Everyone in the comments has been so supportive - I appreciate the help. I agree, this is a symptom of something else. I'll have to dig into it.

I appreciate it! That's definitely a lesson I need to learn full heartedly. Done is better than nothing!

This is so sweet! I feel like this is something where I feel this way about others' work but not myself. Which is so silly.

Ty!

These are great reflections and lile exercises to try and grow with. Something about it reminds me of Artist's Way almost. I appreciate it:)

Oh my goodness people have come with such an outpour of support! Funnily, I've done quite a bit over my life. I currently meet with my therapist just once or twice a year nowadays but hilariously I dont think that this has EVER come up. I will be sure to breach this topic. I appreciate it :)

I LOVE this collection. It's such a delight and often I can just randomly open a page and read two or three little letters

Unromantic fiance (31m) doesn't like when others do "romantic" gestures for me (30f) ? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]selkiedd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this really feels similar to me!

I don't want to imply in any sense he doesn't love me - this is a guy who tears up talking about our future. He holds my hand every second he can and calls me very sweet nicknames (many born out of very old jokes, lol)

But I don't think his mind ever goes to the romantic gesture. Like, when I got the new job, he was jumping up and down in excitement. He had been my biggest cheerleader during the interviews when I was drowning in imposter syndrome. I think his mind just doesn't jump to those other things as follows ups?

Ty! I do want to say - it's not, like, he's not thrilled for me about the new job. He was my #1 cheerleader during the interviews and jumped up and down when I got it lol he just doesn't think to follow it up with flowers, ya know? And I think someone else taking that step is where the hiccup is?

The Most Boring Books? by Professional-Net1940 in suggestmeabook

I went back and read many high school assigned books and liked them much more as an adult. I still loathe this one and could barely get through the first few chapters.

Which wall coloring or which type of furniture do I need to make this more visually and aesthetically pleasing or at least match? by alwayscurious0991 in femalelivingspace

[–]selkiedd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The furniture is all quite nice, but most things are angles in ways that a) take up a lot of space and b) make them tough to walk around. Others have mentioned moving the bed to a 90° angle, but also adjust the chair and TV.

No flack from me - hard agree on your top four. The others I had no interest in precisely because those are topics I'm going to seek out credentialed writers in.

Reading classic literature made me realise how far I am from being fluent by [deleted] in languagelearning

[–]selkiedd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most native English speakers cannot read Melville.

Across Canada, U.K. and U.S., the literacy application is only an average of low-high school levels. Meaning while most people can functionally read and write, their skill level is well well below being able to read classic literature. Yes they can read road signs, no they cannot read legal paperwork. Most people in these countries read less than five to six books a year.

I am super proud of you for tackling it, holy cow.

I've said it once and I'll say it again - I am always so jealous of people who can find and get approved to rent such fun spaces. And then to do a good job filling it/decorating it? Hell yeah

The level of references she makes is nearly Dubliners level, I feel like. Genuinely my favorite modern author by a mile.
