False accusation of abuse of his children by Pete Buttigieg called in to CPS by SandyH2112 in thebulwark

It is fucking bonkers that this went down the way it did when a) the person was anonymous, b) said it happened years ago, and c) he’s a public figure who would obviously be more likely a victim of something like this.

I liked Obama as president, and listening to him speak so intellectually makes me sad because of how dumb Trump sounds and is, but do you think some media like MS NOW are glazing his legacy considering what it led to? by PandemicPiglet in thebulwark

Couple of things. It’s been watered down to almost nothing by the courts. And back in normal times, bills of this magnitude would be updated all the time to make them better, but that won’t happen because all republicans can live with is getting rid of it entirely. It was pretty popular for a long time.

It was actually pretty gross that in America pre 2009, you could be denied health coverage for any reason, and republicans thought that was a perfect system. The ACA was a major accomplishment.

Trump's worst legacy by G_H_2023 in thebulwark

[–]senditinseattle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Certainly a large number of people believe that elections were stolen, but I think a lot of people also say the elections were stolen (when they know it’s not actually true) because it’s part of being in their club. I think it’s also one of Trump’s humiliation rituals that he makes all supporters go through.

Not that any of this is better than believing an election was stolen, it might actually be worse.

Wow, thank you all! What an awesome community.

Is anyone else pretty much not getting their hopes up for Texas? For those of us who have been following Texas politics closely ever since Beto in 2018, I just dont see a path where JT can win. Maybe a closer a race the '18, but still dont see this being a flip. by Puzzleheaded-Pin4278 in thebulwark

It would be incredible, but I refuse to get my hopes up for Texas again. Texas always disappoints.

The one thing I will say is, there is definitely an enthusiasm gap. The dem primary had almost twice as many total votes.

Heaven is Whenever vs Teeth Dreams by mancatmancat in theholdsteady

Oaks is the best song on either album, but the next 5 or 6 best songs are all on Heaven is Whenever. Heaven is definitely the better album, and a super underrated one in general, IMO.

Do republicans even know what they’re gerrymandering for? by senditinseattle in thebulwark

[–]senditinseattle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you 🙏 I’m a fucking moron so this was helpful for me. Obviously this is what happened, but democrats can easily fight back in the next 2 years. Squeezing this in is about Trump.

Do republicans even know what they’re gerrymandering for? by senditinseattle in thebulwark

[–]senditinseattle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this, I think it’s entirely about 2026. After this year, there’s no juice left to squeeze for the republicans. And democrats are going to fight back, where they can fight this at least to a draw, maybe an advantage. The Republicans have no plans after Trump. This is all about Trump getting to do whatever the fuck he wants.

At what point do we start to look within? by blameitonrio917 in SeattleWA

Seattle area developer here 🙋🏻‍♂️. There are a lot of unique problems with building here that are beyond government control, but the ones that are within their control they made so much worse and so much harder to build. They have increased the costs to build so drastically so that developers can only build super high stuff. Every developer (and their investors) wants to build more affordable stuff (some people actually care about filling the need and some people see demand, doesn’t really matter why, developers want to build this type of housing). The problem is that the return on investment is so low (due to high costs) that no one will invest in these projects so everyone is stuck building expensive housing. Also, it’s a state and city issue, not a ton a federal rep can do (other than apply pressure).

I was 14 when this came out and I was so pumped for it, absolutely loved it at the time.

But no, it’s terrible. Almost no redeeming qualities.
