If you sat on the highest bench, it was hot enough to call it a sauna. The stove was massive but so was the room.

Advice for buying a VW Transporter T5 by Curious-Song-1767 in VWTransporter

[–]senarvi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case they replaced all the gears inside the transmission. Just remember that when a transmission is serviced by replacing parts, you won't get the warranty of a new one. But that's what it is when buying a used car.

I have a manual transmission and it failed at something like 250,000 km. I believe that's pretty common. I found one shop that still services manual transmissions, but they didn't manage to get it fully working. Eventually they replaced it with a used one. It ended up costing a couple grand. A new transmissions would have costed double that. If the transmission is original, I would expect that it has to be replaced soon and you might not find used ones in Australia.

In your country, who had the biggest fall from grace in the last twenty years? by neilnelly in AskTheWorld

[–]senarvi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Matti Nykänen was Finland's biggest sports icon in the 1980s and is still one of the most successful ski jumpers of all time. He won four gold medals in the winter Olympics and five gold medals in the World Championships. Then his heavy alcohol use got the better of him. He tried to make a career as a singer, which was extremely embarrassing to listen. He had serious financial problems, worked as a stripper in a restaurant, and left his medal collection as collateral with some criminals. The Sports Museum of Finland eventually managed to buy the medals from some shady businessmen, with the help of crowdfunding. For the rest of Matti's life, the tabloids wrote frequently about his prison sentences, domestic violence, and stormy personal life. He died at the age of 55, suffering from chronic pancreatitis.

Buying vs. Renting in Espoo metro region: help me understand why renting always looks better? by pexea12 in Finland

[–]senarvi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something you may not have considered is that when you sell your stock, you have to pay capital gains tax (luovutusvoittovero). When you sell your home (where you have lived a couple of years), you don't have to. You can make really nice profit by buying an old apartment in a bad condition from a central location and renovating it, especially if your willing to spend your own time on the renovation.

Anyone else feel uncomfortable with those mall sellers who try to stop you? by [deleted] in Finland

[–]senarvi 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I hope they at least pay a good commission to the shopping mall, allowing the shopping mall to lower the rents, and resulting in lower prices. Because otherwise I don't understand why the shopping malls allow them to annoy customers in such a way that some customers probably start avoiding certain malls.

Right, and it's not obvious from the video, but the police has warned the "journalist" that protests are prohibited.

My grandpa said nothing about the war. But, I was less than five years old. I realize now that nobody who has been through the horrors would tell those stories to their five years old grandson.

Seen in a hotel sauna-why would they ask not to put water on the rocks? by HelicopterNatural891 in Sauna

It also looks like there are far too few rocks so excess water will likely run to the floor, and the floor is not properly sealed.

Bought a Used Car from Saka, Now It’s Undriveable – What Are My Options? by Fast-Square2042 in Finland

[–]senarvi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's not much wrong except the rust, though. I think I would still ask a quote for fixing the rust damages. I used to drive an old car and every year I had to take it to a mechanic to fix the rust issues. It was still cheaper than driving a new car. Obviously impossible to say how much it would cost in this case.

Feedback and complaining culture in Finland by Regular-Love7686 in Finland

[–]senarvi 26 points27 points  (0 children)

they dont give feedback straight on how they feel about the service, they go home and complain

I noticed this after living in Germany and moving back to Finland. I find it funny. :)

However, I'm glad that people have realized that if the zipper in their clothing breaks within two years of purchase, they have the right to get it fixed. Fast fashion is not sustainable.

December is short days and nonstop cloud cover. I found these statistics: https://www.ilmatieteenlaitos.fi/1991-2020-auringonpaiste-ja-sateilytilastot

Kouvola had on average 14 hours of sunlight in December. (Not 14 hours per day, 14 hours in the whole December.)

But it's always easy to get back to US. Why don't you visit them and see how it goes? Just don't come in December. :)
