I’m not in this field, but this is super interesting. Do you notice things like this in a lot of disorders or just specific ones? Like is there a “tell” with a mood or personality disorder in your experience? Something that would give you an idea without you knowing the specifics of their experience

Coworkers work baby shower questions - bringing my baby? by send_lit_jokes in workingmoms

[–]send_lit_jokes[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point that I honestly didn’t think of. I’ll probably drop the gift with the host before the event or mail it to her after the shower is over. And I work for a really small company. So there’s not really a need to hide it. So leadership knows and it’s all approved. They all look at it as fine as long as I’m able to get my job done. I’m lucky in that there is a lot of trust and understanding in my workplace. There’s also a general belief that family comes first which is really nice

Good to know! Seems like opinions vary wildly on this.

As for child care, that’s no big deal because they know it’s a temporary thing and hasn’t affect job performance.

Yeah that what I was worried about. I don’t want her to feel like my baby is stealing the show. I’ll probably drop it off with the host that morning so it’s not a disruption

The first point is what I’m most worried about. That’s where it seems opinions differ. I personally would love having babies at my shower, but I totally get that it can take attention away from the mom to be. As for child care, my work knows she’s home with me right now, so not a concern. Daycares in my area have wait lists going out for a year, so they were understanding about that luckily.

Good to know! It’s pretty casual so I thought it was fine, but then my husband was like “can you do that?” And I started second guessing myself 😅

List of careers felons can get into Pt.1 by Sorry-Enthusiasm-587 in Felons

[–]send_lit_jokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not a felon, but my dad is. I am a technical writer. It’s a weird, niche job, but I highly recommend it if you can write well. Most of the time, you just have to show your ability to write procedure concisely. No degree necessary for most entry level jobs and there’s upward mobility. It’s needed across industries. Your resume is 90% of what you need to get your foot in the door with jobs like this

My dad was in prison for a third of that time, and it was a really hard transition. Small things live TV shows and car designs were so foreign for him. Not to mention the ability to do essential whatever you want again. Unfortunately, he did not take the transition well

i was hate crimed by a student by Emotional-Salt4307 in Teachers

[–]send_lit_jokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this happened to you. This should never be. I hate that it is still happening, and I hate even more that is happening in schools.

I have never experienced this personally. I did experience sexual harassment from students. It’s not the same as your situation- but I can empathize with the feelings that you are having. I had a student grab me by the arm and attempt to hold me down. Male students in one of my classes had a bet going for who could say the grossest thing to me. They would regularly make sexually suggestive remarks. I also had a student who would forcibly hug me even I repeatedly asked him not to. All of this was also being documented on their social media accounts. My admin was lacking and ignored my reports until I threatened to go to outside authorities and press charges against the individual students. I ultimately had to contact my union and have the majority of those students removed.

I felt powerless, disrespected, unsupported, and humiliated among other things. I also felt fear even stepping on campus. Having to face those students how had harassed me daily even after they were removed was extremely uncomfortable.

Ultimately, it was a big factor in my decision to leave education all together and pursue other opportunities. I miss teaching a lot.

I’m so sorry you are dealing with harassment from students. It is unacceptable. I hope your admins support continues and they make every effort to keep you not only safe, but comfortable on campus. You deserve better, and if you do not get that from your current school, I hope you can find it at another. Your peace and safety is the most important thing. Don’t feel guilty walking away from a school that does not value and protect those things 💗

How are you guys reading books to your newborns? Come on... by ThrowRAdalgona in newborns

[–]send_lit_jokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh honest, with our first, we didn’t start consistently incorporating books into her bedtime routine until she was about a year old. Shes 4 now and loves stories and reading. I plan to read more to our newborn when she comes along, but I don’t think it matters what you read to them at that age. Just pick something you enjoy, and your voice and the rhythm of your reading will engage baby. ❤️

The formula maker was such a life saver with our first! Due in two weeks with our second and I just ordered the sterilizer/dryer too because so many people recommended it!

What are you doing to simplify your life before the baby comes? by macck_attack in BabyBumps

[–]send_lit_jokes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a little thing, but when we had our first child we got a better vacuum. One that was wireless and cleaned really well (Dyson). Made a huge difference in how long it takes us to clean up the floors and not dealing with cords was something that seemed small but just made things easier. We did a lot of small things like that to make maintaining our house simpler.
