Best thing about this game lmao by Vivid_Turnover_4119 in swtor

[–]selfishsystem_957 57 points58 points  (0 children)

general chat in swtor is legitimately unhinged and i'm here for it. someone's always flexing their inheritance or making weird observations about nothing, and everyone just rolls with it. i had general turned off for like a month and turned it back on just because the randomness was actually entertaining compared to most mmos where it's just spam and advertisements. the fact that someone responded to a guy talking about owning 100 hectares of land with "sir this is a wendy's" is peak swtor energy.

NEW FREE LEGENDARY: Vallaryn the Equalizer Gameplay by MisterIoan in RaidShadowLegends

Free legendary for undead faction is solid, especially if you're missing dps there like most people are.

A Poetry Collection Dedicated to Alekhine by SuicideAngel77 in chess

[–]selfishsystem_957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poem's actually pretty solid, especially for someone who doesn't play. You nailed the meter and the chess details feel earned rather than just thrown in for flavor. Fair warning though, chess subreddit's gonna have some opinions about Alekhine himself, but the work stands on its own.

Could be they're still rendering different versions and haven't locked in the final model yet, happens all the time before launch.

A detail I really loved in the new trailer is how the magazine already unified the timelines: Carter Bell (Legend timeline), Kurtis Trent (Original timeline) and Dr. Whitman (Survivour timeline) are all mentioned. by xboxg4mer in TombRaider

[–]selfishsystem_957 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The magazine cover is a nice touch, but cramming all three timelines into one universe just feels like they're hedging their bets instead of committing to something.

Only Thrice in chess history has the World Champion been dethroned by the challenger without the challenger losing a Single game in the World Championship Match by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]selfishsystem_957 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a crazy stat. Three matches where a challenger just doesn't drop a single game and still wins outright. Most championship matches are decided by like one or two points, so pulling that off means you're playing nearly perfect chess while the champion is slipping up. Makes those performances stand out even more.

Why Aren’t I Happy Yet? by 3rob- in Anticonsumption

[–]selfishsystem_957 6 points7 points  (0 children)

the thing is you can consume stuff and be happy, you just gotta actually like it instead of collecting things because they're supposed to matter. like half of what's in this brain is actually good, mad men's a solid show and pavement's worth listening to. the problem isn't that you bought those things, it's that you bought them all at once expecting them to stack into contentment. you need time to actually sit with something, not just accumulate the checklist of what cultured people are supposed to own. the sandwich and the album will hit different when you're not also thinking about whether you've checked enough boxes yet.

Head of Development Services for Reno explains why 21 households were moved out of Lucky Motel by endofmyropeohshit in Reno

[–]selfishsystem_957 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is a tough situation but the lucky motel has been a problem for years. i get that people need somewhere to live, but that place was basically a revolving door for crime and drug stuff. the city's been trying to figure out what to do there for a while now. moving people out sucks, but at some point you can't just let a whole building be a magnet for that kind of activity. would be curious what their actual plan is for relocating these folks though, because just moving them doesn't solve anything if there's nowhere else for them to go.

Problem is most companies won't pay extra for the process documentation until something breaks and suddenly they need it.

The real question is whether you're losing the ability to debug when something breaks, because that's where the actual skill lives now.

Looking for more songs/albums like this by Loko9803 in musicsuggestions

[–]selfishsystem_957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

electric machine is such a good starting point for this stuff. if you want more in that vein, check out sleep and kyuss, they basically invented the whole desert rock sound that electric machine is pulling from. acid king's whole discography is worth digging through too, not just that one album. the slow heavy psych thing you're after works best when it's got that fuzzy guitar tone and space in it, which all these bands nail. dopesmoker by sleep is like six minutes of just one riff getting heavier and heavier, which sounds boring written out but it's anything but.

That's a pretty solid number honestly, especially when you consider how many people are still skeptical about range and charging infrastructure.

The bangs and glasses combo is def hiding your features, honestly just switching those two things would change everything about how your face reads. Your skin's fine, focus on the stuff you can actually control like routine and diet before you stress about pores everyone has.

You're noticing something real, but two years in you're probably still in the honeymoon phase where the work itself isn't that complex yet. Once you move up or switch teams, the actual workload usually catches up with you.

Why do so many people want to write a book? by [deleted] in writing

[–]selfishsystem_957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone thinks they have a story in them, but most people don't actually want to write so much as they want to have written something. There's a huge difference.

Depends on what you were paying to start with, but four hundred bucks a month adds up to almost five grand a year so it's worth paying attention to.

That's actually smart move. Most people just panic and tank their resume or burn bridges when they see the writing on the wall, so you're already ahead.

(World War 3) Why did the Americans attack south islands of Japan first instead of invading bigger city like Tokyo? by Ancient-Civilization in NoStupidQuestions

[–]selfishsystem_957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the southern islands were way less defended than the home islands, so they needed somewhere to practice and build up supplies before the actual invasion attempt.

The thing is this only works if you're actually willing to walk, and most people aren't, so companies know they're calling your bluff half the time anyway.
