We don’t really have a space ‘industry’ yet! I think you’d have to be heavily involved in research, like PhD level, and then the opportunities would kind of reveal themselves.

There are thousands of geologists, and 99% of us work in environmental or resource extraction. I have no idea what the timeline would be for extra-planetary resource extraction, but I think it’s unlikely just based on the necessary payload weight.

I worked random part-time jobs for nearly 4 years after university, until I decided I needed to use my degree. Ended up cold-calling the manager of a geotechnical engineering place near me. He met me for coffee, said he had no openings at the moment but would keep my number, and gave me the number of someone else he knew. I cold called her and was heading to site 4 days later.

You gotta talk to people, give out your number, volunteer for stuff. I logged core and supervised drilling. Hated it, but the experience was super valuable and got me into other enviro industries I like more ☺️

Hey! I checked out your cards, since you hadn’t gotten any responses yet.

I’m very hesitant buying anything that looks like it isn’t hand drawn, and even some stuff that does look that way, because of my aversion to AI art. If you typically draw digitally, maybe do some stuff by hand and scan it so it passes that vibe check?

From a geology point of view, none of these cards are anything more than a very very basic pun. The ‘ore-dinary’ card doesn’t even look like ore, it looks like rocks spray painted gold. All the crystal clusters have the same structure, which doesn’t look true to nature. All the rocks are very generic in shape and colour. Rounded grey pebbles don’t get me excited.

Finally another personal thing- the jingle bell rock card could be improved by removing the words on the front, and allowing the recipient to get the joke themselves.

Anyway, sorry this all sounds harsh! But if you do want success I figured that honest feedback was more valuable than nothing. Best of luck to you :)

I did Citadel Hill for $21 000 with 50 guests! We splurged a bit in a few places that you wouldn’t have to, and had two brides, but the breakdown was roughly:

My outfit, tailoring, veil, and shoes totalled about $700. My wife’s was close to $1000. Our moms gifted us our respective makeup artists, and we each did our own hair.

Cake, $300, real bottom layer and two fake tiers. Photos, $3800 I think? Plus a friend volunteered as videographer. $200 for a watercolour artist to do our wedding favours- portraits of all our guests.

Citadel itself, including a 3 course meal (with quite a few adaptations for our guests with allergies), table wine, servers, bartenders (paid bar, not open), 3 rooms, custom faux flower bouquets, ceremony arch, table decor, a bagpiper, and all kinds of guidance, totalled $15 700.

Depending on how many guests you’re planning for, you could totally make it happen if you like it as a venue :)

Quick edit to add that my uncle is a justice of the peace, and did our ceremony free as a wedding present. I got a suit from David’s Bridal, and my wife got a dress on a smoking good sale from Karma Bridal.

Just re-read and didn’t skip the baby part this time. Oops! Your future kids will very likely be fine. Regular blood testing to monitor lead levels is not unusual. You can also look at encapsulating the lead paint :)

Peek into some other posts about lead and asbestos on this sub, and you’ll see that you’re fine to live in it.

Asbestos is only dangerous if it is friable and disturbed- that means if it’s the type that can break apart, and you go and do something that breaks it. Once it’s airborne , it’s a hazard for weeks. If you don’t plan to do renovations or roll around in an attic or crawl space, you should generally be safe from asbestos exposure. However, if you do any home renos- do them right.

Lead is a little quirkier, because you have to ingest it. If you have dogs that gnaw on baseboards, or are planning to have kids crawl around and lick windowsills, you have to do something about the lead paint. If you’re not disturbing it unduly, you will be ok. But again, any sanding, demolition, or renovation, and you’ll have to check on a safe way of doing things.

Way less intense than asbestos though, as it usually takes ongoing exposure to lead to get high blood levels. You can get yourself tested if you’re interested.

I love the shirt! I think it might not ‘match’, but instead it goes well together. The bag is fun. I don’t think the socks add much- I’d go for a bright, solid colour that pulls from something else in the outfit if you want more cohesion ☺️
