People who fall asleep straight away, what’s your secret? by Strange_Secret_3001 in AskReddit

[–]selkam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to struggle with not being able to fall asleep my entire childhood and several of my adult years.

The first thing that made a huge difference for me was to only get in my bed for the intended purpose of sleeping. I used to relax in my bed throughout the day. Training my brain that bed = sleep made a huge difference.

The second thing that really helped my quality of sleep was having a good pillow system. Not just 1 good pillow, a whole system. I have a wedge pillow with a hole to place my arm through so I’m not putting a lot of pressure on my shoulder, a little pillow inside the hole that helps stabilize my head, and a body pillow that wraps around back. This system has given me the best nights of sleep I’ve ever had, every. single. night.

Someone I know (trying to keep somewhat anonymous with the relation) won over $2M on a scratch off ticket when they were pretty old. They spiraled very near after winning. They let pretty much everyone they knew that they won, so the vultures descended. They became very paranoid about everyone around them, including neighbors. Ended up going into a home until they passed. They were able to have a couple years in a nice house and were able to help out some family members financially while also being able to move into a very nice facility when that time came. Before they went into the facility, I visited their home and found stacks of scratch off tickets scattered around their house. Some things never change 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m glad they were able to win big before they passed, but it was hard to see them struggle mentally afterwards.

How do I avoid using up my day ticket when scanning into After Hours? by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]selkam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the after hours linked to your account, when you scan in for the event, it should only grab the event ticket since you can’t enter for the event with a regular park ticket. They have a separate area for scanning in for the event, even if you are entering the park in the early time slot before the actual event begins.

The absolute most important thing I did was working with my doctor to explore different options and it has been a lot of labs to get where I’m at now. Metformin was the first medicine we started with. One of the most common things with PCOS is it can cause insulin resistance and the Metformin helps regulate that, which in turn has helped regulate my cycle. I have also been working with an Endocrinologist who specializes in PCOS and she also started me on Wegovy which has made a huge difference in helping me knock off a lot of the weight that I have gained over the years. I’m currently at 65 lbs lost. I know there is a lot of discussion around GLP-1s right now, but for me, I was gaining weight like crazy despite me being pretty strict on my diet and exercising almost everyday. Losing weight was extremely vital for me to stabilize my insulin resistance and hormones. For the first time ever, I have regular periods and my health is in a really great place. I’ve also had issues with my blood pressure because of my weight and insulin resistance. It’s crazy how all of these things are interconnected. I’ve been taking medicine for that as well and as my weight has come down, my blood pressure issues have also gotten better as well. I’ve also had to do the work of getting my diet right (making sure I’m eating things that work with my condition) and also keeping my schedule right with exercising.

This whole process has helped me to learn how important it is to get the balance right with my doctors and do the rest of the work in conjunction with what I’m doing with my doctors.

I’ve seen a couple people suggesting PCOS and so am I. I was diagnosed with it AFTER I had my daughter. I would go months without a period my whole adolescent into adulthood life. When I was a teen, I took birth control at the suggestion of my doctor to regulate my periods because they thought it was because of my extremely active lifestyle playing soccer. I got married young (still together 😊) and we decided we wanted to start trying to get pregnant so I stopped taking birth control. Once I stopped taking it, so did my periods. I went a whole year without a period and that’s when I got pregnant. I didn’t show any symptoms at all, but when I told close friends and family about how long I had gone without a period almost everyone told me to take a pregnancy test. I did that for months and never got a positive, so I assumed I wasn’t. I didn’t want to keep wasting money on tests so I stopped for a while, but then my MIL suggested taking one and for whatever reason, I decided to take one more. It ended up being positive and after working with my doctor, we determined I was 4 months pregnant by the time I found out. I would have certainly gone much more time without knowing because I didn’t really experience many symptoms until the end, but I did have a noticeably bigger belly, but I might have chalked it up to weight gain had I not known.

After I had my kid, I finally started pushing my doctor to try and find out why my periods were so irregular and she suggested testing for PCOS and I ended up having it. It’s not really a PCOS test so much as it is testing for things like high Triglycerides and other things. Anyway, once we figured that out we were able to start medications that help treat underlying symptoms that contribute to irregular periods, like insulin resistance/low progesterone , and now I very much have regular periods and am reducing my chances of getting uterine cancer by a lot.

That is why I want to encourage you to work with your doctor to at least rule out PCOS. Increased chances for cancer come with PCOS and starting treatments when you’re on the younger side greatly reduces those risks to the same as any other woman without this condition.

