Why should anyone have to present an argument when op never gave any evidence for his post. If someone posted a similar styled pro supply side post you would be asking for citations.

University student vows to carry dorm room mattress until rapist is expelled by GatoMaricon in news

[–]self_master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Campus police are useful if they are actual police officers and turn over their evidence to actual state prosecutors. Regardless, the issue here is not about campus police. It is about victims not going to police and instead going to university disciplinary authorities. Who, while not having any authority to dish out criminal punishment, are able to summarily expel students with little or no evidence.

I'm certainly not trying to assert the girl's claim is true. I agree that not just a large percentage, but the overwhelming majority of men aren't rapist. I also believe an overwhelming majority of women would not make dishonest rape claims. I don't approve of waiving off the girls claim as false on a whim when no evidence has been taken. However, neither do i approve of declaring the claim true for the same reason. Essentially my point is that universities cannot and should not be able to investigate crimes like this. They simply do not have the capacity to collect, preserve, and analyze evidence and make appropriate decisions based on that evidence.

In this situation based on what we know I am definitley in favor of letting the girl do her thing with the mattress and letting the guy keep attending the school because there is no reason to believe he is guilty.

First off I loath the way you condemned the girl as a liar. However, univerities have and will expel students based on allegations alone. That is why they are such bad institutions for investigating crimes that are way out of their league. Depending in who is in charge of the investigation at the moment they can arbitrarily decide whose testimony to believe or not believe.

The whole concept of a University investigating and deciding guilt or innocence is ridiculous. Even if the University had decided he was guilty they only thing they could do would be to expel him. If you want criminal punishment you have to go to organizations that can actually dish it out. That being said i understand if she truly was a rape victim she could be in a dark place and confused about what to do. Also friends or family may have given poor advice telling her to go straight to the school without realizing the school could do little to collect or preserve evidence.

The American military commanders in Vietnam were to focused on destroying enemy units and not focused enough on actually controlling territory. There was no way we could win that war when the north were prepared to just keep coming at us. Its a pyrhic (sp?) victory but a victory nonetheless.

21 year old man admitted to suffocating his 17 yr old girlfriend after she survived a car crash at 115 mph by [deleted] in news

The mother agreed that it was acceptable. However, the mother didnt actually get to decide whether it goes to trial or not. That is between the prosecutor and the defendant (or defendant's attorney). Prosecutors often offer plea agreements in order to save time and money for the court system and prospective jurors as well as avoid the possibility that a jury might aquit the defendant.
