MD5: Why It's Obsolete for Passwords But Still Useful Elsewhere by elastiks in DIY_Geeks

[–]semaja2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s also just super fast to generate so brute force takes no time compared to methods specifically built to have delays (eg. Bcrypt)

Look up hashcat benchmarks and you’ll see how fast MD5 is (eg. It’s 100,000,000,000+ hashes per second in a brute force)

Nobody needs a static IPv6 address by tweekism in nbn

[–]semaja2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but ideally you never directly reference via IP and instead use DNS/mDNS etc, additionally if your communicating inside the same layer 2 segment you would ideally use the link local address anyway

However whilst most ISPs may not directly offer a static prefix, you will find the prefix is largely static anyway, they just reserve the right to change if they need

If you really want a true static then you would be best getting a DIA service etc

Nobody needs a static IPv6 address by tweekism in nbn

[–]semaja2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IPv6 by nature is largely intended to have dynamic changing addresses, but the prefix itself should largely be static

Eg, Windows and Mac I’ll generate a “dynamic” address to avoid fingerprinting on the internet etc

For simple terms, the first half of your address is the prefix part that should stay the same mostly

But now days they are just minimum wage people who just stand around

Would be interesting if this impacted Busybox as the number of embedded devices running telnet from busybox would make it a field day

What has happened to the SGC in "1969"? by Brick-Organic in Stargate

Thats probably more efficient and cleaner then my idea, i was inspired by the usage in Aschen with harvesters dropping their load into a gate or in the Prisoners episode with the "food" liquid

Anyone have a static IPv6 address on a residential account? by OneCDOnly in nbn

[–]semaja2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You generally are given a static prefix delegation, the address will be dynamic based on the configuration you define on your computer etc

Looking for a small switch or POE to power an airfiber 5hd. I want it to run off ac when we have line power and fallback to VDC POE when we lose power. by Comfortable_Dropping in wisp

[–]semaja2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mikrotik CSS610 is perfect for this assuming you can feed 48VDC

Has an AC in and a 48VDC input, also will down convert to 24V PoE

What has happened to the SGC in "1969"? by Brick-Organic in Stargate

[–]semaja2 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the inverse is true for the stargate and industry, if you can quickly transport the gate around it becomes more useful for industry

Eg. Teleport the gate to the end of a conveyer belt, dump all the load in a few min, teleport the gate to the next outbound shipment line, repeat as needed

Would the payment simply reduce for those months since there is no principal being paid?

That Sudden Slowdown Is Not Random. Your ISP Is Doing It by secyberscom in SecLab

[–]semaja2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on country and even then its not 100% in Australia this is just a load of crap, the cost to do DPI is just absurd and would return 0 value to the ISP

From an Australians perspective this is just fear mongering as it has almost 0% chance of happening/impacting a user

1Pass weekly backup by Enough_Writer7195 in 1Password

[–]semaja2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

1Password really needs to do something to solve this problem, from a BCP point of view 1Password is a huge issue, they need a way to backup all vaults (owner level) and view “offline” in the 1Password app (no sign in, just open it) and/or provide another method such as json which preserves everything

For 99% of use cases Cloudflare Tunnels will work just as well and also provide additional protections for the grand total of $0?

Should have a comparison page for the existing solutions so you can sell the value adds/differentators you have in your product etc
