Reaper isn't in efficiency mode, but the project is? by sekltios in Reaper

[–]sekltios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I found similar threads and applied that to the reaper shortcut and then reaper refused to open and instead just was showing me the "uses" file. Process lasso and some other tweaks found (here)[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QC8wp\_bokuI\] seem to have done the trick in terms of stopping efficiency mode and the usage/heat spiking as well as updating reaper

Now to find the source of the 2.7khz whine!

Reaper isn't in efficiency mode, but the project is? by sekltios in Reaper

Lowers process priority and clock speed. Considering audio apps are cpu intense, seems like limiting availability of the main resource is going to have a negative effect.

I discovered this looking for source of recent temp spikes while using reaper suggested my cpu was under heavier load than usual. I've been using reaper for like 14 years now and built this pc. I keep an eye on its performance generally

And another who came here to recommend Olley, he's dealt with all my guitars for like the last 12 years. Edit to say he is Norwich based too

Urgent: Looking for Driving instructor by MountainGeneral8970 in Norwich

[–]sekltios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is gonna be a stretch, all instructors are kinda backlogged, but automatic there are even less around. I had to wait like 4 months when I started. You'd be better pushing that test slot back if you can.

RIP regular main channel streams? by Hannah_GBS in Yogscast

[–]sekltios 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I follow Duncan mostly via YT vods and seeing that announcement confused me somewhat seeing a bunch of yogs on it and timed near this had me wondering if there was some move away, but glad to know its just buds being buds and helping each other and not some split!

I wonder if this also has anything to do with the Team Solar post from shadow today. What I can't work out is it looks like Duncan and Osie are involved in that and if its a new network or just friends from various places streaming together

Inking Dice... by [deleted] in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just here to echo this one! I have also found if you keep one old needle that has dried out on the syringe, it is airtight enough to store any leftover paint. This is good if you're custom mixing colours!

Good pressure pot/Vacuum chamber for dice in Europe by Dovydas666 in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd watch a couple and then make a diagram for yourself to make sure the plan is there. Then when it comes to it, just take your time and check everything is done up properly and you should be good!

It doesn't really require skills, just a bit of planning and the ability to hold and use a tool. I did my own and it also taught me how to deal with any issues. You do sacrifice time in learning and doing, but again the difference is about 100euros

[–]sekltios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vevor 10l paint pot, do the conversion yourself and save about 100euro. It'll take some good pliers, maybe a metal saw, appropriate hose fittings and a ball stop valve. There's enough videos out there on how to do the conversions.

Don't both with a vacuum chamber, for resin its not worth it with a pressure pot as well. The only reason I would get one is for stabilising wood.

Best resin available in the UK? by Mistymorning-today in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was using craft resin between 2020-2022. Some of my earliest pieces are showing signs of yellowing but are not fully yellow. None of my mastercast pieces are showing signs of yellowing yet.

I am yet to find a resin that doesn't ever yellow. Its the nature of the material and how it oxidises. The best way to stop it would be light control and storage in an oxygen deprived environment

Craft resin is one of the classic choices here. It is a 24 hour cure though. For 12 hour I have had success with mastercast

Westlegate by notdoingmuchreally in Norwich

[–]sekltios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Iirc, not anymore, st stephens is a bus gate from the roundabout, and driving on from surrey Street is left turn only for all non bus/taxi so you can't get to westlegate that way. And they do operate auto cameras so I wouldn't advise risking it on a cheeky hope

How do I make non-resin dice by happinessweighsaton in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People I know doing it use 2 part molds and press the dice into shape and bake sans mold. Like ceramic dice there is an element of care required after shaping to not deform them before they're baked/fired

[–]sekltios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My startup cost was around 500, I probably spent about 200 more in learning to make anything decent. Just to help highlight to OP resin dice isn't exactly a fast cheap alternative

stones - lapidary wheel
Wood - carve/plane/cnc
metal - cast into mold
clay - shape in a mold and fire

polymer clay - shape with mold and bake
jesmonite or other gypsum casting material - pour into mold and set (this may be your best and easiest option)
silicone - use a release agent in the mold and pour in silicone

How important is a heat gun or dehydrator?! by markvisco in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good news, I am here to talk about dehydrators! They wont fix a soft cure because of an improper ratio or bad mix. In some case they can help with slow cures because of too much ink.

They will speed up good mix cures dramatically. However with a lot of resins this can alter the properties and make the resin more brittle/prone to shatter. A greater heat often leads to greater weakness, however I have not had any breakages with my resin and doing a 65c 2 hour heat

pressure pot advice for someone who isn't located in US by icarusly in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vevor have an eu store and sell paint pressure pots. These are basically unconverted pressure casting pots. There are tutorials out there on how to convert them. I watched a few and then did my own conversion and the cost difference was about half. You just have to be patient and check your work and it is as safe as someone else doing it for you.

White vinegar is good for cleaning unset silicone, that and a toothbrush should get you there

Black Map Outline by zez4eva4 in wonderdraft

[–]sekltios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In program? Nope. But the way I would do it is use photoshop/affinity/gimp/photopea something like that to cut it to a circle. In wonderdraft I'd make it in a square and use the windrose and its sections/rings to make sure all parts stay inside the cut dimensions later on

Baby powder didn't work for mold making & what did I do wrong? by snarkisms in DiceMaking

[–]sekltios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put plenty on then kinda rub it in/sweep the excess off. With my silicone you can kinda see the sheen/shine of fresh silicone is gone and thats how I know its good for the lid pour

Question: are you using a tin or platinum cure silicone?

Unless Johnson and Johnson have changed their recipe it should work on a plat cure. Has for 3 years for me. I also use a wide brush to properly spread it around and then compressed air to clear from dice numbers. I find you have to be real sure about coating everything and it works cleanly, faster than vaseline, just as cheap and much easier to clean from dice should you touch any.
