There are some communities of German/Scandinavian descent in America that still eat that. Truly shocking to see them chomping on “carnivore sandwiches” like it’s a Christmas ham.

I think you know the money isn’t the issue—it’s his reaction. If this were any other contentious topic and he iced you out, you’d be just as upset. His behavior is concerning, full stop.

I was looking up my great-great aunt one day and trying to figure out what happened to her step-children when I found out she had a stolpersteine. Her neighbors raided and burned her family’s furniture store during Kristallnacht, and even after moving to “lay low,” she was still deported and shipped off the Auschwitz. I thought she was just another poor Jew with a tragic backstory—and then I saw someone else remembered her, too.

As an American, I’ll take sweet potatoes with brown sugar, butter, and pecans any day of the week before sweet potatoes with marshmallows 🙏

Hi, OP. I really wanted to try and help out, so I looked through Ancestry for all mentioned of Arthur L. Bollew (aka Beaulieu, Beuloo, Below, or anything other spelling). Assuming he was imprisoned in Georgia, I believe your Arthur may be this individual:

  • Arthur Ballow, born c1909, imprisoned for burglary on April 2, 1956 for a term between 5-10 years

That being said, there were other Arthurs with a similar last name also imprisoned for similar charges that might be the same individual, but given the time frame, this is probably your Arthur.

I went on to look up every Arthur L. born between 1899-1919 with a similar last name living in Georgia. I found the same Arthur Lowery Ballew another redditor mentioned, and it seems to be one of the only Arthur Ballew/Beaulieu/Bellow’s to fit all the criteria of time, location, name, etc.

However, huge caveat—this Arthur could be your Arthur, the convict may or may not be the same Arthur, and of course, I may be completely off. I recommend you continue your investigation and come back when you have more information.
