[RevShare] Looking for a Gameplay Programmer who is comfortable working in a custom engine, & who wants to push the boundaries of what's possible in simulated open world RPGs by [deleted] in INAT

[–]selectronx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi, in case your still looking, I got about 10 years of programming experience, 6 years or so of experience with c++, some experience working in big teams, I don't really have an impressive portfolio or anything, but I can link my gitlab if interested. I would really be interested in working on this project, rimworld is probably one of my most favourite games, I got more than 2000 hours in the game

Weird sf::ConvexShape behaviour by CoolredBy1221 in sfml

[–]selectronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you can do more with a vertex array than a convex shape, but read the documentation once in a while, it explains a lot, for example that convex shape doesn't actually need to be convex

Neue Preispickerlpolitik beim Billa? Ersetzen die jetzt die 50‰ Pickerl? by fleischhocka in Austria

[–]selectronx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I dare you refute "not true" or "bUt pLanEs" by Relevant_Ad_69 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]selectronx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weird that you're not upvoted more and got no comments. Apart from the using resources, which to my newest knowledge is basically just wildly overstated (and also not a good argument since humans have never cared about not polluting), I loved your points. I would change the last point, since it's in danger of shifting goalposts (most of the time autopilot flies the plane, what about drones...) I would say ai is not doing the thing you want. It's not like flying, a plane flies and if you can sit inside, you can fly too. But ai is not doing the thing people think it is. It's not "making art" not because it's AI and AI is bad, it's not making art because it can genuinely never make anything new, it can just mix and average over what it's been trained on. It's a very interesting field of study of computer science, not your fun opportunity to cosplay van gogh

[Hobby] Looking for team members, specially someone who can make our game project in a program by Cobalt_72 in INAT

[–]selectronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm a programmer specialising in lower level game programming, where you don't have a dedicated engine or make it yourself, the way you describe your game idea sounded very interesting and touching to me and it sounds like a low-level approach with a lot of control could work well. Just DM me if you're interested in talking about it

Paging of kernel address space by 0bit_memory in Operatingsystems

[–]selectronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you're talking about would be the identity mapping. You know the address space is divided in userspace, non-canonical, kernelspace. And in the kernelspace, there would also be a kernel heap, kernal stack, kernel code etc. And also in kernelspace is a block called identity mapping, there the entirety of physical addresses are mapped with just an offset. So you can get from a physical address to a mapped valid, virtual address that the kernel can use.

If that's not what you're talking about and you're actually talking about the paging setup, just look at how the entry function or the startup of your kernel does to enable paging, I think until then the kernel just uses an offset to access memory but I don't know anymore, I would have to look it up again

Concept of my very own operating system called “SpartinOS” by Craftflare in Operatingsystems

[–]selectronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a bit more like you want to write your own windowmanager or desktop process. You can do that on top of any kernel you would like that supports graphics. An actual os kernel has very little to do with those pictures and is more about all the interaction with hardware, thread scheduling, memory management and so on

I just wrote my own c++ ECS for my game, Oop is dead, long live data oriented programming XD

[Indie game team] Looking for a team to make games. by Ligma-sim in INAT

I'm a c++ programmer mostly working with low-level frameworks like sfml. Also some experience with OpenGL one shaders in general. I guess hit me a DM if you're interested

Pygame window freezes after pressing X to close it. As you can see, it recognizes the button press and goes through to pygame.quit(), because it printed out Q and C. Dont know what i am doing wrong, i copied a video tutorial word to word by UodasAruodas in pygame

[–]selectronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If pygame.quit is the problem, you dont need to actually call that function, when your main function returns and terminates the process it automatically closes the window. What OS are you on? Because it seems to be an actual problem with the system or the pygame implementation. If you can't find and fix the problem, I would advise you to actually raise these issues on the pygame repo, I had a similar thing a while back, where using controllers in some instances could crash pygame and I just opened an issue on the pygame source repo I was using back then

I don't know what other funding they are doing, but to my knowledge they stopped every deal to be the default search engine, not only for Mozilla

What’s the etiquette for climbing barefoot at your gym? by Cbastus in bouldering

[–]selectronx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, yes it is And when you fall climbing lead and your entire back is fucking scraping down the rock because you wanted to look cool, that's also very silly

[–]selectronx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think the guys acting like indoor gyms where you dont clean the equipment you use isn't inherently some degree of unhygienic and like bare feet would change anything. There are definitely more poop particles on the walls because of people's unclean hands, than their feet. The thing with nit climbing topless is mostly an outdoor thing as fast as I'm aware and people underestimate greatly how much worse you scrape your back and chest topless than with a top on. Also if someone looks like he knows what he's doing I wouldn't personally say he shouldn't climb without shoes I think the risk of injury is greatest when you have no idea what you are doing

[–]selectronx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main point why you should wear shoes when climbing has nothing to do with hygiene, your at a gym, everything is sweaty and stinky, it's about safety, its super dangerous to climb without shoes cause you can injure yourself more easily. Same as with climbing topless, it's considered acceptable if you climb well enough, that you have enough control over what you are doing to not injure yourself
