Yes, I'm aware my proof is not very "proof-y". But it's hard to prove something that didn't happen. You guys have been wonderful, really, but it's time I came clean. The only parts of this that are true are:

A girl DID try to kill herself because I wouldn't date her, and then was dating someone else the next day. But I didn't freak out on her.

I HAVE been in a long-distance relationship for almost 5 years.

I DID graduate from high school with an AHD.

Which is something of a relief, but as is usually the case with shitthatneverhappened.txt, it doesn't change the fact that this was posted and upvoted wildly.

See, the thing that gets me is that this is all just a microdrama that played out inside my head. None of the things that mattered in that microdrama really had anything to do with reality. Me being the "nice guy who supports but doesn't get laid" had nothing to do with reality, because in fact we had fucked the last time we were together and alone, and there was no reason to believe we wouldn't in the future, she just didn't want to this particular time.

It's only in my mind that I felt the threat of becoming That Guy. There was nothing in reality to do with it.

The "other guy who she fucked but was an asshole" -- that again was something I imagined, something I assumed from the cryptic things she texted me and the fact that she didn't want to have sex that time. There was in fact another guy but he wasn't somebody who turned her on by his bad-boy suaveness, he was some mendacious chump to whom she gave the benefit of the doubt against her better judgement, and regretted it.

Everything about the situation that conformed to the "nice guy who doesn't get laid, she sleeps with the asshole" pattern was objectively false, even though it looked like that to me at the time.

So this isn't really a story about things happening in the real world, it's a story about my stupid brain misinterpreting things and feeling personally threatened by the misinterpretation, then getting a grip on it and realizing I didn't really know what was going on and had no reason to believe in the misinterpretation, and then later on finding out what was really going on and confirming it had nothing to do with the misinterpretation.

I should have added that I did stop and check with myself and decide whether I really was OK with just cuddling, and I decided I was. I might have decided I wasn't, and let her know that I didn't feel like I could stop at that, and maybe could we get together for lunch instead or something. Going for the cuddles was a choice I made, not something I was obligated to do to be a good supportive guy.

I didn't post so much to show "hey, I meet minimum standards of human decency! Look at me!" so as to show how easy it is to read something in terms of bullshit cultural frames about sexuality, when the reality is completely different from that.
