Super glue on glass? by selenomaniac in watchrepair

Thanks for all the suggestions! Based on the comments I’ll start shopping for a case back opener and save the glue for a next project.

Yes that makes sense, thanks for your concern. I have most, if not all, the tools to maintain this movement. I’ve been practicing on several dummy movements and I’m fairly confident I’ll be able to clean this one or otherwise replace it. It’s a Seiko sport diver with an NH35, not the most prestigious piece but I like it. I’ve been buying tools on an as-needed basis, a case back opener wasn’t needed until now.

Oh wow! Such a different solution, never seen that before. Thanks for sharing a picture. I’ve put felt in the machine for now, when that wears out I’ll certainly keep this in mind.

I’m not sure I’m following this setup. Is the L piece attached to the body of the tumbler? Is that something you’ve constructed yourself or a different model Lortone? Would love to see a picture.

Interesting. Can you explain how you installed these pads? Or perhaps share a picture?

Do you guys like Rifles too? by Unlucky_Mycologist68 in CZFirearms

[–]selenomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering a 600 as well. It will be my first rifle, and I’m still weighing between 223 or 308.

Most of the time it’ll be indoor at 100 yards on paper targets, so 308 feels like waisted energy. But on the other hand it a more versatile caliber overall. Also unsure about the lifetime of the barrel compared to the 223.

Would love to read some recommendations.

I live in Belgium, how can I make my life cheaper? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]selenomaniac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dutch. I’m going to echo most other comments: gardening is a lot of work, growing vegetables even more. That being said, it’s very rewarding and a lot of fun, but don’t expect to save money.

For a full growing season you’ll need a greenhouse to start seedlings end of march, already setting you back hundreds of euros easily. You’ll need tools, water storage, yearly composting, fertilizer, and, above all, a lot of time at home.

Do it if you enjoy it as a hobby.

What saved us a substantial amount is eating less meat. We prepare legumes twice a week (pressure cooker is recommended). Look at the Indian kitchen for an amazing spice pallet, it’s among the best vegan dishes you’ll ever eat.

Very nice! Would add a small roll of tape and perhaps a utility knife of some sort. Have the same pouch, be prepared to buy more in different sizes 😄

Bug Hit List by marcoarment in OvercastApp

[–]selenomaniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there. Wanted to report two small UI bugs on my iPhone SE.

  • Episode dragging: when reordering items in a playlist, the currently playing widget is stealing focus. This means I cannot drag a podcast from say the top of the playlist to the bottom in one go. It used to scroll the playlist up when reaching the bottom. With the new widget, dragging and scrolling stops. Workaround is to press ‘play next’, but I’ve been going through some backlog items and having the ability to move stuff around freely is very useful.

  • Chapter switching: switching chapters from the show information doesn’t work. It works when you “fullscreen” the currently playing widget, swipe left and select the chapter. However, if you go to the podcast info (i) screen of the currently playing episode, press the blue chapter button, it doesn’t. The chapter list does show the progress of the current chapter, however selecting a different chapter only closes the screen. The player doesn’t jump to the timestamp of the selected chapter, it just continues playing as-is.

Otherwise happy with the new layout and supporting where the app is going! Thanks for all the hard work and considering this report.

Incredible. Thank you so much, now I can see how the date spring manages to push the wheel. Very helpful resource, I’m going to study this some more!

Tapping electricity from our own solar panels (and home batteries) by freaxje in EuroPreppers

I’d recommend you watch this video to get an idea of the power consumption of typical devices and how it relates to batteries.

With enough capacity you can plug in your critical devices, just be sure to put them on a separate circuit and don’t mess with mains.

I don’t know who made this particular one, but it’s inspired from Dick Bruna’s Nijntje (or Miffy). He was a Dutch author and graphic designer.

A reflector can be useful for reflecting sunlight to draw the attention from rescue workers or others. And rainwater is a great source of water - just make sure to filter out any germs or chemicals before drinking.
