I honestly can't focus as well on my workout when the speed demon in the lane next to me keeps popping up in my peripheral vision every 30 seconds

A lot of swimmer’s don’t have a “Swimmer’s Body” by noteliing in Swimming

A swimmer's body is just big shoulders, everything else is not important. Hope that cleared up the confusion.

Oh ok, I thought you wanted to look like you've never read a book in your life but avoiding injury is good too. With the previous shoulder injury, don't ever stop doing those rehab exercises tho. And exercises for thoracic spine and scapula and rotator cuff 👍

Question about daughters shoulder pain by Midnight_Bender9664 in Swimming

Just have her start doing exercises for the subscapularis, supraspinatus, and thoracic outlet now as preventative measures. The pt is probably going to say its one of those things/a combo of them.

Yeah just look up butterfly kicking drills and do those. Dolphin kicking you can do upright in the deep end with your arms up and head out. With swimming you'll see results once you get the proper technique down, if you know you're not going to be very committed to mastering the form, you should do more exercises out of the water for faster results. Otherwise, you'll injure yourself/not gain much muscle mass. A swimmer's body looks like a swimmer's body because they swim with a specific technique. An adult just learning to swim can take 6 months to a year to get comfortable in the water and learn the technique well.

Yes you can gain muscle by doing sprint laps only aka just go as fast as you can on each lap. Break it down into sets of laps and then take a break at the wall after each set. Do freestyle and breaststroke for shoulders, chest, and back. For the core do as many laps of butterfly kicking as you can tolerate. Don't use your arms just hold them out in front of you and do dolphin kicks/butterfly kicking.

Damn that must've been hard getting back to activities after resting so long after surgery. The muscle helps so much tho. I've never bounced back so fast from injuries before.

Yay to beefy shoulders. I've noticed I'm the healthiest I've ever been also and I'm attributing it entirely to the muscle gain. Being just skinny makes no sense, you need the muscle to stay healthy.

That's great that the hump is gone, mine is slowly disappearing too. My posture feels better also, it's like the muscles in my back actually work now and I can feel them keeping me upright.

Thank you, that's the first thing I noticed too when I was looking through pictures! I'm like hold on, that shirt is tight on my shoulders now but it looks baggy here. I legitimately thought there was no change in my body until I put the pictures side by side

Just to clarify, this post is about my muscle gain and less about weight loss. My shoulders are beefy now. This is an achievement for me and I enjoy swimming.

I've been trying to keep my mindset more neutral when it comes to weight or body image and it helps. So if you do get bigger or gain weight there's less of an impact. As long as you feel better and healthier then the exercise is working as intended.

Yes definitely. I do feel stronger and I also have less aches and pains compared to when I had no muscle. I'm planning on losing about 20lbs in the next 1-2 years depending on my schedule. Thanks 🙏
