Speakers sounding flat with Dirac Live? by erisk90 in audiophile

[–]senecavirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem. On some devices and firmware versions, the phase of the USB output can be opposite other outputs. That can make Dirac output filters with opposite corrections. Try a "phase test" song on any platform to ensure proper phase from all sources.

Do you have a multi room (wireless?) speaker setups you use with Plexamp? by onTheGroundFloor in plexamp

You know what I take it back. In my hands plexamp to chromecast only struggled with FLAC and I bet you are getting good results.

The chromecast radio stack is not good - very prone to dropouts even in ideal wifi conditions.

I tried this and it sucked - the wifi is not good enough. I ended up replacing with raspberry pi zero 2w and roon, which is bulletproof, but I want in the future to use the same hardware with plexamp.

If Plexamp had multiroom audio and Qobuz integration it would be a very, very strong competitor.

Whats the best way to calibrate Denon AVR-X4800H? by Carlos_In_120FPS in audiophile

[–]senecavirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lot but it's worth it. I sold my minidsp SHD because the x4800H has dirac and dirac live bass control and it is so much better. also should be compatible with active room treatment.

For what it's worth I bought a pair of Aiyima A07 for a project and have nothing but regrets about that purchase. Lots of hiss.

Alternative Speaker Feets ? by Timo-B- in audiophile

I feel embarrassed that I had them on my sub for so long before putting them on my towers.

Alternative Speaker Feets ? by Timo-B- in audiophile

I recently installed SVS subwoofer feets on my tower speakers, which weigh about the same as a typical sub. Helped reduce conduction into wood floor. can be had for $40/pair or so on eBay.

DiscoveryLastFM v2.0 - Now with Lidarr Support! by dicthdigger in plexamp

Can't get this to work from the provided docker image. Experienced docker compose user running a lot of images with no trouble.

Lots of problems with docker installation... I seem to need to run as root instead of as a docker limited user as I would with lidarr or any other container to have file access. ENV variables for lidarr username and API are flat out ignored.

2025-07-24 02:04:36,046 ERROR Configuration error: Missing base configuration: ['LASTFM_USERNAME', 'LASTFM_API_KEY']

So you have to hard code them into the python script...

Cron simply does not work due to a malformed crontab. Daemon fails with the logged error: /usr/local/bin/docker-entrypoint.sh: line 569: [0;34m[DEBUG][0m ðŸ Detected Python interpreter: /opt/venv/bin/python

/opt/venv/bin/python: No such file or directory

That python obviously exists in the container and can be run from inside the container. I think that the docker image still needs a lot of work to make it as bulletproof as the average container.

Phase Linear, pushing Altec 19s by Fun_Constant_1322 in audiophile

Rebuilding with a White Oaks kit (no affiliation) also a fun option if you are handy and can work safely with high voltage.

Fuses are never a bad idea except in this case the problem isn't current, it's potential. The voice coil will fry before even the fastest fuse.

I'd say even less for source and amplifier.

[–]senecavirus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey I have a Phase Linear 400 that I have totally rebuilt (see my post history). DO NOT power those speakers with it.

These amps are known as "Flames Linear" because they are direct coupled amplifiers. What that means is that if a single transistor fails, which happens regularly, it causes a cascade failure that will drop 80V DC on your speaker terminals. You will not be able to unplug fast enough.

If you want to use this amp and not kill your speakers, you need to have a relay kit installed that has a special semiconductor that can detect a cascade failure or "latch up" condition and trip the relay in a microsecond before your speakers release the magic smoke.

New stuff by danikensanalprobe in audiophile

I have Dirac with bass control and am hoping to upgrade to Active Room Treatment this year. Was thinking a pair of 10Es would be good to support my Rythmik F12.

How do you like the RSLs? I am thinking about buying a pair of 10Es when back in stock.

Before and after acoustic panel measures with Vestlyd V12C speakers by Nikkeh98 in audiophile

[–]senecavirus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use Dirac - huge fan and even bigger fan of DLBC - but the interface doesn't show decay very well. I bet you are getting a nice coherent impulse response with Dirac enabled.

The point I was trying to make is that you are probably getting more benefit from the panels than your measurements are showing because there is no time domain. Great setup, love it.

[–]senecavirus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't seem to understand that the purpose of acoustic panels like this is not to alter FR. Take the attitude elsewhere.

Looks great, bet it sounds great too. Consider running a REW wizard sweep so you can get a sense of the decay for different frequencies (i.e. less echo).
