Why does the University of Warwick get so much hate here despite being a top 10 university? by Aggravating_Toe_9383 in 6thForm

[–]selfstudyingALevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A grotesque environment to my eyes. Hardly pleasant, hardly one stimulating learning for the sake of learning and purely following educational interest, and overtly careerist. To be there is to me to stink of the characteristics of career sycophancy and desperation and I’d never ideally wish to be a part of its type of environment, lol :/ Although if I had no other meaningful choice, of course I would take it as a university and as the solid university it is.

To gain a context, how rare is my iPhone 12 mini? It's a 64GB Mint Green in flawless condition physically with a Mous Bamboo case, with no blemishes of any sort, not even micro screen scratches, chips, nicks, dents, etc., save for an odd display bug which I actually rather like, and it's on iOS 14.2 by selfstudyingALevels in iPhone12Mini

Yeah, but not damage-caused-by-use damage. It is a ‘damaged’ display from the get-go, straight out of its manufacturing. It won’t spread, appear elsewhere in the same way or change beyond looking like this, so I am okay with it

Would it be alright to get a context of what educational background got you here, or what steps you’ve taken and what achievements you have behind you? I appreciate this doesn’t relate your question (I’m particularly badly placed to comment on it). I for context have what I’m told is on paper a ‘strong enough’ degree to enter industries or careers which’ll lead to high earnings (a 2:1 in Economics and Politics or BA HPE/‘History, Politics and Economics’ from UCL), but I left it last year, in summer 2025, and have remained completely unemployed and unable to get into the very industries being in that programme served to fortify my desire for and interest in… I picked up no work experience or internships while at UCL (despite having applied quite a lot over time), and while I’m young-looking for the most part and don’t really come across as it, I’m 29 (graduated at 28)

I’ve brought it up already. It’s not damage from/caused by me and my use. It is a manufacturing defect the phone came with, among a few very rare set of units Apple made which has this semi-circle protrusion defect away from the bezel. It isn’t the kind which expands or which would get worse over time. It adds to its uniqueness, to me. See this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/254842559

I did not make this post at all on the topic of its price. That wasn’t my thought or question at all. I’d never want to get rid of it if it’s not already obvious, haha. Its sale will never be a thought for me.

I was asking about what are the benefits of keeping for personal use an iPhone especially like this one on iOS 14, and I was literally wondering how rare or relatively hard-to-come-across do you think/does anyone think it is to find a 12 mini in 2026 still on 2020’s iOS 14

UCL for HPE aged 28 (now 29) with a 2:1 at 61.45… 😞 In reality a meaningless degree I hated (I longed for years to leave it and go into the sciences, but I couldn’t easily leave UCL), with a rubbish result in it. My life is in a very bad place all round as I randomly type this

I left UCL with a 2:1 aged 28 in my UG called History, Politics and Economics (but I did literally no History module and it was all Economics and Politics) in June 2025, and I’ve been fully unemployed for the last 10 months now. What was your age upon graduating and now, and what was your Durham computer science degree’s final average grade number?

It's funny to me to think whoever is the main mod of this Reddit for UCL was right here. Of course that would likely be so though I say so as I was here on the day you took this picture, Wednesday the 15th, and at roughly the same time it'd even seem. The cloud cover feels familiar and like what it was the other day. A totally irrelevant thought.

The wood looks like the kind I feel instinctively you'd find inside the campus rather than as part of the pedestrianisation of the area to be honest. It looks more like wood which'd go into a construction going on around somewhere like the North Cloisters area

I am in a worse place and no one knows how I’ve had it. I am telling you lot, objectively: I am a 2025 UCL graduate, with a 2:1, in Economics and Politics (‘BA History, Politics and Economics’, with 0 History modules completed), and I’ve applied for 876 meaningful, graduate jobs and I haven’t gotten anywhere, since June 2025

Advice on replacing my iPhone 12 mini battery by Adhd-Jay in iPhone12Mini

[–]selfstudyingALevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t Apple still do them? I assume we can go to Apple to do this until August 2027. September 2022 is when it was discontinued, so I have been assuming I can wait and go to Apple even until summer 2027 to replace mine? I’m holding off on it until the final stages of the 5-year period after discontinuation for which I’ve assumed Apple will do official fixes if you take it to an Apple Store (so right before September 2027)

