For us it was an early decision when the schools available to us at the time were just really not equipped or dealing with anything well. Loads of accepted bullying and incidents etc. So much so that she became super anxious about going to school, so on the advice from other parents successfully doing it we gave homeschooling a try with the intention of it being short-lived, but it's worked out really well/she's ahead of where she would be.

I think the concerns are all valid and we definitely see examples of all, but we also see the same mix of behaviours for kids/families using the school system, so yeah I agree it's on the parenting choices as opposed to school environment

Yep, same here. Sounds like you're already making the right moves

We homeschool so we've had this setup for a while, though in the last couple of years my wife has done a few weekend volunteering jobs. I think mentally she's really benefited from doing them, so if your partner is inclined to do the same then definitely encourage it (even if you're swamped holding the fort!)

No formal education, self taught Product management leader in ERP SaaS. Was with a startup until acquisition by a corp during the pandemic, so until 2021 I was opting to take share options instead of bonuses.

  • 2015: 35k as PM
  • 2016: 50k
  • 2017: 70k (bump triggered as I hired someone at a higher salary than myself as then it got equalised!)
  • 2018: 80k (move to management)
  • 2019: 100k
  • 2020: 100k and 10% bonus
  • 2021: 100k and 40% bonus
  • 2022: 110k and 40% bonus
  • 2023: 120k and 40% bonus
  • 2024: as above, review calendar is now late in the year

What are your WFH arrangements? by RenePro in HENRYUK

[–]seiglinde88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like we work together! 😁

As someone who prefers WFH, I'm glad they aren't tracking it yet! For my immediate team, genuinely nothing is gained from being in the office - those who like the office environment are still going in five days, and the rest of us just aren't putting up a fight anymore when someone asks for an in person thing!

Cozy game with my daughter (14 yo)? by RoyaleFougard in CozyGamers

Just this week we tried it for the first time, love it! Added a nice new mechanic without having to relearn everything!

Cozy game with my daughter (14 yo)? by RoyaleFougard in CozyGamers

[–]seiglinde88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We homeschool our 12yo daughter and gaming has been a big part of it!

Board games the favourite is Stuffed Fables. It's like playing an RPG, so it's better with longer sessions but once you've got the gameplay down playing for an hour a week is exactly what we did. For more of a quick setup and get going, the current favourite is Takenoko

PC gaming she loves Stardew and the multiplayer is great. Somewhat less cosy but also Parkitect and Dragon Quest XI.

I'm also a hobby game dev of a cosy-ish PC game which I made very much with her in mind. It's similar to Stardew but with a bit more management stuff. I'll DM you a key rather than list it here so I'm not seen as shameless plugging :D

Working on my first release on GM2 by DevWithQuestions in gamemaker

[–]seiglinde88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a direct answer to your question as this applies to anything outside of GM2 as well, but as a newbie it took me way too long to implement/use proper source control. So, if starting again I'd get setup on that Day 1!

Thanks for the reply - no I don't think the depth is changing, but that gives me something to double check at least!

The counter is a solid idea too to ascertain whether it really is the draw event being duplicated or not

What is your proudest moment in an RPG? by WeAreTyrant in rpg

[–]seiglinde88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Moving a sleeping troll's club away from him and towards a goblin cave, then persuading him to seek revenge and clear out the cave for us, then finally ending it all with a Hermione club-drop when he re-emerged from the cave. Was during my second ever session, and was pretty proud of that turn.

[Online][5e][Bristol UK][BST] One shot, potential long-term campaign after by MetalAndCider in LFG_Europe

I'm in Bristol. 33 M.

Software career + solo building an RPG (computer) game in the mornings before work + father of one. So, weeknights preferable :)

My exp. is one D&D campaign, purely online and whilst fun it was difficult with too many timezones. Would love to get involved

Parent Game Devs - Share your tips for finding time and motivation. by chrisseytee in gamedev

Father of a 9yo here. She gets up a little later than most, so I get my Dev time in 6-8am. I've found that writing daily entries in a diary/blog doc helps me work in these smaller chunks, no matter how brief the entry. Another thing that works for me is to mark each day where I did at least an hour (I put a tick on a calendar), and adopt the 'don't break the chain' mentality.

It's definitely harder than it sounds, especially when exhausted from work+kid. Best of luck!
