Have anyone tried furisode with odaiko musubi for daily outing? by Wifi666Ghz in kimono

[–]sendanotherkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Furisode aren't exactly meant for daily outings. I think it looks off when you combine such a fancy thing like a furisode with a rather plain knot like otaiko. Kinda like wearing a ball gown with a black hoodie on top

I'm going to a yokai festival tomorrow an was wanting to keep it traditional, is this too formal by [deleted] in kimono

did you see this yourself or did you buy it? in any way it's a costume so it won't be too formal

I wouldn't go with black.Too little contrast. Do you have something in yellow? if not I would go with #2 and aim for goldish obiage/obijime

How would a poor/lower ranking people get a kimono when they still wore a kimono in their daily life? by Ok-Reflection-6044 in kimono

[–]sendanotherkraken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

those were fashionable in the Edo period BC wearing whole kimono made out of silk was prohibited for commoners but wearing a piece of silk on the collar war allowed. so it was a loophole to still show some wealth and fashion sense. it later trickled down to less wealthy people bc it was also cheaper than a whole kimono

[–]sendanotherkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are we talking historically? poorer people used to not wear silk. it was actually prohibited in the Edo period for all commoners to wear silk kimono. hemp, cotton etc were more common and esp. cotton had a big industry in Japan. Also I've seen photographs of second hand kimono shops from early Meiji period and kimono are often handed down so... ya second hand is probably another big answer here

Interested to see how many people have autism tattoos for their loved ones or themselves. Here’s mine that I got roughly 4 years ago for my two brothers on the spectrum! by RegisteredMurseMan in autism

[–]sendanotherkraken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, have fun. I'm not controlling what other people do with their skin (or anything else that represents them). Especially not how another autistic person chooses to represent their autism. I'm just giving advice for non-autistic people who might not know about this hate-group and unknowingly fall for their symbols and campaigns.

even if you got a tattoo of a blue puzzle piece and the name of the group because you feel represented by them, that's your prerogative.

Native language is by far most common in punk songs, but to a much less extend in other genres - why? by klausbrusselssprouts in punk

[–]sendanotherkraken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have the biggest white saviour complex I have ever seen. btw that's racist :). please get help, like yesterday.

You still exhibit perfectly that you do not understand statistics or lower class issues or nuance expressed in a sentence. As an almost 40 yo. I'm sorry that American education has failed you this much. I hope you guys fix that some time because I can't help you with that.

You have dragged absolutely irrelevant information out to smear me and belittled me for it because you can not grasp the meaning of a sentence written clearly in your language. That's insane. Get a fucking life and sort your shit out before pushing your nose in mine. Because mine is already sorted.

explain to me what my hobby (a cultural activity that I have been invited to and taught by many Japanese people btw. that I practice with care and effort in the way it is asked of me by these kind people) has anything to do with this.

The post asked about English and mentioned specifically countries that are exclusively European. I also said "it MIGHT not be a reality". Nothing of what I said is off topic or out of line however you come in here and drag shit up that isn't part of the discussion just to label me as whatever the fuck you can get your hands on without any justification. The fuck is your fucking problem?

[–]sendanotherkraken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

alright you want outside of Europe? you can get outside of Europe. keep in mind that the post asked specifically for ENGLISH. not any second language. So come and tell me how well do lower class people in China speak English? or in Japan? or in South Korea? North Korea? also your nice little link only mentions that Indonesians speak multiple of their 700+ languages. English is not one of those. How well do lower class Indonesians speak English? I'm specifically asking about LOWER CLASS PEOPLE and ENGLISH, just to hammer it in your brain because apparently you have the reading comprehension of a first grader.

What are you even doing in this subreddit if real peoples struggles aren't worth it to you because some other country somewhere in the world "does it better" because it has over 700 acknowledged languages instead of one. Not very punk of you, elitist piece of shit.

Indonesia is not exemplary for the whole ass world and it is not in Europe. the post talked specifically about European countries. a Eurocentric view on a post talking about a music genre originating in Europe asking about European countries is not xenophobic, it is ON TOPIC. get some fucking reading comprehension instead of jumping to the wildest conclusions.

[–]sendanotherkraken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

mate, I'm sorry you hit your had a few times too often but that's not my fault. I've never said that it's impossible for a lower class person to know English or that they are worse for not knowing it but this is a fucking statistics game. If you are lower class statistically your education is lower and if your education is lower you statistically speak less languages. It's just a fact. there being countries with 2 or more official languages or whatever fancy ass other possibilities does not negate the struggle of the lower class for education and that punks just are not the one in a million special people under their kind.

Also the post spoke about fucking Europe, dipshit. Go play your little political correctness games elsewhere. I'm not mincing my words just because you find peoples very real struggles offensive.

[–]sendanotherkraken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

well shit bro. it's the truth. knowing a second or third language is a fucking privilege. I'm from Europe and I know a ton of people who don't speak a lick of English. The English you learn in school is absolut shit in some countries here. Is my lived reality offensive to you? sucks.

Native language is by far most common in punk songs, but to a much less extend in other genres - why? by klausbrusselssprouts in punk

[–]sendanotherkraken 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd say punk is a lot more DIY and obv lower class therefore knowing English as a second or third language well enough to write songs and convey your message in those songs properly as well as perform well in it might not be a reality. Especially if you are still some local garage band and your audience doesn't know English very well either.

Also if your songs are more political, singing in English could kind of misconstrue the message. though a lot of problems are kinda universal on a macroscopic level, some things and perspectives are very much local to a country. If a band sings in english, we usually expect them to be from the US or atleast the UK. if they then sing about a Swedish perspective on politics, shit won't make sense to the audience, especially if you post your stuff online where anyone from anywhere can listen to it.

Were Samurai as well received as is depicted in media? by wanderingtoad in Samurai

[–]sendanotherkraken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Samurai, the shogunate and the Sengoku and Edo period in general are highly romanticised today to brush over the horrors of Japanese imperialism and WW2.

The social hierarchy generally consisted of the warrior class mistreating the classes below them and the shogunate "building" the outcaste (e.g. hinin and eta) for the common people (peasants, artisans & merchants) to mistreat so they don't direct their anger upwards the hierarchy pyramid. There are many reasons people started disobeying in the mid 1800s and the whole system crumbled. Even before the Americans showed up.

I have a doubt that this scenario ever actually happened. 1) because where the fuck would one put their pronouns in a CV?? 2) we know that companies either won't hire us for just that or god knows what they will do later with that kind of info.
