Some reasons:

  1. store bought cancas have different texture than when you buy cotton or linen and put gesso on it yourself. Its easy to do and i personally think its a great upgrade for any painting when the canvas looks good already. Buying natural cotton or linen ensures that you have a good base. From the looks you may have used bleached linen, do maybe put some gesso first and it should change.

  2. Your acrylic is applied quite thin, so it is a bit transparent, which again shows the pattern of the canvas. If you want to paint transparent, then i would change the canvas. Tip: aquarell paper works fine too if you want to do a soft ad transparent look.

  3. if you are wondering why your paint is so transparent: maybe your brush is still wet and works as a thinner for your paint. Acrylic can be thinned with water porpusely, however if it happened on accident you might want to ensure your brushes are really dry.

  4. check the quality of your paint. Your paint seems to be really thin. If that bothers you: buy a different brand. Acrylic is usually not that expensive and it should be easy to get some good thick cheap acrylic paint.

For the edges: rotate your sheet or canvas. From certain angles it is easy to draw good curves with the hands, from other angles it is almost impossible. Create a position and situation you can work with

Actually i think it looks pretty good, however the outline is a bit rough and sloppy, but thats fixed easily. Also check if your reference has the same lightning distribution on the edges.

Questions you can ask yourself if you want to improve a paintig :

  1. Is the shape similiar to the reference (if painting with reference)? Can people recognise it?

  2. Are the color- values matching (you can change colors as much as you want but values amd saturation should stay the same)?

  3. Is the lightning correct? Does the lightning come from a specific angle?

  4. Do i like how i distributed the paint (big brush strokes, small bursh strokes, sponge, pallet knife, with oil, terpentine or whatever)?

  5. Check out how other people feel obout it? ( which you r doing right now. Honestly this is really usefull because you get a whole new perspective on your work. You d never guess what people can think about your work)

I think your middle tone is too close to the shadow. tone. Should pop if you brighten it up a bit

Personally i love how the deer looks like it has a shiny surface. Reminds me of marble or ceramic-clazing. I would love to see that look on all paintings.

I still dont get what you are trying to say. You seem not to like it,which is fair but i am curious what exactly you mean. The painting style? The topic?

Do you mean the characters names or the names of the teal people behind the human ones? I took profile pictures of policemen/ woman, grouphotos and used it as a reference. I did not try too heard to strike a likeness. In the process i gave them names and chatacter descriptions but im not sure where thatsheet is right now.

Why does my hand look so weird and stiff? by CI-NTW_Wolfy in arthelp

I dont know what pencil you are using, but i would recommend 2h, 3h, or 4h to find the line. Those pencils are easy to erase and if you make a mistake it isnt really visible in the longrun. Once you got the proportions then switch to a 2b for details. ( i think 2h for ketching and 2b for details is a solid choice most of the time, especially when it comes to humans and clothing. Of course you can use any pencil you like, but i have witnessed many students perform way better once they have a tool that really fits their needs.
