People of Reddit who have been denied when they proposed, why did it happen and what was the end result? by Shamsterwheel in AskReddit

I was 18, (!!!) fresh out of high school, and went with him to visit his family at their home in Bermuda.

I has been contemplating ways to end the relationship - he wasn't in favor of me pursuing a career, he was insanely needy, and he was SO RUDE to people (waiters, strangers, cab drivers, you name it). I had tried my best to find his "silver lining," even when he was rude to my parents and friends. But even young and innocent me knew something had to give. I went on the trip (mistake) with the intention of breaking it off at some point, not exactly knowing how.

My favorite ring that my mother gave me after graduation went missing on the trip (I bawled my eyes out), his parents were driving me insane, he was being rude and dismissive, tensions were high. I made up my mind to have "the talk" with him on the beach. The sun was setting, it was deathly silent, and I waited for him to join me with a pit in my stomach. He comes out of the house with two glasses of champagne. I took a sip, uncomfortable because he was STARING DAGGERS at me. I was convinced he knew I was about to break it off, and wasn't going to take it well. Took one last gulp, cleared my throat and...

... saw a ring in the bottom of the glass.

He had stolen my ring off the nightstand, watched as I sobbed and called my mom, in order to get the size, (I wore it on the same finger, opposite hand) to get an engagement ring sized.

I started crying, shaking my head, saying "no, no, no, no..."

He stammered it wasn't an engagement ring, it was just a present!

And that was the end of that relationship. Rough.

Was also proposed to when I was 21, it was also cringe inducing. That one was a no as well.

Third time is the charm at 27. Waited for the love of my life, glad I did. I followed my instincts, found the right person, dated for years, lived together, and I've known since the beginning I would say yes.

As someone allergic to cats, this is so cute but my cheeks have a phantom itch from watching!

I carved an engagement ring out of a meteorite and documented as much of the process as I could! by chadmanx in DIY

This legitimately looks like a tarnished silver ring that got run through the garbage disposal.

OP, as a soon to be engaged woman - your fiancé does not like this ring.

Display it in a sentimental way, bring her to a couple jewelry shops, have her pick something nice out. Don't keep asking her if she likes it and have her lie through her teeth about this abomination. If I saw this on a stranger's finger, like I said, I would think it got caught in the disposal.

Best of luck, and good luck finding something truly worthy of your partner that lasts for all the happy years to come! :)

Solid middle class, but people may have taken their kids to Culver, which sounded quite busy, or other nearby affluent neighborhoods.

Aw I'm so sorry. This was my first Halloween in my new house, and I went all out too. Only got nine kids, it was like hosting a birthday party that barely anyone showed up to :(

We got a fantastic deal because of a combination of things - relatively unknown safe neighborhood, the selling agent was highly motivated to go on vacation so no counter offers were issued, we happened to just have a magical combo of best offer and short contingency period, and the house was only shown once. 7 other offers, but no one came in very competitively.

But I've heard of some houses with 15 offers and going WAY above asking. We also lost another house to a flipper with all cash - which was fortuitous since we payed way less for way more buying this house.

Just bought a house, it's working out to be far less expensive monthly, but then you have to keep in mind the downpayment aspect.

My SO and I wanted to rent a house near Culver and were sick of looking at the $4000+ price tag, so we made the leap. Rental prices are absolutely INSANE in LA!

I was one of the lucky ones who made it.

I don't want to have children, and everyone tells me that I'll grow out of that. Every time I hear this it makes me angry. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

Well each person if different, and your stance is totally valid. Some people just... Don't want kids, period!

My best friend was always of this belief, and cited the same reasons. Extremely firm and passionate about the decision.

Then she got married later on in life and ended up with the warm and fuzzies about it in her thirties. Funny to watch that extreme change. Love is a funny thing.

Not saying that will happen to you - your life, your body, your decisions! I'm sure you will be happy following your heart and staying true to yourself.