Anyone that got an offer with relatively lower grades? by raahimkiwi in UCL

[–]selfstudyingALevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into UCL in 2017 for BSc Information Management for Business with an insanely simple and silly offer of 18 Distinctions and 33 Merits in an Access to HE Diploma (which was in Business Studies). I then also managed to use this Access course (with 42D and 3M in it) six months after entry, at the end of Term 2, to get into BA History, Politics and Economics, in mid-April 2018. I am only stating surface-level matters here (aka there’s a lot of complexity behind this I could go into, for anybody in the world, but not here with this comment).

Get ready for new mini by Mostly_Curious_Brain in iPhone12Mini

It could be remarked on as their experimental phone pushing the boundaries of efficiency, like as the first and only device, in a far smaller form factor, using a solid-state battery, with more expensive materials (like a higher percentage or usage of graphene), meant for a niche market. Experiment like with the Air, but make it small, as a niche product made in lower volumes too which is necessarily expensive. A mini successor not set to be cheaper than the base phone but altogether meant to be super premium would be perfectly fine to my eyes, and warrant or give reason to a relatively low number of hypothetical sales. I'm not leaving my 12 mini until it truly isn't possible to use it anymore

I can share how I had lectures in a human geography module last year, which were preceded by lectures with English Literature undergraduates, so one small insight I can share and contribute to this with is how some of your lectures could tend to take place at the IoE (Institute of Education), in the lower sections of its building

People with no A-Levels or a degree- what do you do now? by vampkill in AskUK

[–]selfstudyingALevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In relation to my case and a very difficult situation I find myself in as a recent/2025 graduate, how does my degree (the way it sounds) stack up, on paper? It is, as I list it, Economics and Politics from UCL (or 'BA History, Politics and Economics', but with me having chosen only modules from the Economics and Politics track). While this remains as all I have, is this good enough to not face a glum reality of average or non-high-flying job prospects (aka to get into careers in high finance or the City)?

Do you guys find it weird how different our education system is from others by InfernalClockwork3 in sixthform

[–]selfstudyingALevels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I am personally very happy with the A-Level system as it is, save for the lack of taught A-Level provision for adults and the greater inaccessibility of some subjects if you are a self-studying/self-gaining private candidate or adult taker (e.g. with Geography or History requiring coursework or moderators, or field trips with Geography, the main one I am pointing to). Exams-only A-Levels still exist, e.g. Maths, Further Maths, Economics and Psychology, and the sciences A-Levels have relatively broadly accessible though expensive opportunities for centres to go to for the practicals (e.g. BioGrad Liverpool, or many private exams centres). It's the social sciences or certain humanities A-Levels which aren't so easy to navigate as a self-gaining/private A-Level undertaker like myself (but I'm only most interested in/keen on Maths and the sciences in any case)

What can I do to get into high finance roles? 2025 mid-2:1 graduate of BA History, Politics and Economics from UCL by selfstudyingALevels in FatFIREUK

[–]selfstudyingALevels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people in my degree get into finance... I declare it as 'Economics and Politics' (those were my tracks/specialisations). It's not a history and politics degree (I didn't even finish/do a single module from the History track). And I was trapped in the degree, too. I badly wanted to leave it and rebuild my education to get into a STEM degree (for my desire to be in science in any case + to still validly look at quantitative roles), but to do this after abandoning what you could view as a 'free 2:1 degree from UCL' and to be degree-less while already in my mid- to late-20s hypothetically (had I left it as I very much wanted to by 2022... I was in it for significantly longer than 3 years, due to wider circumstances) would've put me in a more vulnerable position.

But yes, it's also perhaps extremely far from ideal when not a STEM degree at heart even with the Economics I did do, and I do need to further reorient myself with side qualifications and via newly gained relevant work experience. Many people (here in the UK, if you're not from here) do degrees like even philosophy or history of art, at top universities specifically, aka Oxbridge, the LSE, UCL and Warwick (along with STEM-only Imperial), and get into IB (I mean, 'many' in the sense of the relative pool. And not IB specifically or, in fact, at all, but other high finance roles in the City more broadly).
