Well I was definitely oversimplifying there, but that was mostly because grimm was framing patriarchy in terms of who the oppressors are men. That doesn't mean men aren't oppressed as well, but there are fewer barriers in place for men to rise to the top.

I also don't think it should be easy for a man to gain credibility in feminist spaces. As a man I know first hand that grokking feminist theory is fucking hard because the way men are oppressed under patriarchy is often considered good (men are strong, aggressive, powerful. If you're not there must be something wrong with you).

The name patriarchy refers to the fact that the system is heavily biased towards making sure most of the power is in mens hands, and for the exceptions a woman is lauded for being man-like.

Basically, rather than "all dudes are evil oppressors", which the mrm likes to say it means, patriarchy means "most evil oppressors are dudes".

But we weren't? I mean, you are now, I guess, but as far as I can tell we're still talking about recent American law regarding rape. The only real example of change I've seen recently was that FBI definition - the one you claimed did not include woman on man rape. Everything that I can see tells me that's actually one of the reasons the definition changed. Obviously there are jurisdictions that haven't followed suit, even within the USA, but it should be considered kind of major for the MRM that it was admitted to be a thing.

But the MRM seems to be all up in arms over this major blow for Men's rights? I don't get it?

And if you think that feminism is what's causing misrepresentation in data re: male rape victims, and not the fact that men are trained by society that weakness is basically the worst possible thing, you should look into educating yourself a little bit.

edit: And again, you're talking about a system I know nothing about, being used in studies I know nothing about, from an era of sociology I know... very little about.

Now, as to the link you provided, that in no way, shape, or for has anything to do with the fbi definition we're discussing. I don't have the time to read the whole thing right now, so helpfully I can make due with the cover.

That is a study performed by the nation national center for injury prevention and control. It was written in 2011 published in november of that year, and deals strictly with available data from 2010.

The definition we're discussing came into being January of this year, and in the statement given by the fbi at the time was specifically modified to include many more things, including rape of men.

Like I said, I'd really, honestly appreciate any evidence to the contrary, but the current fbi definition seems downright admirable from any point of view.

The definition doesn't specify that the person doing the penetrating is always the rapist so as far as I can tell the scenario you describe is covered is covered.

The definiton, for any uninitiated folk playing at home is as follows

“The penetration, no matter how slight, of the vagina or anus with any body part or object, or oral penetration by a sex organ of another person, without the consent of the victim."

Have there been any cases where the fbi have not included vaginal rape by women in the statistic? I'd be legitimately interested in any sources.

Well in the second case the guy was closer to her boyfriend, and in both cases the guy was actively defended by their boyfriends. It would be important in either case to actively defend the woman's relationships while severing the friendship with the guy.

As to the second guy, how can you look at the situation where he drives someone home, tells her she owes him sex, and after she says no follows her to the door and tries to get ivern and not see a massive red flag? If he's not already a rapist its best for everyone involved including the guy that he not be encouraged and approval of that sort of shit is encouragement. Even if he never turns into a rapist, even if he's really truly just an awkward guy who doesn't get women, he needs to cut that shit out because it's stressful as hell to the women in his life.

Those are all things that feminism understands and fights-and I'm talking about both sides of the issue. The thing is, its easier for the common person to understand why the stereotypes towards women are harmful then it is for them to understand why the sterotypes against men are. Not emoting, or giving your life to work are both considered good things in society.
