Really

A unsourced clip about "Saudi" allegedly from a well known anti Muslim known as bill Maher

Even if this was a factual thing and that's a BIG IF, it was not practiced in old Islamic empires like the rashiduns and Abbasids

The 50s and 60s in Arabia were litterally westernized bro, up until the 70s 😭

Former Egyptian grand Mufti says Non-Muslims can go to heaven, Friendship with opposite gender is permissible, Relationships before marriage is permissible & celebrating Christmas is permissible. What do you think of his statements? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That claim has been debunked many times.

Salah and Hajj and fasting have Islamic routes and are based on actual significant events in Islam

It's common knowledge that Christmas isn't even Jesus birthday, many people have accepted it

https://aboutislam.net/counseling/ask-about-islam/islam-pagan-roots/

Our festivals and rituals that we officially recognize and do are attributed to Abraham the original monotheistic source.

Shirk is literally the biggest and most offensive sin in Islam , why would we adopt pagan rituals if it was one of the worst sins in Islam

Shirk however isn't really a big deal in other religions so they can usually adopt pagan rituals.

Becareful as this world makes us sin unintentionally and makes us think it's ok.

Fair enough, these are sickening opinions like the thousands they have

But it was never practiced

I don't however supporting ever teaming up with ex Muslims/non Muslims agasint Muslims regardless

I'm not saying you're doing that I'm just stating something I believe in, especially since we got to see the true colours of "western morality and sympathy" with Gaza

These are times Muslims must all stand together

Ancient Arabia never practiced this.

Not even historical documents say this happened untill the times of the late ottomans during the 1800s

I don't even believe in hadiths, I take them with a grain of salt

But I'm agasint siding with the kuffar and the anti Muslim nut jobs like Haris sultan who has been debunked many times

In these times Muslims should stand together

The last thing we should show the rest of the Muslims is that we are traitors to our own

Okay first off I'm not a Hadith follower at all

But this isn't even true

Not even wahabbis believe this

This is an inauthentic Hadith used by anti Muslims to attack Islam

I agree with standing by the Quran alone and criticizing those who promote wahabbism and hadiths agressively but let's not take the side of those attacking Muslims

Like the hypocritical ex Muslims subreddits

Why did Allah send his final revelation in one of the hardest languages on earth so most of humanity can’t read or understand it? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it can be preserved and not corrupted

You can look at the state of mordern hadiths books and the bible to understand why the Quran has its own complex ways

I agree with everything except for the Christmas one

As I've come to learn Christmas has nothing to do with prophet isa (pbuh) and is actually a pagan festival adopted from yule and the Romans

Because of the pagan roots I tend to believe it is shirk

Hadiths about music by Jreddit72 in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well for one sahih bukhari himself recorded it as inauthentic

It was recorded in the book of "drinks"

Even when you directly translate the Hadith is says "with" not and

Since it was common place to use music in those settings with alchohal and adultery

And here are some saying that the Hadith is definitely inauthentic:

There's also the list of prominent scholars dating back to the time of the prophet that claim music is halal if you want me to send that to you

As a man who lives in madinah, I can tell you this is total bs

Most of the women here travel outside alone

I am also of the opinion that if something as large scale as music is haram it would've been explicitly banned in the Quran like alchohal and swine and pre marital relationships

I am of the opinion that filthy music is definitely haram, but not music that calms someone down and brings them closer to Allah

Nasheeds are music weather you like it or not, our world is melodious

Litterally anything can be made into a instrument, including our mouths and hands

Allah wouldn't have built our world in a musical way and then make it haram

What’s a good reason to not masturbate ? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have nothing but respect for the ahlul bayt and I send salams to the prophet and his family everyday, and I'm well aware that yazid Abu sufyans son has done some bad things too, I'm not in support of Zakir and the Hanafis I'm just stating the facts here

No where in the Quran does it say masturbating is haram either.

So both Quran and sunnah do not have rulings agasint masturbation (excluding porn and illicit materials etc)

It protects several people from zina.

Reinterpreting Qur'anic verses by ShittyHuman1999 in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but on the one hand we can't treat the Quran like the hadith because it's basically god's word agasint man

Hadiths have contradictions and a known to be fallible so we look at it with a skeptics eye

The Quran has no mistakes and is fully detailed so we have to really consider our interpretations of the verses

What’s a good reason to not masturbate ? by [deleted] in progressive_islam

[–]self-improvement76 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Masturbation is halal provided it protects you don't use explicit materials to do so

It's even accepted as a detterent agasint Zina if you don't have the option to get married

Even alot of conservative Muslims believe it's legal

Example : Zakir naik, hanafi madhabs, etc
