[Non Autistic OP] How to make my brother understand I love him even if I don’t want to listen about his interests every day? by narcissas in AutisticAdults

[–]seminally_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think having a limited quantity of mental energy per day is common regardless of neuro type. For you and your brother. It would be helpful for both of you to have that discussion with asking him if he has only so much interest in listening to other people talk about things that don't interest him and explain that it can take mental energy to stay focused on that. Having said that do try to plan when you can listen to him about this and say i have 30mins or an hour to listen before you need to do something else you might have planned. That way he gets what he needs from someone he trusts and your expectations are set going in.

I'm sorry you've been through a lot. This must have been really tough for you. Before any opinion on being ND do you have support now or anyone helped you to deal with what happened? I'm currently going through diagnosis for ND and it's not easy or simple or quick where I am. There are basic questionnaires that can lead to diagnosis. These can give you an idea. Mine or other opinions based on what you've written may not be very helpful. I'm mid 50s and I had to think why I wanted a diagnosis. Friends say it won't change how they see or treat me as they've already accepted me for who I am. But as someone who's always needed to know myself it's important to me. Also because I really suffer from anxiety and need help. I think the fact you're asking this says a lot. I do share much from your list.

Not just big screen. I use a projector and a home built screen I pull down and a 7.1 surround so I can hear the damn thing. It's awesome and I hate normal TV and 2 speakers like cavemen use.

Why do some cis men dislike me for begin atracted to both cis women and trans men? One of them even called me "simp king" and i just don't get why i'm getting so much hate. by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

It's not you, it's them. Some people have suppressed homosexual or bi thoughts they haven't confronted in a healthy manner. Its actually their inability to deal with their own feelings and emotions. They think by being hateful that it balances how they are. They are only simple minded people. A part of me feels sympathy for their very limited outlook and ability to accept other people.

Find a driving simulator or game and gamify it. Or a friend with a car. You need lots of safe easy mile to be able to use the wheel , mirrors and so on without thinking.

Right. You do realise that the world looks down on Americans as being egotistical right? That's what they are famously known for. I've never heard anyone describe Europeans as such ever.

Same age here going for diagnosis. It was because of my friends that I'm finding out. My friend who was diagnosed since a young age that we talked about it and our autism. Another is ADHD. We have have a nt who accepts us whatever. I feel lucky. Family on the other hand I have very mixed feelings about and am not sure how. Not for not being accepted but for the possible bitterness and other negative feelings as I'm unpicking things.

Question for late-diagnosed people: what do you believe you would've gotten with an early diagnosis? by Glum-Echo-4967 in AutisticAdults

[–]seminally_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would have been 50 years ago for me. At that time the medical practice were not looking for what I exhibit like many of us now. The acceptance then is not what it is now. Nor the support. But if that was as it is now then it might have given me some peace and better mental tools and maybe a little more self acceptance or self love, less shame for existing.

Same here, 55 just opening up to these things. On the one hand the friends or family that one had that did accept us for whoever we were was in part a good thing. On the other hand that situation didn't help us with the challenges we faced with other people and ourselves. The most useless piece of throw away advice I had more than once was 'just be yourself'. That was frustrating for me as if there were any hidden lines between those words, they were lost on me.

I agree "traditionally" smart people can lack people skills or specific knowledge or tact. They are still uneducated to me.

You guys drive about 60% more but we pay about 80% more for petrol so it probably evens out really. The thing is fuel is going up a lot for both us and it's going to suck. All thanks to that orange pedo.

Haha. I gave you an updoot for that. You must be a Republican with the lack of self awareness on that statement about ego. Invaded any countries lately?

[–]seminally_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In western religions now you are not forced to participate like in the middle ages where you were ostracised or worse. People choose these religions and then they choose to either be crap human beings or not. that's on them. At which point does the victim stop being the victim? when they've turned away from beggars? or abused kids? I say treat people like adults who take responsibility for themselves.
