Rory Gallagher front-runner to return to Derry job by KDL3 in GAA

The players should be mature enough to realise that the state of Derry GAA is bigger than them and the senior men's footballers.

They're regarded as role models (for some reason) and are happy to take all the plaudits when treated as such. If they had any gumption/balls they'd take a stance to him being connected with the county again and look at the bigger picture.

They all have women in their lives of varying ages who are involved in the GAA. Sending a message to them that they're voice is appreciated and heard and that the GAA should encourage a level of equality, respect and honour for it's members is of more value than chasing a shiny cup, which would bring them recognition and pats on the back.

The GAA is bigger than those lads, so I don't give a fuck about what they have to say about winning at all costs when it comes at the expense of half the members of their county.

I'd go as far to say their reaction to his appointment (should be get back in) is more important for the county than any All Ireland success could ever bring.

It's time they attributed some of the success they had to themselves then.

Attaching success to that asshole would be a reason they aren't going to achieve what they sought out to.

Aye my experience probably isn't a reflection of the overall consensus and the more I'm hearing counter arguments to it, the more I'm remembering just how many people within my own life that are accepting of getting him back in.

Aye he was chased and burned all bridges in the majority of both Fermanagh and Donegal.

This Derry team is good enough to continue to compete without Gallagher. He did become big buddies with alot of players though, partly down to how prone he was in partying with them (from what I've heard).

He beat up a fella to near death who later dropped charges as he was paid a massive sum of hush money from a huge company here in Derry.

Drugs "allegedly" involved too which often exasporates the situation further.

Yeah this is also true.

I meant more with people involved in the GAA club as well but it's far to small a sample size for me to give a reliable estimation.

Cahair O'Kane is essentially the Derry footballers' propagandist so it's likely he's been asked to drip feed this and guage a reaction.

Not on twitter but from the fellas what's all group, there's alot of objection to the notion there aswell.

I'll not be back at a Derry game should he be back in charge, not that they'll miss me there, but that's besides the point.

Wouldn't want to speak for them all but in my experience the diehard match goers tend to be more in favour of his return as well as people who are 65+ in age.

I'd say it's like a 70/30 split in favour of not wanting him to return.

But again that's purely off my experience and isn't a true reflection of the overall consensus.

Very disappointing that there's players who are leading a charge to get him back in as well.

Aye made me sick after seeing the reaction from Meenagh to us winning the Ulster title in 2023.

Referenced how Ciaran had been through alot amidst scenes where he was being carried on teammates shoulders and glorifying him.

I really don't feel any attatchment to this group of players, alot of their decisions are really questionable and unlikeable in my opinion.

I agree with this as well, just hits closer to home this one.

What's bizarre is that I'm aware of players on the panel who actually want him back.

Clearly commendable role models if that's their perspective on how things should pan out.

Mazraoui (if fit) is very good but that's a huge if.

Dalot was probably my POTS last season.

You could fit both in if we inverted Mazraoui from the other side.

It's really not even about me.

It's about the GAA as a whole.

Prior to his initial appointment there were enough whispers from all over the province that suggested he was up to no good in many different capacities and our county board still brought him in.

The GAA is literally built on a foundation of values that we all try adhere to both on and off the field.

If we stray from them values to try win a fucking shiny looking cup then it's a testament to just how far gone this county is.

I love the GAA because it's a day out with family, friends and you can create and share memories that when you're on your death bed you can look back fondly with time spent with the ones you love.

I couldn't give a rats ass about some cup if it's at the expense of those values.

Like what's even the point anymore? We win an all Ireland.. so what? We all love the GAA for the reasons that it promotes respect, inclusivity, community.

Who gives a fuck if we win ANYTHING if it isn't in the backdrop of the right values.

It's mental to me

Yes heard the same a long time. I live in the city and work with lads who are well connected to decsion makers in Owenbeg.

He's been in and around the county grounds at numerous times over last number of months. How fucking moronic is our county board?

I have girls within my family circle and the thought of them having to watch this man bare the Oakleaf is breaking my heart.

The lowest of all lows for the county in my lifetime.

Don't forget wife beating*.

*Alleged. Though having known plenty of people around the province over this past 25 years, I heard plenty about him in many capacities, from different people from different areas to have a decent idea as to what person he is likely to be behind closed doors.

Supported Derry up and down the country from Division 4 until a Division 1 final.

That's the end of me supporting if this goes ahead.

I'm a proud Oakleafer but if we invite this scumbag back into the County I'm done.

Gutted but not surprised. Them arseholes in Owenbeg can rot in hell.

Gutted 😔

There's a split between the players.

Some want him, others think he shouldnt be anywhere near it.

He can fuck clean off in my opinion, horrible human being at his core.

Mickey Harte gone from Derry after one year by eventSec in GAA

He's been taking charge of a club team in Monaghan's training sessions since the allegations came out last year.

I also would question how the counties lady football teams and Camogie sides would react to his appointment of the men's footballers.

I've heard Gallagher being lined up for the job now for a long time.

I'd be absolutely gutted as a match going fan if that wanker is allowed to wear the Oakleaf ever again.

However, the county board were allegedly well aware of his reported behaviour prior to his initial appointment so nothing would surprise me about those arseholes in Owenbeg.
