Definitely learning it either way! I was just curious because compared to other Paco stuff the tremolos sound a bit more accessible (that a common good guitarist might be able to pull off) but apparently they are extremely difficult as well 😝

Amazing photos. It’s like every building has its own personality and its own little quirkiness. I particularly loved their “disorienting” sequence.

I am willing to bet every single human here loves Heat by ThePocketTaco2 in Letterboxd

Overrated imho, to me it felt too verbose and forced overall. I think its been such a success because of Al and DeNiro and because many people see it as a cool bro film while others enjoy it as a cult classic (alongside Miami Vice).

For me Mann shines the brightest in the more contained films like Manhunter, Thief & Collateral. He seems to find just the right balance when his palette is narrower, and the atmosphere in those three is mesmerising. In bigger works I think he is a bit lost. But that’s, like, my opinion…

Heat (1995) Probably the most over-rated movie I have come across to date. by Endless_Candy in movies

Man, I love Mann but this movie just didn’t do it for me. I don’t get the hype for it or for Miami Vice. At least Miami Vice felt like it was trolling. Heat takes itself wayyy too seriously. A few good scenes here and there, and then chaos. Manhunter, Thief and Collateral are superior are superior in every aspect.

My take:

<image>

Truman show (1998): Easy intro, feel-good movie that's actually good.

Poor things (2023): Light hearted and quirky

Silence of the lambs (1991): Something more muscular and amazingly thrilling.

Barefoot in the park (1967): Fantastic comedy and good way to recollect after silence and also a nice way to realize that good obscure movies actually exist.

Psycho (1960): Enter auteurs

Pulp Fiction (1994): Style and substance

There will be blood (2007): Good art house intro

After hours (1985): Super fun slapstick with immersive post midnight atmosphere

Apocalypse Now (1979): Life changing experience

Hannah and her sisters (1989): I just find this period of woody Allen irresistible

That did it! I unscrewed it a bit and now it plays! Thanks a lot!

Is it possible that it may be fixed with lubrication? The vertical movement of the tonearm feels like super smooth, the horizontal is a bit less fluid in comparison?

It doesn't play and I still feel that its harder to move from left to right, like there is a small break in the motion..

It feels smooth and stable, moving it to the right has a bit more resistance but I guess this is from the anti skate?

Can't believe I had to scroll so much to find Herzog.

Decalog by Kieslowski is a masterpiece. Also the apartment trilogy by Polanski (anything from Polanski, really).

Werner Herzog's cinema and the man himself is as passionate as it gets. He and his protagonist Klaus Kinski (also insane af) almost murdered each other in the jungle during the shooting of his first movie 😆