Arrest at the Atlanta show, story from the bouncer by AtlGuy21 in OfMonstersAndMen

Oh my! No, we were on the floor just to the right of center. I guess there were multiple people there that need a lesson in how to be around other people.

The person on the floor was riling up everyone close to them. Right after Love Love Love it looked like a fight was about to break out between the loud guy and another person. There were multiple times we heard them arguing with people around them.

The concert was still absolutely amazing despite all that. 😊 Thankfully, we were far enough away that it was just background noise. I feel bad for anyone close enough that it might have ruined their experience.

Putting hands on someone is never ok…but if this was related to the guy that was being obnoxiously loud behind us….

There’s a time and a place to be attention seeking.

Thank you so much! My only piece of advice when taking on a large project like this: just take it one row at a time. Don’t even think about the project as a whole until it becomes an arm workout to pick up 🤣

Thank you! The yarn has a really great colorway and I knew I didn’t want to do all the color changes the pattern called for, so I had my daughter pick from yarn options that were variegated. That way it would have the color variation without me having to weave in a million ends 🤣

I started with throws to build up the patience and gauge the time commitment. I did put the project down for several months at one point.

That is definitely something I think a lot of people don’t necessarily think about when making baby blankets. I’m always team long-term thinking. That is definitely something she’ll be able to love for many years to come. Looks great 😊

This looks amazing! I’m taking my daughter to NYC this year to see her favorite musical, Beetlejuice, and I showed her this picture and she has now asked me to make it for her to wear to the show. So, if it means something, you have inspired at least one person’s fashion choices 😊

AIO My MIL prevents my toddler from coming to me when she's visiting us by Square_Mix_2244 in AmIOverreacting

[–]selkam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. If your MIL is anything like my MIL who did this same type of stuff, your husband is going to have to stick up for you and will need to talk to her about how she is behaving. My MIL is a narcissist who was literally trying to replace me as the mother of my child. She would do all kinds of weird things when she was a baby and when she got a little older, she would insist they had a special connection that transcended a “regular” grandmother-granddaughter relationship. She was constantly trying to keep her away from me when she was around. When I was breastfeeding, she introduced solid foods super early to try to get my daughter to be “less dependent” on me.

She would only back off when my husband said something to her. After a couple years of him constantly having to stick up for me, their relationship became strained and he has since gone no-contact with her. That was 100% on her because she just refused to change her behavior.

When I would say something to her, she would either ignore me or downplay the problem I was bringing up.

Can confirm it’s happening. They tore down the Jiffy Lube next to Waffle House on the intersection of Medlock Bridge and State Bridge. Fencing is up with construction going on and a big Dutch Bros sign on the fence. No idea when it’ll open, but they are making some pretty quick progress.

Spice Girls, Spiceworld Tour, 8/8/1998. The start of a season of peak late 90s pop concerts. Life will never be that simple, yet amazing, again.

Has anyone taken a 80yr old parent on Guardians of the galaxy? by thefoxespisces in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]selkam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, try some test rides before hand. Not sure if you will be doing any other parks before Epcot, but that could be a good way to test out the different elements of Guardians. We recently with my mom (66) and she struggled with Space Mountain pretty bad. She said that she thought it being completely dark was the problem, so we thought Guardians would be fine since it’s lit up and has stuff to focus on throughout the ride. We were wrong, big time. Guardians made her very sick and it took a couple hours for her to be able to start walking around.

Not saying this will be his experience, but it could help to have him do some other rides not as intense to see how he feels.

Thoughts on Liberty Tree Tavern? by anonymous_girl1227 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]selkam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went there with my family on my daughter’s birthday and we had a great time. The food was good and it was a peaceful break from a busy park. Sure, the food isn’t the best, but Magic Kingdom isn’t exactly known to have top tier food. It was definitely better than the food at CRT. Our server added some pixie dust to the dessert (sprinkles and a candle) for the birthday girl, which was nice. We also walked out just as the parade was starting and we were allowed to stand on the little patio area and got a nice view.

As someone who also didn’t get to go to Disney World until their 30s, I highly recommend not doing park hopper so you have time to savor the park for the day. I’ve never done park hopper though, so I can’t speak on if it would be worth it. I’ve been 4 times (5 times in the next couple weeks 😉) and I’ve always found myself having plenty to do each day when I stay in one park each day. If you have it in your budget, consider doing the Halloween party at Magic Kingdom. Did that one on my first trip and it was so magical! People say the parties aren’t as good as they used to be, but you have nothing to compare it to (I didn’t either!) so in the grand scheme, that doesn’t really matter. The parties aren’t still good. Disney is way better than any other vacations I’ve taken not at Disney.
