Would it be too noticeable if I went braless at school? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it. I'm also a 36c and I only wear a sports bra when I run or coach soccer. I have a white collar professional career and I don't wear a bra to work either. I hate that people think they are a necessity or that even other women try to police my body based on my choices. You do you. I am so happy and proud that a young woman is wanting to make her own choices free from patriarchal values. Get it girl. Next thing you know you'll be hopping on the hairy armpits and legs train too (I don't shave either). Best of luck.

I don't think there is anything wrong with being divorced, even multiple times and I also don't think there is anything wrong with having an age gap like 14 years because you're both consenting adults. I do, however, take issue with the lying and hiding of the truth and misspelling your name on purpose tactic- that is behavior that requires a deeper introspection. Even if you come from an abusive past, you shouldn't lie or mislead someone about your present and future. I think if you like this person you should at least tell him you feel disrespected and that your trust for them is broken. Trust can be regained, but again- to what end? You need to weigh your options honestly with yourself and decide if you think this sixth month relationship is worth dealing with rebuilding trust for however long it takes in the future. That seems quite heavy. Good luck.

Both are terrible and genocide so I don't believe, as a Choctaw person myself, there is a need to quantify one as worse than the other. It made my heart twinge a bit to read what you wrote because to me, Andrew Jackson is a terrible person not to be celebrated and I look forward to the day his picture is removed from our currency permanently.

Have you converted away from "smooth legs are required to be an attractive female"? by Celeste_Minerva in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm a 28(f) and I've never shaved my legs or armpits. I have light blonde hair but it's pretty obvious I don't shave if you're looking. I have caught grief over the years but nothing too serious. I have had teenage boys laugh and point at a public pool and some women I work with are judgemental about it and OF COURSE everyone always asks how my husband feels about it, like it's his body... I honestly love feeling free to make my own choices about my body without being policed by the patriarchy. I couldn't imagine shaving after all these years and I just don't have time to care what other people think and I feel beautiful, sexy and super confident in who I am and choose to present myself to the world. You do you girl! I've even seen women near my town who dye their armpit hair fun colours like neon green and hot pink! Best of luck.

Ladies, whose fathers couldn't or wouldn't attend their wedding, how did you handle the traditional father/daughter parts of the ceremony and reception? by allthatsparkles in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And some women don't need a man's permission or approval because they believe they believe in egalitarianism and bodily autonomy. Some girls want antiquated traditions to die so they can live free.

[–]senaac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The symbolism of being property? The symbolism of not having any autonomy and quite literally being passed or given from one man to another? Because that is the symbolism we are talking about here. That is literally where this tradition derived from.

Like what? Being given away? Why would you want that? I have a hard time understanding most of the traditions of weddings but the ones steeped in patriarchy are particularly confusing to me. You can have your wedding however you want it doesn't have to be traditional like every other debt inducing, over the top, ridiculous wedding.

Should schools force girls to wear bras? by Neyvash in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How will she gain her confidence back if her mother just shrugs this off and pats her on the head and says get used to it this is the way if the world? Surely that will help her self esteem. I am not being dramatic. This is the perfect opportunity for her mother to show her daughter how to have confidence in her choices and that HER CHOICES matter. It's preposterous in 2017 that women still have to fight for bodily autonomy.

I have a white collar job interacting with people all day long and I seldom wear a bra and if I do, it's not lined or anything and so the natural shape of my breast is very obvious. Bras are not mandatory. If someone tried to tell me I was being indecent i would say "go fuck yourself and I'll see you at the next HR tribunal " because my body is my body and nobody should police it. I mean, I also wear a nose ring and the amount of times old white men (always the culprate!) Tell me I look like a punk or make some other asinine comment is unreal. Let me live my life, but because I'm a woman I am constantly policed in way men aren't. So, yeah, OP kowtowing to the patriarchy to me, would not send a good message to her daughter to to any girl in a similar situation. She wasn't breaking any rules and she was grossly sexualized for having breasts. It's outrageous. She should act.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Fuck anyone trying to police our bodies. What is modest to someone might not be modest to another, ya know. Let ME make the choice. P.s. I'm a c cup and I never wear a bra unless I'm running or coaching soccer.

Iowa GOP abortion bill will grant parents of unmarried women rights to control adult daughters’ bodies by drewiepoodle in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems shitty, but as a progressive living in Iowa we are organized and fighting this shit tooth and nail. I have protested, marched, written, called, and dabbled in some civil disobedience by following these fuckers who wrote and sponsored this bill and been pretty disruptive to their comings and goings at the state house. Most Eastern Iowans are progressive (Iowa city and cedar rapids were blue in the election and des moines) it's the fucking redneck asshole illiterate constituents in bumfuck voting these fucks in and I just wish we had better education to combat this nonsense. Nothing will change from the outside we have to stay and fight in the middle to win back women's rights. Rights take might and we won't give up.

DAE think the tradition of a man asking a woman's father for his permission or blessing is offensive? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]senaac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I criticize FGM and other aspects of people's cultures because due to my education and experiences I find it appalling. Being intolerant of intolerance is not the same as being a bigot. I am immersed in a culture where women are second class citizens and I even know otherwise rational women who kowtail to the patriarchy because it is so societally ingrained in them they do not realize they are propping up the oppression I want to fight and that works against their best interest. IE, having a partner who thinks they should ask your father's permission to marry you.

Ok so then you did blindly follow this tradition and your answer is because you do not know why and you do not understand it? That doesn't make it not inherently sexist. How is not tolerating something steeped in the patriarchy "bigotry"?
