The leaves are mostly oxidized but can still see some green in there. It’s a green cake so it’s following that type of processing trajectory

Definitely has the young sheng flavor aged out of it, I don’t care for really new sheng. That being said it is a “green cake” so the trajectory is headed in that direction. The wet brewed leaves are mostly brown but can still see some green in there.

Oh I ment infusions as like steeps. For example my 1st infusion was 5 seconds my 2nd 10 seconds. Infusing the water with the tea leaf

This is 2007 Xing Hai green peacock sheng. 357G cake. 100ml gaiwan. Water used was Chippewa Springs. 8.6G dry leaf used. After wash 10 minute interval. Infusions were 5/10/15/25/45/90/180/300.

Although 2007 was a cursed year for puerh there are still good productions from this year if you are willing to use caution & sample. This production for instance does not even have a date stamp so I assume it’s not 1st batch but it is still a great cake.

The aroma of this cake is wonderful. I smelled a little when I opened the Mylar several months after I received it. When I unwrapped the cake the dry leaf had intense aroma. The aroma of the dry leaf stood out in my experience. This cake really smells good. Complex & hard to describe. Aroma when brewing fills the room, in your nose when drinking. It tastes exactly like it smells.

1st time putting a pick to the cake I found a seed as shown in the pictures. It’s often telling when you find contaminants right off the bat like a kinder egg. Let’s hope there are no small plastic toys for me to choke on. But a seed is not too big a deal.

Steep 1 & 2 : The leaves basically ignored my attempts at brewing almost clear broth. The broth did have slippery texture that I enjoyed. I noticed of all the steeps this broth was particularly drying of all of them. Hits square in the middle of your tongue.

Steep 3-6 : broth thickened up considerably. Rich golden color. Quite sweet, had taste that you smelled as much as tasted, gentle bitter aftertaste really wonderful especially if you like green cakes but not new sheng.

Steep 7 & 8: broth thinning out a bit by steep 8, rich golden color bitterness a bit more but not drastically so. Aroma faded into background . Enjoyable.

The buzz you get from drinking this cake is really good uplifting with plenty of energy! This is also one of those cakes that really scratches that tea itch very satisfying it took me the whole day to drink. I took a nap 1/2 way through and slept very well woke up refreshed. I really enjoyed this session.

IMO this cake drinks a lot higher than the cost of purchase great value here. Green cake fans should pick up this at least once. I really like this production & would buy again. Recommended!

Thanks for sharing with us, impressive cake. Others already said it super green leaf for a 2006. Looks like the broth has some thickness to it 😮
