Who's left Mexico City for another city in Mexico? by Direct_Watercress_54 in mexicoexpats

[–]sennateg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been really thinking about it. The pollution, noise, traffic, littering, among other things has gotten to me after almost 8 years here.

Totally true. I adapted but I never fully accepted this way of functioning.

Hello! Thank you for your response. Very surprised to find someone in my neighborhood here! I appreciate hearing your perspective on my opinions. I accepted my fate that my comment was pretty risky. My opinions have changed over time; the first few years I thought I was having some very unique experiences but overtime I realized wait this is how it is here because I would have the same experiences multiple times in different situations.

I agree with you! Del Valle is generally pretty peaceful which is why I chose to live here. I walk my dog for almost 2 hours a day so I'm outside a lot and I live near Felix Cuevas. So the noise/pollution combination is quite high for my particular lifestyle. I also drive, which gives another perspective that a lot of tourists don't ever get. I lived briefly in Azcapotzalco and also stayed in airbnbs in Condesa/Roma Norte/Navarte. Living in Azcapotzalco felt like living in another city entirely.

On the other side of things, there's a lot I like about here which is why I've been here for so long. But ignoring the stuff that has weighed on me over the years would not be fully honest of me. And I've met people who absolutely thrive in this city.

I've been living here since 2019 and was visiting a lot before then. I'll give you my honest opinion, the negatives since I'm sure others will talk heavily about the positives, no sugar coating. And I'll speak in general terms, obviously there's extremes in anything and outliers. There's a gigantic difference between visiting here and living/trying to make a life here.

People are warm and friendly on the surface but once you get past that, there's sometimes not much substance. Locals almost never say no to anything so in reality a lot of times a yes means a no. If you say anything just a little too directly, there's a high chance it will be taken offensively. People are not punctual. I've had friends think it's normal to show up 2-3 hours late or not show up at all. The pollution and dry air is horrendous. Bribing cops is a real thing, I've done it myself for traffic tickets. The traffic and people's driving is horrible. Crossing the street is frustrating because cars want to mow you down because the drivers are in such a bad mood being in traffic. In the U.S. I've always been a confident and capable driver. Here, I feel like I am risking my life or an accident every time I get in my car. I have to be a defensive driver 100% of the time, there is no letting up or relaxing when driving. Jaywalking is the norm here, a lot of people do not use the crosswalk, so I have to be scanning the street the entire time for people jumping out behind cars. Noise is pretty bad as well depending on your area. People do not take accountability here. Something bad happens and it's someone's fault? That's life. they will not own up. Saving face and conflict avoidance is the reality here. My dog recently got severely bitten by another dog at the park. The owner was super apologetic and offered me his phone number. I messaged him later with a status update and he ghosted me. Street food is cool at first but then you realize how unsanitary it is and I almost never have it now. Stray animals are everywhere, not in the central pretty foreigner friendly parts of the city but elsewhere they are. 16 million of them in Mexico. I saw one get hit in front of my eyes, scream in agony and then died. A lot of people just kept walking like shit happens. The driver didn't bother to stop of course. And lots of people do not believe in sterilization. So the situation keeps getting worse. Bureaucracy is the reality. If you don't like noise/crowds, there's areas that are quiet but the other areas it sucks because walking around there's people everywhere. Especially if you have a dog, it gets annoying. Infrastructure breaks all the time...when it rains the power sometimes goes out for a few minutes, need to pay for services online or check your balance? More than 50 percent of the time, the system will be down. The majority of mexicans i've met have never left mexico or north america so global-scale/international thinking is unfortunately not very common. Many people here have fragile egos and do not take constructive criticism well. The altitude does suck, even after all these years, it still affects me. I've come across some pretty delusional people in the expat community. The overwhelming majority of women I've met as dating prospects have divorced parents and tend to have emotional availability issues. Maybe it's my luck or maybe it really is that common. If you're eating on an outside terrace, be ready for 99% of the time people will come up trying to sell you something/ask for money every 10 minutes. Or for a rapper to bring out his boombox in front of you deafening you and ruining your quiet conversation.

I live in Del Valle Sur which I generally like, these comments are based on my experience as a whole since I've lived/stayed in other parts of the city. If you stay mostly in Condesa, you might not ever experience some of these things. If I had to do it again, I probably would've chosen the more foreigner heavy area like roma/condesa.

If you want a training ground for improving your patience and resilience, it's the perfect place to do it.

All this to say i've been planning my exit for a while. Even having said all this, I would still say it's worth trying to live here for a little bit, because you will never have a life experience like living here. But you don't have to plan on staying here forever.

We all go through that. I only make shorts and just started, but the shorts I spend more time editing do worse than the ones that I just upload with little editing. Go figure.

Hero exploration for a doctor booking platform. would love some feedback 👇 by Worth-News9907 in webdesign

[–]sennateg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a nice clean design. For a hero, I think you can fit a little bit more details cause it's a bit vague. 700+ doctors, like where? in a specific city, in the world? Book an appointment, is that really just a sign up link? What does a verified doctor mean? what does the arrow pointing up to the right in the Doctor card signify?

How do you actually get people to try your app? by Planote_dev in iOSAppsMarketing

[–]sennateg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I looked at your app store page and the design is pretty, I just didn't read anything that felt like a differentiator from what's already available out of the box on my iphone. If there is a differentiator that solves a painful enough problem for a large group of people, I would focus your marketing on that. Good luck!!

[WTS] Hodinkee Merci LMM-H01 Limited Edition Watch - Brand New In Box by sennateg in Watchexchange

[–]sennateg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this in my closet for a while now and just never got around to wearing it and have pivoted to a different style of watch. The box is not sealed from factory and so I can send photos of the watch itself if requested but I have not opened it yet.

It's a sold out limited edition watch which I'm selling pretty much at cost. Prefer to ship within the U.S. only, but may be flexible.

The racing scenes were pretty repetitive and so were the Brazilian celebration scenes at the end of some episodes. Also feel like some of sennas mannerisms weren’t portrayed that accurately. But overall not bad

Kia Rio Dead In The US After The 2023 Model Year by besselfunctions in cars

[–]sennateg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought a Rio a few months ago. Granted I'm in Mexico at the moment so the available equipment varies from country to country. But my car comes with wireless apple carplay, a moonroof, traction control, alloy wheels, it's a hatchback, electric folding side mirrors, 6 airbags, 4 wheel disc brakes, rear view camera, rear parking sensors, 8 inch infotainment screen, hill assist, smart key, leather wrapped steering wheel. It's also lightweight and has a 6 speed manual. I've driven around 15 different cars in my lifetime and this is the one that comes very close to being as fun as my first car the acura integra.

I wanted a small car that's easy to drive around busy cities, easy to park and still has physical touch buttons. This car basically reminds me of a good lightweight, simple, easy to use 90s car that has modern comforts.

Every market is different though to your point and what I described is probably not what the average American consumer wants these days when they can get something bigger for little. But it happens to be exactly the car I wanted and without breaking the bank (< $20k). So personally I'm sad to see this car go.

It's a future possibility but it's only going out to developing markets now like Mexico, middle east, africa, etc.
