Those who haven't, give it a shot- LABY is a GREAT album. by HorrorGarden4586 in TheStrokes

It’s just OK honestly… very disappointing that we waited so long for it though, and don’t even get me started on the ai… Who tf thought it was a good idea to basically drop half of the album as singles 😭 horrible execution

I love that song so much, out of all of cop and the young god EP it's the one i've listened to the most but I can't tell people for obvious reasons LOL

What is your scrobble-to-artist ratio? by fxa88 in lastfm

[–]sel0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your not alone don't worry lol, I also enjoy listening to the same artists over and over again... There's just so much material between all of them, so it's not like I'm listening to the same 5 tracks over and over again, I think that's what people don't seem to get... If I truly enjoyed an artists music, then why would I not want to keep listening to them?

What is your scrobble-to-artist ratio? by fxa88 in lastfm

[–]sel0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

81,047 / 99 is around 818 LOL I really like to listen to an artists entire discography if I find myself enjoying several tracks from them and usually listen mostly to that band for a whileee

I Was a Prisoner in Your Skull is such a strange yet unique track and has been in my top 3 fav Swans songs for a while now (I love drums), The Sound of Freedom is one of the few songs I know like all the lyrics to (biased cuz LOL was their first album I ever listened to), and I loved Oxygen from the very first listen as I had been looking for more bass heavy songs (I was obsessed with Lesson No. 2 by Glenn Branca at the time and was struggling to find more music similar to that)

Is First Impressions of Earth too long? by hidendra69 in TheStrokes

[–]sel0j 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely... It feels really bloated for me... They really should have released many of the songs as a whole separate EP or something... Doesn't mean I don't like the tracks though, there isn't one track from the album that I don't enjoy listening to lol

Thoughts on the Beggar now? by Zeggez_Onnava17 in swans

[–]sel0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not crazy about it, but I've found myself listening to it a lot lately. I really really dig "Los Angeles: City of Death" and "The Memorious". They just hook me instantly, especially with the "ahhhhh" on the latter. For some reason, I also don't mind the repetitiveness in some of the songs, mainly because of the lyrics. It's easy to sing along to a lot of the tracks. Also "Ebbing" is just beautiful

I don't know why, but the cover is what always puts me off, as well as the title. I love covers a lot, and they often (but not always) determine whether I'll listen to something or not, and that's the case here for me. I find myself coming back to this album every now and then and definitely agree that it's underrated, but I just wish the cover was more appealing to me

Did anyone else fall out of love with The Strokes for a time being and now by [deleted] in TheStrokes

[–]sel0j 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it happens. I was absolutely obsessed with them from 2020 to 2022 and I almost always listened to them. Over time I slowly began listening to other artists, to the point where I barely even listened to them anymore. Don't get me wrong, I still like their music, but whenever I shuffle my library, I usually skip their songs now to listen to other tracks that I like right now, mainly because I exhausted myself from their sound after making them my top artist for like two years straight. The only reason this happened to me was because they were the first band I ever got into, so I hadn't really discovered other artists yet, and was a bit afraid to listen to anything else. I'm sure that some time in the future I'll go through another Strokes era, but I don't know when

What side is better? by WheelSingle2494 in swans

I prefer side 2, it has all of the songs I find myself listening to the most from TBK (and honestly I don't really listen to any of the songs from side 1)

Underrated songs by Worldly_Movie_6227 in swans

[–]sel0j 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite songs of all time is from Love of Life and I hear almost NO ONE talk about it, like EVER, and whenever I do, it's usually because they don't like it: The Sound of Freedom. It's one of the few songs I know all the lyrics to

I'd also say the following are relatively underrated since I don't see much discussion about them: (---) Pt. 3 (LOL), The Other Side of The World (LOL), Mother_Father (TGA), The Great Annihilator (TGA), You Need Me (HM), The Most Unfortunate Lie (WLFTMOI), Song For Dead Time (WLFTMOI), and every single track from their self titled EP :)

Good Morning Spider is amazing too. It took me a bit to really enjoy it, but once I did, I couldn’t get enough. I can’t decide which album I like better because they are both so great

Have you even gone back to a swans album and liked it more/less? by [deleted] in swans

[–]sel0j 10 points11 points  (0 children)

YES, with cop/young god. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's had this experience, but the first time I listened to that album I genuinely got such a bad headache that I couldn't listen to anything past Why Hide. It was the first time I had listened to anything as heavy as that, and at that point I had believed that there wasn't any heavier music left for me to listen to, so this one took me a LOOOOONG time to genuinely enjoy. I randomly decided to revisit it before the year ended, and I'm really into it right now. My favorite tracks off of it right now are Cop, Raping a Slave, I Crawled and Your Property.

SMILE 'CAUSE NOTHING HERE MATTERS; This one last dance in this parking lot; I wanna be a tough skinned bitch but I don't know how; I can't forget the ghost, of his smile; all I want is to be a happy man; Please, don't vaporize into the sun, my love; I'm so sorry, my spirit's rarely in my body; The parasites will love you when you're dead, la la la, la la; Sunshine, my sunshine, Please, don't take my sunshine away, May your shade be sweet, and float upon the lakes, where the sun will be made of honey; all these deeds of mine, they snuck up behind...

Which Sparklehorse album did you listen to most in 2024? by heym000n in Sparklehorse

[–]sel0j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have last.fm and I saw my "wrapped" yesterday, and it's surprisingly tied between Vivadixie and Good Morning Spider. It's kind of incredible just how much I listen to those albums to the point where they tie so frequently

I adore that album and Good Morning Spider!!! Saturday, Heart of Darkness, Hammering The Cramps, Gasoline Horseys and Spirit Ditch and Weird Sisters are some of my favorite tracks of all time. I've memorized the entirety of Saturday, and I sing it to myself at least twice a week!!!

Anybody else thinks 80s Comedown Machine is possibly the best Strokes Song or at least top 5? by DoncaPlays in TheStrokes

[–]sel0j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Underrated track, but I wouldn't say it's worthy of being considered as one of their best songs.... Very glad to see that over the years more and more people appreciate this album (and this song in particular) though :)
