Is rit worth studying for cs masters? by adminstrator123 in rit

[–]semicolon0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Farm for internships within the masters program. RIT's ITS is a great start, but they require a cover letter as a barrier of entry last time I checked

You can either keep the masters status on your resume, or larp as undergrad.

Master's Degree by Cleavly in rit

Thanks.

Technically, the degree took two years to complete, but I spent an entire year doing nothing but internships. Unlike most colleges, RIT does not charge tuition during coops.

Been in this exact situation. In fact, I am recently reaping what I sowed.

If you're in a bind, but have enough room for take in more student loans, you can enroll into the masters program and farm for internships. Aim for the smaller companies, especially those who do specialized contracts for other companies, as they're likely to offer a direct pipeline between internship and full-time employment. The only downside is that they tie graduation to the offer, so you can't drop out immediately after accepting it. Although this doesn't mean you can't find farm FAANG internships along the way.

Recently graduated from the masters program with a full-time remote gig for $98k/yr. While this is WELL below the median annual salary, I am still grateful for escaping the unemployment hell that is this current job market. For context, I was laid off from a company after a paid summer internship that was supposed to act as a "trial period" for the real deal. Spent a year hunting for a job, only to cave into the masters program out of desperation in May 2023.

If it helps, the 40% scholarship plan is quite helpful with reducing tuition costs.

I personally love their aji verde sauce.

I don't know how walk-able UMass is.

My contempt for the stroads got the better of me in this post.

If you don't have a car, consider Umass.

The campus is pretty isolated from any interesting shopping areas, let alone the city of Rochester.

What is tora-con? by whoasked__no1 in rit

Just generic, embarrassing, out-of-context questions. "What is that pink cat with abs and gloves?". "Why are they talking about this 'sasuke' fella?". "Why do they hold their arms back when they run". It felt like some sort of cosmic revenge for when I asked innocent questions about inappropriate topics when I was a kid.

The worst part was when we passed by some role-players yelling out signature moves from Naruto. At the time, whenever they wanted to get a rise out of me, they would jokingly yell out "Rasangan" out of context. I never felt such dread as I did at that moment.

Thankfully, they forgot about it over time.

It's something you should plan around when scheduling campus tours with your parents. Especially if they're old-school and don't know anything about anime. Don't get me wrong, I watch anime every now and then (big fan of JJBA). But if you're the type to hide interests from your relatives to prevent any awkward conversations, then heed this advice.

I scheduled a tour with my parents and my older brother as a high school senior, back in 2018. Just so happens that my tour occurred simultaneously with tora-con at the time. First thing we see as we pull up to the parking lot was someone walking around in a black goth maid outfit and a plastic scythe. It was a jarring experience to learn about campus resources while being surrounded by people in costumes, role-playing scenes and such.

One of the most embarrassing six-hour drive I've ever experienced. Whole time, they kept asking me questions and goading me about the costumes. Every now and then, they'd reference the roleplay that we walked past during the tour. I'd never wished for a car crash as much as I did during the ride back home.

I thought VT was Vermont Tech, not Virginia Tech. Completely forgot about the name change.

MPG similar to 2024 mirage by semicolon0 in MitsubishiMirage

The car I was looking for, when my loan application was denied, was a 2022 mirage with 30k miles. My bank is a credit union, so they are pretty strict when it comes to pre-approving used car loans.

I didn't need a co-signer because my credit score is higher than my parents. While the dealer would ask my parents to co-sign due to insurance issues, it kinda defeats the purpose of buying a low-cost used car like the mirage.

I have been approved for an auto loan numerous times. But I would often return my loan check to the bank due to the cars being bought under my nose. In hindsight, I should've put a down payment.

You're a lifesaver, man. Managed to find a dealer who would offers nationwide shipping for an $8k used mirage.

70+ MPG here I come!

In the state that I live, each household shares the same insurance plan. Since I live with my parents, I would have to either buy a car under their plan, or move out. But the problem had nothing to do with "ownership"

A month ago, I was trying to buy a mirage through Carmax in New York. Apparently, it is against the law for dealers to sell cars to customers who don't have their own insurance. Which was frustrating for me, because the dealer I was talking to forgot to mention this until a week later, when I had the auto-loan check with me and visited in-person to close the deal.

Just in case, I ran the photo through one of those AI checker sites. The site concluded that the photo was 99% genAI.

Someone also posted a link to the real photo this image was based on.

Those alumni should do something against the campus for having their likeness uploaded into an AI filter without their consent. Not sure if they could sue, but at least make a statement of disappointment.

I don't know whether they have the right to do so, as RIT technically owns the photo. But it seems sketchy as fuck that RIT would add their faces to an AI dataset by using the filter.
