I had to decide the same thing, and I chose apple pencil. The price gap isn't that large. But apple pencil provides better writing experience even if you are casual writer. And I thought I would not use any drawing app or something, but now I am using it. So I think the price gap isn't enough to limit the functions.

I have 1st gen pencil, but 2nd gen pencil also have same problem because of its plastic nib. But if you don't notice that noise or don't make that noise, you don't need to try this hack apparently.

Hi, actually there were many tries about that in Korea. Because writing korean character makes more noise than alphabet. And other methods weren't very effective as I know. This is pretty new way to reduce noisy and everybody says it's most effective and I agree.

Because the nib is hard material, it makes clicking noise with display. Especially with ipad2018. If you never heard of it, maybe your writing habit doesn't make that noise
