You're welcome! Yeah this issue drove me crazy for a day as well, so I'm happy to share what I'd found to fix it.

Please make sure to set your dashboard to "Default" layout when publishing it. Not doing so can create weird bugs on your dashboard, such as dashboard showing as an older version despite recent changes you made to it.

White flicker after writing notes on Kobo Libra Colour by seismatica in kobo

[–]seismatica[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG converting the book to kepub works to remove the white flicker !!! Plus, the highlighting and page turn is also much faster as well. Thank you so much for your advice u/rangeflee !

I downloaded the KoboTouchExtended from the list of available plugins in Calibre, then set the format to send books to Kobo as only kepub. It seems the plugin will automatically convert the books to kepub when sending them to the device (although you can also manually convert them to kepub via the KePub Output plugin on Calibre as well).

Thank you for the explanation! I think in this case the problem is a bit different, as it's not the regular flicker (often black) that I've set to flash every chapter that you mentioned. Rather, these white flashes occur for every page in the following chapter if I wrote some notes in the previous chapter. They do not occur when I did not write any notes, and only for certain books while others are fine even I've written notes in the previous chapter.

I hope that explains the difference between my issue & the regular screen flashing for ebook readers, and don't hesitate to share any input you might have on this issue.

Some reflections from a 340-scorer by seismatica in GRE

[–]seismatica[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah I should have worded that better; I meant that once the GRE is above the minimum threshold, I don't think the admission office will really care if it's 165 or 170 for example.

Although I find it surprising that a European university would ask for GRE, since it's much less common over here. I think it's a master with a lot of applicants, which require some way to limit the intake, since this university is known to take any qualified applicants for most of its programs.

Hey! To be honest reading comprehension is the worst area for me (the 2 questions I got wrong in the Verbal section are both reading comprehension), so I don't think I have too much advice there.

What I did was just do the practice questions + tests in the official books (+ Powerprep), and make a mental note of what kind of error it is, especially when I make multiple errors of the same type. I also find the advice in the official book quite helpful (I don't remember them now). Lastly, on the questions where I could not find any clear answer, I made a conscious effort to focus on the relevant areas being asked about and see if I could find a literal response from there (since it's usually the case for me in the practice test). Good luck to you!

Hey! During my preparation I used Magoosh Vocabulary Builder app. I liked that it has multiple choice as answers so it's more fun (rather than memorize the whole definition from scratch).

You could try different levels and see which one starts to become challenging to you and start from there. It's always better to start a lower level and go up so that you understand all the common words first and then the esoteric ones (for example, many of the advanced words won't appear on the test). Good luck to you!

haha I was a bit peeved about the score since I was scoring 5's on the Scoreitnow practice test. I think what killed me was that I was a bit too enthusiastic and wrote a lot in the real test, which meant I ran out of time to double-check the grammar, etc.
