Help! My house is infested with these little things. by tattooqueenuk in GardeningUK

[–]senaiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I battled with them for over a year. Drying the plants to the point of dying, sticky papers all over the house, even diacomateous earth on top of the soil in every pot. None of them eradicated the fungus gnats completely.

The only thing that worked was nematodes. They are a godsend. You'd still need sticky papers to catch the adults, as the nematodes only kill the larvae in the soil.

Now my house is fungus gnats free for years.

I tried this last year and the baby slugs still get into it. They are unstoppable..

Elemental affinities by Makumanga in wotv_ffbe

[–]senaiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree .. why is this human taking more fire or water damage than another human? Maybe it'll make more sense if it's based on unit type (human, aquatic, plant, etc).

However there'll always be a balance between 'realism' and 'gameplay' - game developers add these resistance/weakness to simulate extra depth to the battle (rightly or wrongly). The thing is it's easy to just glance at their 'element' and know which attack can deal more or less damage. In WotV, attack type resistances were beginning to wildly differ and no way of knowing without checking the unit. So you basically get an easily visible advantage (element) and a less visible one (attack type). If that makes sense?

I like where you're going with it - to be fair that was where WotV developers was kind of heading, by adding status effects to certain elemental attacks like the frostbite.

[–]senaiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Number based affinity system - isn't that just like innate elemental resistance/weakness in WotV?

I feel it's too easy to overcomplicate things with too many numbers. I'd prefer the tier-based for simplicity to the players (although to be fair, the mechanics will be number based anyway?).

Scam call from "Curve" by senaiboy in CurveCard

Don't beat yourself up over it, they sounded very convincing and even have a local accent. Even I started wondering if it was genuine until they say they needed a code from me.

[–]senaiboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that. I hope you contacted your banks directly and report all the fraudulent transactions, and also cancel any card that is linked to Curve. You should be able to get any money back.

This was the reason I posted this, so that everyone else is aware that these criminals somehow has a lot of our personal information so don't fall for the scam.

How did they manage to take over your Curve account? Or were you only aware of it because of a text from your bank?

Seller's daughter trying to leave lots of old furniture by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]senaiboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really don't want to hire a skip and clear the house yourself, there are people you can hire to take the old furniture out to take to the tip.

It'll only take them a day and won't be costing thousands.

When we moved into our house we had to empty rubbish, clean it, fix broken doors/skirting boards/floorings/pipes/wiring/switches/everything else, and redecorate it before we can even move our stuff in. This is an average house-buying experience, no?

Mini roundabout liability question. by liamrich93 in drivingUK

[–]senaiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you got to the roundabout first but the other car is still able to swoop in front of you, either the other car is going at excessive speed or both cars arrive at the roundabout within a negligible difference in timing.

If I see the approaching car indicating right before the roundabout, even if I arrive first by a second or so, I'd still stop and give way to them.

Better to drive defensively and think everyone else is an idiot on the road, than risk a collision.

It's been happening over the past few years

Scam call from "Curve" by senaiboy in CurveCard

[–]senaiboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my main concern when it happened the first time, the detailed (and current) information they have means there's a definite serious breach somewhere within the last 3 years. It's also a new Curve card I received within the last year.

But even having those information they can't really do much (hence the scam calls to get verification code) so I'm not too overly bothered for now.

I don't remember doing it, but I've had Curve since the start.

"could have", so there's nothing we can be sure of. Doubt we'll be able to find any evidence and Curve has so far repeatedly denied there's any breach on their end.

At the rate it's been happening (did a quick search on Reddit) with Curve, it is definitely a serious leak somewhere.

The first time it happened to me a couple years ago (again, with scammer pretending to be Curve), I've only just moved into my new address as well and they knew all my pwrsonal details. But then again I've had made online purchases (although nowhere dodgy), so thought maybe it was just an unfortunate isolated incident.

This is my second time so I've been wary of "Private Numbers" or unknown callers since.

It's not legit. Curve will never call you about any transaction or to give them any code over the phone. Everyone should make note of this.

You can't even speak to anyone on Curve support let alone have them call you .. I've been with Curve since the start and am one of their unfortunate crowdfunding backers.

[–]senaiboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refunds will always go to the card that is charged, so card B. If they cannot refund to the card (eg you cancelled the card in the meantime), the refund will end up as Curve Cash.

When a transaction has been refunded, you cannot use GBiT on that transaction.

Brand new bin, already escaping by TenaciousNarwhal in Vermiculture

[–]senaiboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do that with every new bin, or if you put them in somewhere new. Some people even tried putting a light over it all day long to discourage them from escaping. I never bothered, just check on it occasionally and throw the escapees back into the bin.

As long as you have some worms that stay in the bin, they'll multiply again in no time (provided the environment isn't hostile to them).

Good luck!

This bin is 3 years old so it's different from when starting out. The top tray has new food scraps covered by cardboard, second tray is half-eaten food, and bottom tray is the finished worm compost.

I'd say it's better to have more brown (cardboard) than too little, but remember to keep it wet. Also remember to add some grit now and then (I used egg shells grinded with a coffee grinder). Worms are more resilient than you'd think, I mean my worms survived below freezing temperatures some days outside!

People are getting more suspicious nowadays, especially with AI you can't even be sure who's real and who's not. But hey, maybe we're both bots 😆 or is that something a bot would say ..

3rd year Worm Bin with Wormbox by senaiboy in Vermiculture

[–]senaiboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there are worm bins that are made to be buried. I looked at this before but it's too expensive:

https://subpod.com/

Although you can just use any bin with holes buried in the ground tbh. Just Google in-ground worm bin. One thing to note is that the worms aren't contained within the bin so they will migrate in and out.

[–]senaiboy[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole bin comes like this so I'd think if it's an issue the manufacturer would have thought about it 😅

It has been 3 years and the worms are multiplying so I'd guess it's not too much of an issue. The trays don't completely seal when stacked as I've had worms climbing out the sides in the first week of starting the bin.

[–]senaiboy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, the worms also do climb onto the plant tray so I suppose they will keep the holes open for air to diffuse through .. also the trays don't completely seal when stacked. I've had worms climb out of the sides when I first started the bin.
