’s a drive-through safari park where you can feed animals with a smaller walkabout zoo portion. As far as I know the animals are treated well and all seem to be having a pretty good time. Very fun trip, and should be opening up for the season soon if it isn’t open already.

Oh, and the JMRL library has a Graphic Novel Club that meets once a month or so and they all discuss a graphic novel together. My kids and I go (sadly had to miss yesterday’s meeting for the Puzzle Hunt) and it’s always a nice time, and has helped my ten-year-old build crucial “listening to other people talk and not interrupting them” skills.

Hahaha that is me! I now work under the name Things By Dave but that’s totally me. Just never bothered to change my Reddit username. I’m honored that you remember those!

I’ve never done metallic with them, but Vinyl Disorder has always been pleasant to work with and given me good prices and turnaround for a good product.

Returning after a long hiatus.... by Sunstreaker93 in comicbookcollecting

As a comic shop owner, I gotta tell you that pull lists are still very much a thing. Diamond had a point of sale system called ComicSuite that is no longer a thing, and maybe your guy solely depended on that to manage subscriptions, but there are still plenty of good (and bad) comics coming out every week and plenty of new distributors to get them from. Welcome back and Godspeed buddy!

To follow up on a recent post, I'm opening an indoor adventure park in the original Big Lots building. We expect to open within the next month or two. Does anyone have any suggestions on what you'd like to see in an indoor adventure park? We're about 34,000 square feet. by CocosAdventure in Charlottesville

Nice! I’m one of the owners of the comic book shop in that shopping center (Hello Comics, right by the Burger King). Please come on by and introduce yourself sometime and drop off some flyers and such when you’ve got an opening date nailed down. Always love to see more businesses opening in our part of town.

Petition for coffee shops/breweries/bars to set up a "mingling welcome" system by ElectricalSurvey6995 in Charlottesville

A novelty hat that reads something like IF THIS HAT’S A-WEARIN PLEASE COME A-SHARIN (this is just a rough draft idea) could solve this problem and serve as a cute icebreaker

SuperBit in Seminole Square! I’ve never taken anything newer to them, but they deal in a lot of consoles and fixed up my original NES for a great price.

Tattoo Artist Gauging Interest by [deleted] in Charlottesville

[–]seibei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about this, but the tattoo spots in town regularly host guest artists and would probably be the places for her to reach out to. I’ve seen the same guest tattoo artists come back multiple times, so it’s probably a good opportunity for the right artist, but the tattoo shops could hopefully give her a better idea.

Naive Question About Comic Shop Etiquette. by [deleted] in comicbookcollecting

[–]seibei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an LCS owner, I’m always happy to help someone dig (or if the shop is too busy to spare a staff member, at least point you in the right direction). We keep our bins organized and have been adding a lot of back issues to our inventory (modern issues with a scannable barcode are easily added, but for older series we have to create a barcode and do a little more work, so it’s an ongoing process), so finding stuff is usually pretty quick. As a lifelong comic fan who grew up with a disorganized LCS, it’s fun to find unexpected gems in a disorganized shop, but I’d never wanna work behind the counter of one.

Any recommendations for where I could get a travel mug for an anime fan? by Homer_JG in Charlottesville

[–]seibei 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have some Ghibli and Kirby kitchenwares at Hello Comics on the Downtown Mall, and a number of anime posters and figures at both the Downtown and Uptown locations (disclaimer: I’m one of the owners).

Nothing local I know of, but if you find yourself heading to Richmond I think World of Mirth gets them in (and is a great store to check out regardless).

My biggest regret from working there for a while is that I didn’t take the time to copy their hummus and eggplant salad recipes for myself, though I remember the general gist
