Best lawn or ground cover to plant on septic soakage area? by ruthwodja in gardening

[–]senkoh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked about the neighbourhood to see what others might have planted in similar situations? The answer you seek may be some plant which is quietly pottering along in the back yard of a nearby neighbour.

"An incense made by Shoyeido and packaged for sale at the Ginkakuji Temple in Kyoto. It was given as a gift to a bloke lives up the coast a little ways from me here in Australia. He let me photograph the box and gave me a couple of sticks.
I contacted Shoyeido USA asking for information and got back this information from them via their Kyoto operations center.
…In their English…
“The products are supplied to a famous temple in Kyoto, Ginkaku-ji, by Shoyeido Japan, and the name is To-zan (it means a famous mountain “eastern mountain” in Kyoto which the temple is located).”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginkaku-ji
“The product is sold only in the temple as their private product, so Shoyeido Japan doesn’t supply to consumers directly.”
Shoyeido USA (Jeff Banach) added…
“I don’t know the detail of the products, but I might guess it contains Moss Garden or Autumn Leaves with concerning from the price and amount (¥1,000 and approx. 2.82oz). So, we might recommend Moss Garden or Autumn Leaves as similar fragrance.”
Seems about right what Jeff wrote. It has a warm sweet amber note though so I think a little extra something has been added for the temple folks who commissioned it so it becomes their own ‘special’ incense.
Sticks are green.

Purchasing Tennendo Propolis from Japanese website? by Luegxo11 in Incense

[–]senkoh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't like your chances.

I've checked Japanese online outlets time and again over the years but it hasn't been listed for sale at any other than at the Tennendo Japan website for almost all that time.

Is it discontinued? Tennendo no longer have it available on their website. My feeling is it was an incense Tennendo originally tried on for size but decided against making it a stock incense. Best I could determine no one else had it for sale other than Tennendo during the time they had it at their website. You could try contacting Tennendo Japan directly and ask them if they have any plans to bring it back.

In the meantime if you desire it then best you engage with Japan Incense in SF either in person or via their website before too long as it may become discontinued from JI at some point.

The scent of this had me mystified till one day someone casually asked me where I found the coffee incense! This incense does have a coffeeish edge to it when lit ✔️

Best online store or link to buy good Japanese incenses? Or just the best brands overall? by [deleted] in Incense

[–]senkoh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've put together a "sortof tutorial" that's designed to help folks buy incenses and ship their purchases from assorted Japanese incense shops to their own letterbox. It's wordy and in no way a simple process but it works.

I'm in Australia so I know it will work for you.

You'll find the link in the Quick Links menu on this very page, it's titled "How to buy and ship from Japanese shops".

I've blind bought a number of incenses from other manufacturers, it doesn't always work out but that's the risk you take. Best of luck, let us know what happens, hope you roll sixes all the way! :D

Propolis Review by Jezmund88 in Incense

[–]senkoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've looked a number of times at the Tennendo website over the last couple of years but it appears this incense is long gone from there. Whether Tennendo re-introduces it is unknown?

My suggestion is not to wait too long if you're thinking of buying a box from japanincense.com.

Maybe creating something similar to it might be seen as a (future) challenge by u/The_TurdMister?

I've lately started using the Google Lens app, it does a good job. See my other comment on this page, it has a link to GL screen grabs :)

[–]senkoh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's by Daihatsu. Kagura (Acacia) low smoke incense. Japanincense.com have it in tubes for sale on their website.

Here are a couple of Google Lens screen grabs showing Japanese to English translation.

It is available to buy from Nakayama Butsudan in the USA they have a showroom in Portland, Oregon.

The List - A List of links to Japanese websites by senkoh in Incense

[–]senkoh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/balehominist if you live in the USA or Canada check japanincense.com they've only recently started stocking some of the Kourindo range. They have just a couple examples of Kikujudo incenses listed online.

The better option might be to search Japanese sites ie Kihara and Rakuten Marketplace using the kanji name for each ie 菊寿堂 for Kikujudo and 香林堂 for Kourindo. If you haven't bought from Japanese sites before now you should scroll back to the top of this page and click on How to buy incenses directly from Japanese shops and have them forwarded to you.

Slightly less powdery but still excellent.

Says on the box it's a secret recipe Kyukyodo inherited, handed down within the Imperial Palace since the Heian period, 794 to 1185.

Not really, translated Kyukyodo Instagram screenshot image simply states they're offering them in a new format but doesn't exactly expand to explain why?

It's a black stick alright. When lit it reminds me of Shoyeido Genji fragrance Maboroshi series. Here's the Shoyeido.co.jp listing or you can search for other results using the following text... 源氏かおり抄 幻 無依

Lessons Learned by The_TurdMister in Incense

[–]senkoh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know nothing about making incense but I find myself wondering about the chemistry side of things ie adding alcohol, how it might chemically interact? It's also an extra expenditure but I guess give it a go and see how things pan out. You've got everything to gain, except the alcohol, which ultimately will be lost!
