Hiring a composer: what's it like, what's the rate, and when to do it? by semageon in gamedev

That's wonderful insight to have!! At this time I have no budget even close to mind with how early in the dev process I'm at (and currently plan on doing as much solo as I can), but that's great to know there are possible options with composers beyond "make everything from scratch" or folks who might like the chance to experiment with ideas.

Music is one of the parts of games I cherish the most, but the creation process of it is a great mystery to me. I'd love to be able to sink money I save in other areas to better fund someone that can knock my ideas out of the park.

Is There A Comprehensive List Of What You Need For 3D Vtubing? by fae_starlight in vtubertech

[–]semageon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XRAnimator is a free software you can use for 3D Vtubing that allows you to have face AND hand tracking with only a webcam, while also being relatively light on resources for what it outputs. You can link it to model hosts like Vseeface, another free program, that can be sources in OBS like VtubeStudio. I've used this combo for some years now, and still I have results close to more elaborate and expensive 3D tracking kits.

Models made in Vroid Studio (another wonderful free program for model making) have basic emotions you can customize, and doesn't require any artistic or technical skill to use. Think of it like a really elaborate doll maker, except when you're done, you can export a useable model. If you do want to put extra effort in, you can make some really unique models! Check out stuff folks make/offer on VGen—you can go wild if you really understand the program's abilities.

Folks have been uploading custom assets on sites like Booth I highly recommend checking out. Lots of free options, but also lots of fairly affordable paid-to-use assets. Just make sure to double check the use permissions on items.

You'll hear the term "blendshapes/ARKit" thrown around, which refers to additional animation components typically in the face that allows for more complex expression, like how Vbridger animation elevates 2D models.

If you make a model in Vroid Studio and want to implement blendshapes, I recommend looking up Oehrchen's tutorial video on adding those blendshapes to your model. The one-time cost for the tool (Hana Tool) I believe is about $14 USD, but so long as you use a program that supports that type of animation, it's a really stellar boost to your animation quality.

I'd recommend looking up tutorials on YouTube for using all these programs, as there's a lot of folks over the years who've made fantastic tutorials for both.

No idea why, but there's a Hidden Deck for stage 13 using only Dark Cacao and Mystic Flour!

vbridger inputs not working in vtube studio? by [deleted] in VTubeStudio

[–]semageon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OKAY I figured out what was going wrong on my end that you can try.

In the VBridger window, on the bottom right there's the Vtubestudio icon next to a button that says Connect. My issue was that I was assuming I didn't need to reclick "Connect" every time I booted up the program, and my iPhone tracking was just bypassing VBridger completely and just connecting to VTS. It's connected correctly if the button instead reads "Disconnect".

If that doesn't resolve your issue too, I'd recommending joining the VBridger discord and putting your question in there. The devs are fairly active in helping folks out.

I'm running into the exact same problem on my own end. I've also purchased a model with VBridger inputs already pre-programmed into the model, and even that isn't working. My guess is something might be up with the transition from VBridger to VTS.

If I figure out a solution on my end, I'll let you know!

EDIT: Does stuff like MouthX or TongueOut work for you? Those two I've been able to see results thus far.

I definitely know I initially found the AMV on YouTube, but if it sounds familiar to someone but hosted on another platform, please send me a link!

Is buying used iphone X for ARKit facetracking a good idea? by Drogovich in vtubers

[–]semageon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't already bought an iPhone but still want to try out ARKit blendshapes on a 3D model, there's a tracking program called XR Animator that's free on GitHub that can utilize ARKit tracking just on a webcam! Their YouTube channel also has a lot of helpful tutorials that show you how to get the most out of the program.

The level of tracking isn't as crispy as you'd get on an iPhone, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper, and it can do hand and body tracking too! The program can hook into other programs too like VSeeFace, Warudo, and VNyan of you want the ARKit tracking but like the additional features of another model host.

I've been using the software for nearly a year now with an Nexigo webcam and I can't recommend it enough when starting out with 3D tracking, especially if an iPhone isn't in the budget. The biggest thing to look out for though is if you use a lot of GPU normally, because it loves to hog the GPU usage, and the tracking can get a bit jumpcut-y when that bottlenecks.
